CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

"Let me be honest. I'm over this," Chaz made a wide gesture with his arms, pointing at his surroundings, "weather. It's almost February and it's still freezing!"

Jason hummed, wholeheartedly agreeing with him. He as well was totally over the snow and the frosty weather. In the past two days, his crutches skidded over the ice three times, causing him to fall. And it fucking hurt. How was he supposed to get better when he slipped and fell every two seconds?

Chloe giggled and nudged Chaz' side. "You're just annoyed you've slipped on the ice twice today, and classes haven't even started yet."

It hasn't been said out loud yet, but Chloe and Chaz were a thing. An official thing. They have been permanently stuck to each other's bodies. Wherever Chaz was, Chloe was, and that the other way around too. They made out in the back of class, in Jason and Chaz' dorm room, the cafeteria... No place was safe. The PDA was real.

Jason took a sip of his coffee, his eyes travelling through the cafeteria. Maria was behind the cash register, supplying the students with all the liquids and breakfast they desired. The place was crowded, but that was nothing new. Summer sat in the corner with her friends, occasionally flickering her eyes past Jason. He ignored it. Ever since their last encounter she hadn't bothered him again and he was glad.

His mind wandered off to the things he'd been doing the past days. He has visited Bumper three times more since he had Alexia on the phone while she was wedding-dress shopping. He felt extremely bad he hadn't visited his other friends for such a long time and decided to visit more often, making up for all the lost time. Bumper had been thrilled, greeting Jason with a tight hug and a bigger bag of greens than usual.

Several girls had been in the picture too. Jason was back to screwing every girl he had a pinch of interest in. It didn't feel good, all he could think about was Alexia, but it was still a distraction from the hectic turn his life had taken. He knew that Chaz and Ryan were worried. They thought that Bumper had a bad influence on him and that is was concerning that he started playing around again, but Jason just ignored them. They didn't understand.

Their girlfriends were not out of reach, while Jason's girlfriend... well, she wasn't even his girlfriend yet. And she would never be unless he stopped her wedding.
How was he supposed to do that, stop a wedding?

At least one person had vowed to help him in any way he could. Teo had explained to Jason in detail how badly he wanted to get rid of Damian as an upcoming leader. Especially after Jason told him about the phone call he'd received in Dubai airport and the truth about how his 'accident' had went. Teo was furious.

"I can't believe he has the fucking nerve!" Teodoro spat, his eyes turning into a darker shade of green. They were wide and for a quick second he looked like he was going to kill someone.

Jason sighed. "Tell me about it. I'm trying –I'm really trying to come up with something Teo. You know how much I love your sister," he clenched his jaw and averted his eyes from Teo, "fuck, I adore her... But what do I do?"

Teo was still fuming. It took him over five minutes to finally calm down and think about what Jason had just said. Teo cleared his throat. "You could... I don't know... Let it go?"

"What? If I let it go, she'll get married to Damian!" Jason exclaimed in disbelief.

Teo nodded stiffly. "And believe me, I don't want her to, but you do realize we're talking about your life, right? He has the ability to kill you."

Jason felt chills run up his spine. "So you really think he's going to try to... kill me?"

"He's already tried. You can't risk your life."

Silence.

Could he or could he not? In the end, if he gave this up, if he gave Alexia up, what would happen? He'd go back to his old life. Chaz and Ryan, Summer, studying and Bumper. That was his life.

But it wasn't complete. Not without Alexia.

"I'm not letting her get married to him." Teo tried to protest, but Jason cut him off. "No, Teo, it's not happening. I love her more than you can imagine. Besides, do you really want her to get married to a douche bag like that? Shit! Imagine all the crap he'd put her through! I can't let this happen—I just can't. I'm sure you can't, too." He got up and started pacing (or hopping in his case) through the room.

