CHAPTER ONE

Running a hand through his golden locks, his eyes wandered around the classroom, passionately wishing for the bell to ring. This class had been annoying him endlessly ever since it started. He still wondered why he chose this college, but it was in vain, because really, there was no turning back anymore. The question to why he signed up for college in general drifted through his thoughts occasionally. Perhaps because his parents wanted him to or because all of his friends went to college.

He was the kind of guy to care a lot about his friends. Many people desired to befriend him, Jason McCann was a name that could make anything happen after all, but no one succeeded in doing so. Jason had two best friends, and those were the only friends he needed. Chaz Somers and Ryan Butler had been his best friends since diapers. Their parents were close as well so cutting off all ties with them was not possible. Fortunately, he didn't want to lose them. They were all unique in their own way and completed the others. Chaz Somers may seem like the dumb friend, but hell, what a flirt he was. The guy lived for amusement and would spend all of his time going to clubs and carnavals if he could.

Ryan Butler isthe wise one. His father has an important company and throws a lot of charity balls. He often invites Jason and Chaz for the balls and they usually all end up in a foreign bed. Ryan, though, has decided to settle down a few weeks ago, and ever since he's been all pussy whipped by this Sienna girl.

What was Jason? He was boorish, impolite, and vulgar. He never went a day without calling out someone, but to his defense, everyone asked for it. When Jason wasn't with Chaz and Ryan, he spent the time with either Bumper--his dealer--or with a random girl, aimlessly having sex until either he or she decide to end it. Usually it was him.

Jason inwardly chuckled. People had clear opinions on him, undoubtedly. They thought his behaviour was obnoxious and bothersome, but people will always have opinions, won't they? Jason never harasses anyone who hasn't done anything to him. He likes to keep to himself. It's not like he forces himself on anyone, they just come to him.

Licking his lips, Jason leaned backwards in his wooden chair and looked at the professor warily, not quite following the subject. "Homeostasis is the ability of an open system to regulate its internal environment to maintain stable conditions by means of multiple dynamic equilibrium adjustments controlled by interrelated regulation mechanisms. All living organisms, whether unicellular or multicellular, exhibit homeostasis. I'm sure you already know this since this is high-school work, yet I can spot a couple of confused gazes."

"You don't say." Jason muttered low-key, making the entire back row snicker. They were all slime balls, trying to do whatever it took to become friends with him. They didn't affect him whatsoever and he couldn't care less about his co-students.

The professor kept talking for a while and it started to amaze Jason how someone could speak longer than he actually seemed to breathe. The professor did kind of look unwell...

Snap out of it, Jason.

This should've been the moment where Jason heard the gratifying sound of the professor saying the lecture was over, yet that didn't happen.

Auspiciously, he would be done after this lecture and he could finally celebrate his weekend. Jason was eager to just get back to his dorm room, maybe game a little, get some pizza... Even if Ryan was with Sienna and Chaz would be doing God knows what, he still had many options that included some girls and a room with a lock. Jason had many ways of enjoying his free days, really.

After what felt like forever, the professor dismissed everybody and Jason grabbed all of his stuff in a hurry, being the first to leave the building. He walked in a fast pace, ignoring the commotion behind his back. That is, until someone tapped him on the shoulder and he was forced to slow down.

He turned around, facing the person who had asked for his attention.

It turned out to be a girl, a young one too. She was short, wore big, round glasses and sported a skirt that reached mid-thigh. Jason had never seen her before, but that didn't matter, did it?

"I--Um, I--C-Can you-Um-shit-W-w-w-w-will y-you--"

Jason shot her a dazzling smile, one he knew she would deeply appreciate, and let his eyes slide over her body. Young or not, her tits were huge, though she hid them behind a turtle neck. He could easily make the turtle neck come off, and although Jason wasn't a big fan of blonde-haired, nerdy girls, any girl would do for him.

Her cheeks coloured red, her eyes widening. Her hands shook slightly.

Poor freshmen, always so nervous.

"Don't be shy, beautiful." Jason huskily let out, highly amused by her reaction to his voice and smile. She opened her mouth, but the only thing that came out were stutters.

"I'll tell you what," he spoke, getting annoyed by her coyness, "I'll come by your dorm later, yeah? We'll..." he gently brushed his fingers along her cheeks, licking his lips, "We'll do anything you want."

"O-Okay,"

"What's your name?" He kept his eyes locked with hers until she looked away, her eyes trained on the ground, "C-Chrissy,"

"I'll come by some time this week, Chrissy." And with that, he turned around and strolled away, glad he found fresh pussy he hadn't fucked yet.

