A main problem in the anime fandom is using the word 'otaku' in describing yourself.

So I'm not going to mindlessly bash all the anime fans who call themselves otaku, okay? Okay. Dont worry, many anime fans make this mistake. I for once, in my weeb stage *cringe* called myself an otaku. My friends called themselves otaku. My fellow internet anime fans called themselves otaku. We anime fans all go through this phase, and stay that way until...

We know its true meaning.

Most of then new anime fans label themselves as 'otaku' thinking that it just means 'anime fan,' right?

WRONG!

In the original Japanese meaning, otaku is actually referred to 'someone so overly obsessed at something that that person eventually loses his/her social outside life and becomes a loner cooping up in his/her house. There can be otaku of anything: car otaku, fashion otaku, sports otaku, anime otaku... but they still carry the same 'obsessed to the point of having no social life' label.

Like if Japan had an equivalent for 'weeaboo,' otaku would take the cake.

Not so okay now, isn't it?

Now, as some of you fans think that you should be proud of calling yourself whatever you want, but as the maker of this rant, I have to disagree.

Proud of being called an idiot?? ...okay?

Look, I never saw the hype in priding (idk if thats even a word) yourself in being called a negative label. Some people say it's fine because 'nerd' was a negative label used as a good word, yeah like otaku and nerd are the same thing.

Nerd and otaku aren't the same thing because calling yourself an otaku is way worse!

Well, that's what I think. To those who think otherwise okay there's no stopping you, good luck in life, I guess!

Not to mention that this whole 'calling yourself otaku' thing can also be used to fuel anime haters/bashers to insult us since to them it's almost basically equivalent to us being major weebs not realizing we are calling ourselves shit...

So when a new anime fan calls his/her self an otaku, just... Please no. Bring your weeb self somewhere else. Also, to those who still think it's not a bad thing, then well shit bring your weeb self somewhere else.