They'd switched ideas afterwards. Jason knew nothing about 'the business' and whatever Damian was trying to do. Luckily for him Teo had it all calculated after they discussed the topic for an amount of time. The day after, Teo had come back with a gun, ordering Jason to take it with him at all times at all costs. He made sure Jason still knew how to use one, but he fortunately did. After all, how could he forget when he'd gotten lessons on how to use a gun, defend himself, untie himself when he would get tied up, etc.? The Valdez family verified Alexia was safe with Jason when they were still dating, that's for damn sure.

The things he did for that woman...

He took another sip of his coffee while he thought about this whole thing. He stops the wedding, he gets together with Alexia, hopefully Teo gets the spot as the new leader and everyone can move on.

Jason snickered softly. Yeah, as if that would happen without any complications.

Besides, he forgot to include the part where Damian was trying to kill him. He clearly wasn't going to stop once Jason succeeded in stopping the wedding, hell no. It would just give Damian more time and space to desperately and successfully assassinate the man who had taken his fiancée away from him.

He groaned. Christ, it was so much worse when he thought about it that way.

His thoughts were interrupted by the bell which obnoxiously rang through the entire cafeteria, just like it did every time someone walked in. Looking up, he immediately met Alexia's eyes.

Jason couldn't help but glance down at her entire posture when she greeted Maria with a hug and a kiss. Her jeans were too tight. He'd be ill if he didn't look at her curves, it was unavoidable. She's so sexy.

"Hey guys." She muttered as she walked over to them, seating herself in the chair in front of Jason. Chloe and Chaz vaguely said hi before they went back to groping each other in front of everyone. Jason rolled his eyes. "Hey."

"It's like they're glued to each other." She whispered, looking at Jason with a small grin. He hummed. "Yes. Honestly it's getting really fucking annoying."

She nodded, followed by a shrug. "At least they are getting sex."

Jason pulled up his eyebrows, a smirk forming on his lips. He knows that Alexia is an extremely horny and clingy person. They used to have sex several times a week, because when Alexia didn't get any action for a little while she'd turn into a total brat. Not that he minded of course, Jason was exactly the same.

"You're not?"

She shook her head, a sad look on her face. He couldn't help but laugh at that.

"I know you are though."

Ouch. Jason licked his lips awkwardly. "Well, yeah. It had been a long time and the woman I want to fuck is kind of unavailable."

Alexia groaned loudly and put her head on the table. "Jason I'm-I'm so frustrated! It's been a God damn month. No, fuck that, It's been years. Have I told you about the lame sex me and Damian have?"

He clenched his jaw. The thought of her moaning another guy's name caused him to ball his fists until they were white. "No."

"It's really lame! It's boring! All he does is play a little bit with my nipples and that's enough for him to be entirely aroused and then he just sticks his miniscule dick inside me and I swear –he comes in like, five seconds. And then I'm left to fake my orgasm, which I'm really good at because lately I've been doing that all the time. And the worst part is that he believes it. Every time Damian walks into my room thinking that I'm going to have sex with him I brush him off, and then, do you know what I do after that? I think about the fucking Maldives, because that was really hot. You made me come without even doing it on purpose. What are you?"

Jason laughed again, grabbing Alexia's shoulders. "Relax!"

"No!" She altercated, "You know damn well that you'd feel even worse than I am right now if you weren't having sex either. But you are. With who? With Tori, the woman you 'don't know'. I'm sure you've had sex with several girls while I'm at home studying and fingering myself."

"Well... Maybe..."

"Jason!" She cried out.

He just smiled smugly. "If you want to... You know I'd make you feel good whenever you'd like."

Alexia groaned again. "You can't say that!"

"Why not?"

"Because I'm weak right now and I might take you up on that offer."

Jason exhaled deeply. He really wished she'd take him up on that offer. He couldn't wait. "Like I said, whenever you'd like baby girl, we can do whatever you want, for as long as you want, whenever."

She narrowed her eyes at him and furrowed her eyebrows. "I hate you."