Fucking the same girls was tiring, you know.

Back in his dorm room, Chaz and Ryan were both seated in front of the television, controllers in their hands and eyes plastered to the screen. Bags of junk food surrounded them and there was a faint odor that smelled like fart

"'Sup, man?" Chaz greeted, not looking up from the screen. Jason closed the door behind him and threw his bag into the corner of his room, not bothering to look at it once. Plopping down on his bed, he looked at his focused friends. "Why am I in college?"

Ryan narrowed his eyes. "Because if you weren't you would've ended up as a junkie."

Chaz scrunched his nose. "I don't want a junkie as my best friend, that's gross!"

"It's like that, I see." Jason feigned, "Are you guys going to hand me a controller or not?"

"Christ! Ryan! You need to stop taking advantage of me when I'm unfocused!" Chaz cried, throwing his controller away. Both Ryan and Jason burst out in laughter, leaving poor Chaz alone in his disappointment. "I wasn't taking advantage of you, my skills are just better than yours and you won't accept the fact that I won."

Chaz turned to face Jason. "I'm out. You play."

"Finally." Jason quickly snatched the controller from the floor and sat down where Chaz previously sat. As Ryan started a new game, he indirectly started a new conversation too.

"So... any news today?"

"Nope."

"Nothing weird happened?" Chaz implied.

"Besides the fact that Summer died her blonde hair black-which is a turn off-nothing really." Summer was one of the many girls Jason regularly turned to for sex. She was the easiest of all, you can't blame him.

"No devastating news?"

"No."

"No new people who've been bothering you?"

"No..?"

"Nothing that could fuck you up mentally? And physically, if you were so upset you would, like, punch a wall."

"No, what the hell are you talking about? What's with this very weird questions?" Jason exclaimed, tackling Ryan's player in the game. Ryan groaned but put the game to pause, looking at Jason.

"Nothing, we're just worried about you Jason."

"Worried?" Jason snorted and put the controller down, crossing his arms in front of his chest. "There's nothing to worry about. Unless... there is something that could ruin my mood and you wonder whether I've found out about it yet."

"Do you know?" Chaz wondered, his eyes big. Jason knit his eyebrows together. He almost shook his head, but decided to act differently. "Yeah I do."

Ryan and Chaz exhaled in something that sounded like regret. "We're sorry, Jason."

"Yeah, we didn't know she'd transfer here too. We just found out about it today."

Jason raised his eyebrows. "Wait, she? What are you guys even talking about?"

Ryan sighed. "You will find out anyway."

"Yeah, I will, so how about you tell me what this shit is?"

"It's not really fair for me or Chaz to tell you. You'll probably find out tomorrow. It's.. unavoidable. Really. Don't think about it until you know."

And because Ryan was not only Jason's best friend, but he was also the wisest out of the three, Jason didn't question it further. However, he couldn't be more curious to what this mysterious woman was going to do and who exactly she was. There was no woman in this earth that could make him unhappy.

Jason and Ryan continued playing the game and Chaz left after a few minutes, returning with beers. It was pretty fun, but Jason wasn't feeling at ease. There was an unfamiliar emptiness in the pit of his stomach and he didn't know what it was, all he knew was that he had felt this illicit feeling like he subconsciously knew this thing Ryan had told him about would piss him off.

He shared his dorm room with Chaz, so him and Chaz continued playing after Ryan left, but when Chaz exclaimed that he was tired, Jason was left alone. Not really alone--mentally alone. His friends were a great distraction, but now that they were both sleeping he was almost dying to know what this was about.

Putting off his clothes, he stepped into his bed and covered his bare chest with his sheets. A million thoughts ran through his head and he started to feel a headache coming up, a very, piercing, headache.

Who the hell is she? What the hell could she do? What the hell has she done before to make Ryan and Chaz be like that?

Eventually, he fell asleep.

-

Waking up the next morning, Jason had totally forgotten about the thing that had him up all night. Yes, he slept bad but he didn't think about the 'thing'. After taking a shower and changing, he hurried to the cafeteria just around the corner, realizing that it must've been late since Chaz wasn't in his bed anymore.

It was pretty cold again outside, but it wasn't as cold as the day before. Jason zipped up his jacket and firmly stepped into the cafeteria, making the bell jingle. Some people looked up and stared at him shortly until he looked back defiantly.

"Morning, Jason." Ryan hummed from behind his mug as Jason accompanied Chaz and Ryan at their table. Chaz quickly swallowed half his chocolate milk as he didn't dare to look at Jason. "Jesus fucking Christ, what's up with you, Somers?"