-

"Ryan, gas."

"What—why? I'm already going as fast as the speed limit."

"Ryan, gas!"

"No! Why do you want me to go faster?"

Jason just turned around in his seat, clearly seeing the black car.

The car had been following them since they left campus to quickly pay their parents a visit. Jason had had his eye on the car from the second it took the same turn as they did. It stayed close and copied every movement they made.

It was one of Damian's men. Jason was sure.

He felt jitters all through his body as he kept staring at the suspicious car. Angst crept into his head and he started panicking.

"Ryan! I'm telling you, go faster!" Jason roared, not looking away from the car. Ryan obediently pressed his foot against the accelerator harshly and the car shot forwards, causing Jason to nearly fall off his seat. He grabbed the prop attached to the roof and took deep breaths. He felt nauseous, he was angry and scared at the same time and he didn't know how to deal with it.

"Faster, faster!"

"Jason! There's ice everywhere, we'll get into an accident!" Ryan revolted, his voice rising. Jason shook his head. "I don't care!"

His heart beat rapidly as he lowered himself and grabbed his bag, swiftly unzipping it. Ryan peeked at him with a side-eye but couldn't do more than that since the car had passed speed limit and the icy ground made it challenging to keep the car steady. "What is going on?" He spat.

Jason ignored him, taking the gun out of his bag as he rummaged through his stuff to find the bullets. Ryan cussed. "Fuck! How did you get a gun—what the hell are you doing with a gun?"

The car swerved over the road and Jason's heart skipped a beat. He instantly stopped searching for the bullets and looked at Ryan sharply, who had his eyes back on the road, trying to steady the car again.

"Keep your eyes on the fucking road!" Jason exclaimed, putting the gun off it's safe.

He turned around in his seat again and glanced at the car. All he could see was a man in a suit and sunglasses. He wore gloves and he was the only person in the car.

The man made stern eye contact with Jason.

Jason knit his eyebrows together. "Shit. Faster Ryan, faster."

"Jason..."

"No! Faster!"

The car sped forwards. Jason clenched his jaw, the gun in his hands burning. He wasn't keen on using it but he would if he had no choice. He definitely would. The other cars on the road were a blur as Ryan drove faster and faster, trying not to kill anyone by avoiding anything that moved.

The black car, Damian's guy, sped after them. Even when Ryan's car couldn't go any faster and he was left to make several turns trying to shake the guy off.

"Take this turn!" Jason snapped, barking orders to Ryan. Ryan hesitated. "I need to slow down before I can take any turn!"

"Take it! Now!"

Ryan twisted the steering wheel firmly and the car spiralled for a short second before he hit the gas pedal brutally and it flew further. Both of them exhaled anxiously.

"Christ—Jason what i—"

Jason cut him off. "Faster! Don't slow down, he just took the same turn! Damn it!"

Damian's guy now had a phone plastered to his ear, passionately talking. One of his hands was still on the steering wheel as his car went slower and slower. Evidently not on purpose, because the guy threw his phone into the back and slammed his fist against the steering wheel. "Good, gas Ryan!" Jason yelled.

Ryan pressed the gas pedal harder.

"We're taking this next turn, stop the car the second you see the fountain! I'm going to open the door and run to the house, lock the door after me and stay inside the car until I come back, yeah?"

"How the fuck are you going to run?" Ryan snapped, his eyes still on the road and his foot on the gas pedal. His fists were white from clenching the steering wheel. Jason tried to keep all of his anger bottled up. "Shut the fuck up!"

Ryan ignored that. "You have God damn crutches! I don't know who is following us but, do you really think you can outrun him?"

Jason felt how his heart went ballistic against his chest as they neared the gigantic house. "This turn! Go faster!"

The car after them started getting smaller and smaller and Jason got the feeling he did have a chance of outrunning Damian's guy.

The second his gaze landed on the huge fountain, he pushed open the car door and Ryan abruptly hit the brakes, the car looping on the ice before it came to an abrupt halt. "Can't you wait until the car has stopped? For God's sake!"

Jason grabbed his crutches, hid the gun in between the waistband of his underwear and his skin, and hopped out of the car. "Lock the car!"

He didn't pay any attention to Ryan after that, skipping to the front door as fast as he could. He was lucky his crutches didn't slip on the ice.

The door opened before he could even knock, revealing a surprised Catalina. "Jase? What are you doing here? I heard loud noises so I—"

Jason pushed her out of the way and went inside, making his way over to the staircase in the middle of the hallway. "Jason? Jeez, what's going on?"

"Where's Damian?"

"Upstairs. Wait, why?"

He brushed her off as he walked up the stairs, throwing his crutches into the corner of the hallway with a loud thump. Walking with a cast wasn't without difficulties, but it was a hell of a lot easier, even though the pain was almost unbearable.

Fortunately, Damian had just walked out of his office, a confused look on his face. His lips curled into a vicious smile when he noticed Jason standing in front of him with a bitter scowl.

"Ah, Jason McCann."

"Don't fucking say my name you pussy!" Jason spat, grabbing Damian's collar. Damian looked surprised for a second but turned that into a smooth smile, his eyes flickering from Jason to Cat, who was standing at the end of the stairs.

"I'm confused... What's this about?"

Jason gripped his collar some tighter as he forcefully pushed Damian against the wall, which luckily for him was just beside them, otherwise he'd have to walk.

Cat whimpered from downstairs.

"Don't act like you don't know anything! You've been fucking trying to get me since that phone call in Dubai!" His entire body was burning with the want to choke Damian to death.

"I don't know what you're talking about." Damian simply replied. He looked like he was struggling a little bit, his face turning red.

"Stop trying to fucking kill me!" Jason exclaimed, kicking his left knee into Damian's crotch. Damian let out a loud gasp as he doubled over.

"Shut up! As if you have balls!"

Jason's fist stomped Damian in his face fiercely. Damian cursed. Jason swung another fist into his face.

"Jason, stop!" Cat screamed.

Another fist. His knee in Damian's crotch. A kick in Damian's knees. A punch in his stomach.

"Fucking hell, Jason what are you on?" Cat shrieked, trying to pull him away from Damian. Apparently she'd gotten up the stairs.

"Don't fucking touch me Cat, I swear to God," He hissed, his eyes on Damian and Damian only. Damian brushed the blood off his nose, his left eye twitching. "I don't know what the hell he's talking about, Cat."

"Liar! You're a fucking liar, you fucking bastard!" Jason spat, trying to grab his shoulders. Cat blocked the way as she pushed Jason backwards. "Calm down! Have you gone mental?"

"Say that to him!" He sneered.

"You are the one barging into the house, kicking the shit out of Damian out of nowhere!" Cat cried out, still blocking the way.

Jason averted his gaze from Damian, sharply looking at Cat. "You're taking his fucking side?"

"I'm not taking sides here I-I'm just—"

"This family is so up this fucker's ass! You guys do realize he's got you all twirled around his fucking finger right?"

"Jaso—"

"Shut it, I'm over this. Thanks again, for showing your true fucking colours." Jason snapped. Cat looked at him helplessly as he roughly pushed her out of the way, hopping down the stairs on one leg. "I'll get you some other time!" He screamed, looking at Damian.

Damian only chuckled. "Third time's a charm, McCann!"

Unbelievable. Un-fucking-believable. He just openly stated he's tried to kill Jason the first two times, and Cat was over there, making sure Damian was okay?

He had to get his crutches and get out of there.

-

"Feeling better?" Alexia whispered, gently caressing Jason's stomach.

After the, eh, incident, Ryan had driven him back to the dorms without a single question asked. Clearly he'd put the pieces together, because he ensured Jason that Damian would not get to him no matter what. Jason was quiet, feeling extremely stupid with the way he'd handled things. Of course Cat now thought that he was the crazy one.