"Nothing!" Chaz snapped. Jason rolled his eyes and leaned backwards in the chair, waving at the waitress. She walked over to their table and he ordered his breakfast, sometimes shooting glances at Chaz, who still didn't look at him.

When his food arrived, he started to eat. Ryan and him were engaged in a small conversation about the lectures they had to attend to. Chaz kept silent.

"I have SE first, so if the two of you are going to skip class I will gladly join." Jason stated. Ryan shook his head. "I'm not going to skip and neither is Chaz. Besides, you need to go to your first lecture."

"Why?"

"Because it's important. For your education."

Jason burst out in laughter. "Please, Ryan." Readjusting his position, he wondered if this was about that one thing again.

"You're going to be late."

"No I'm not. Why can't you guys just tell me what's up?" This time he looked at Chaz, his eyes trying to meet Chaz', failing miserably. Chaz shrugged shortly and kept avoiding any sort of contact with his best friend. Ryan didn't look at him too and Jason kept staring at the two best friends, realizing this is the first time they've ever tried to hide something from him. After he realized that they weren't going to tell him, he got off his chair and frowned.

"Fuck you both."

Walking out of the cafeteria, he started running to his class, knowing Ryan was right. He was way too late. The campus was clearing up and most students had left already. It's not like Jason was on time every day.

Fortunately, he didn't arrive too late and when he walked in the professor was still busy trying to get everyone to quiet down. "You're late, McCann."

"I care."

The professor didn't hear him and he sat down in the back without having any trouble furthermore. Some girls immediately stopped talking and tried approaching him, but he was having a bad day already and they all knew what that gaze meant. He was not in the mood.

"Please, everyone stop talking! I have important news!" The professor blasted desperately. Everyone kept talking, which Jason thought was pretty childish. Anyhow, if he had someone interesting to talk to he wouldn't stop talking for the professor either so he wasn't going to judge.

It took the professor 5 minutes and 33 seconds exactly to shut everyone up, Jason counted. It wasn't the professor who finally got everyone quiet, though. It was a nameless woman whom no one had seen before. She had walked in, her eyes nervously flickering from the professor to the students staring at her.

"And who may you be?" The professor uttered.

The weird feeling Jason had had in his stomach the night before got stronger, shock jolting through his body. His knees shook, his throat drying as he raked the girl with his gaze.

She had black hair, tied up into a messy ponytail, and even though it was pulled up, it nearly reached her hips.

Her eyes were big and brown. There was a strong, welcoming and friendly vibe, like gold was anfractuous in her iris. Her adorable nose was next, followed by her sharp cheekbones and her velvet, pink, plump lips.

This is a fucking joke!

Her torso was covered in a simple white blouse, hugging all her beautiful curves. The first buttons of her blouse weren't buttoned and Jason got the chance to look at her deep décolleté, which wasn't that deep. He just imagined the rest. She was wearing skinny jeans, God damn, that ass, and Nikes.

But that wasn't what made her so attractive to Jason.

It was the way her thick, sulky eyelashes rounded her eyes. The way her gentle fingers brushed along her upper arm nervously, the way her hair fell down upon her shoulders so charmingly. The small, half smile she had on her face..

Which, by the way, dropped the exact moment they locked eyes.

Jason swallowed and clenched his jaw, shaking his head nonchalantly and only for her to see. Her lip trembled and albeit he wasn't entirely sure, his heart pounded hard and loud, wanting to hear her confirm it.

"My name is Alexia Valdez," she mumbled, clearly in shock too, but Jason couldn't focus. All he could do was listen to that soft, delicate voice he had desperately been trying to forget all those years. Chills ran up his spine as he closed his eyes and exhaled in regret--regretting listening to her voice at all.

His eyes snapped open and he pushed back his chair roughly, indirectly demanding all the attention. Alexia eyed him, not trying to hide the fact that she had been staring for quite a while. Her eyebrows knit together and although the sight of her looking sad killed him, he didn't give in. Anger rushed through his veins as he stood up and reached the door opening of the classroom, pushing her out of the way. His legs were only taking orders from his mind, running away as fast as possible, as far away as he could. His heart, of course, was giving different demands. It felt like something was pulling his body, wanting him to go back.

But he kept running. He wasn't stupid, he was no fool, going back there would only cause damage to him and her.

The cold seeped through his clothes quickly and he started shivering feverishly as his legs kept going. He didn't know exactly where he was going, but he did know he wasn't intentionally planning on coming back.