And why was it that Damian hadn't tried to harm or hurt Jason in any way possible while Jason beat the crap out of him? Even with one leg. Surely you'd want to defend yourself? Considering the fact that he's hiring hit men to assassinate him...

Because Cat was downstairs. And if she'd see Damian go ballistic, she'd definitely choose Jason's side.

Shit.

Damian is a smart guy, Jason will give him that.

"Yeah." He murmured, pulling Alexia tighter. Her musk dominated the place, but he was fine with it. He loved her smell, it was strawberry-like and even back when they were seventeen she'd had the same smell and he'd loved it.

This was who he was doing it for. He glanced at her warily, telling himself it'd all be alright. He was doing this for Alexia, she deserved all of this hassle and more. His heart clenched and he closed his eyes, leaning his head on her shoulder.

His leg was throbbing endlessly, reminding him of how idiotic it was to walk on it and he had a serious headache, the entire room spun. The only thing that currently kept him from vomiting all over the place was Alexia. Her soft voice calmed him down as she spoke about nothing important in general. She mentioned shoes and ice cream, Jason wasn't listening. He solemnly focused on her voice and her touch. Her fingers traced his tattoos gently and he eased into the touch, deciding to let everything that had occurred today go. He couldn't think about it when she was there.

"Should I ask?" Alexia murmured in a voice that would not startle Jason. Jason shook his head, but immediately regretted it. Headache.

"Alright babe. Is there anything you need?" Her fingers were still stroking his arms. He opened his eyes and put his head against the wall, forcing the side of his mouth to go up so it would look like a smile. Or something. "I just have a headache." He mumbled.

She nodded. "I'll get you an aspirin, I'll be right back." She stood up off the bed but Jason grabbed her wrist, pulling her back on the bed. Panic started rushing over him as he pulled her as close as possible, putting his lips to her forehead. "Don't leave me."

"It's just for an aspirin..."

"I don't want one. Don't fucking leave me." He hissed, closing his eyes again. Alexia sighed and lightly pushed his arms off her, repositioning herself in a way so he could lean his head against her chest. He was in her arms instead of her in his.

"I won't leave you Jase." Alexia muttered as a matter-of-fact, running her hand through his hair. Jason swallowed.

"Just take deep breaths. Whatever it is, we'll figure it out." She continued to say soothingly, starting to massage his scalp. Jason didn't reply and concentrated on the feeling of her fingers in his hair.

Nothing was right anymore. Jason barely ever focused on school, but now he couldn't even do it if he wanted to. Ryan kept looking at him with that worried expression as if Jason could get shot any second and Chaz was too far up Chloe's ass to notice anything. His leg was still in a cast, Damian was still trying to kill him and the wedding was still on. The only good thing was Alexia. Alexia was perfect. Every single thing she did made Jason fall in love with her more and more.

Alexia bend over and placed a small kiss on Jason's cheek. He exhaled in relief, like he was holding that breath for a very long time, and cupped her cheek with his right hand. "What was that for?"

She paused. "Your jaw was clenched. You always do that when you're upset or angry or nervous or horny, but I know for a fact the last one is not the case right now. I'm just trying to calm you down Jase."

He let out a chuckle. A real one. This woman had him whipped.

"Thank you baby." He breathed, sitting himself up straight so he could as well kiss her on the cheek. It was a long kiss.

The fact that she knew everything about him, even his little quirks, satisfied him in a way that nothing else could. It was like he knew that he was with the right person. Alexia was his soulmate.

"Come on, let me get you all relaxed." She joked, pushing him against her chest again as she worked her magic on his hair. Jason smiled against her shirt, closing his eyes.

"Just try to sleep Jase." She whispered.

Jason nodded faintly.

As long as it was in her arms, he would always be able to sleep.
