Chapter Three
A day later, Hastinapura royals reached Paurava Kingdom. Karna got down followed by Duryodhana. "Beautiful Kingdom", Duryodhana said.
They entered inside the palace and got welcomed by everyone. They entered the royal court.
"Arjuna. Are you excited to meet your wife?" Bheem teased and Arjuna glared at him. Karna looked away from them and observed his surroundings. He really liked how they maintained it and the one colour style of the kingdom. It was admirable!
"Welcome!" The king said and got up to welcome them. Hastinapura royals accepted it and all exchanged greetings. Karna noticed that the king was looking at him weirdly. He rolled his eyes.
Royals and their attitude.
While, the Princess had two balconies. One of them opened inside the palace and she could peek in the royal court using her binoculars.
"Are you looking at Prince Arjuna?" One maid teased making Kirti frown. Her personal maid chuckled. "No. She's admiring Ang-raj", she said. Kirti smiled hearing it.
She wanted to meet him and tell him about her feelings.
"Is there a way to talk to him?" She asked. Maids shook their heads in refusal. "No", her personal maid said. Kirti frowned. "I am going out", she said.
Here, Karna looked at Duryodhana. "Mitra. I need to go out", he said. He wanted to see this place. "Ok. You go. I will inform you about the happenings in the court", Duryodhan said.
Karna had no worries about objections. They wouldn't want a Sutputra between them anyway and he wasn't even interested to sit with them.
With the Princess
"No. You can't call him publicly and these two families don't have good relations even if they belong to one Kingdom. You will wage a war, unintentionally", said the personal maid.
Kirti ignored her and ran outside as the maids followed her worriedly. "Princess, please", they begged.
Kirti saw Karna walking out. She grinned and ran in his direction. Karna heard sounds of anklets and turned around to see a young maiden running in his direction. He couldn't understand what was happening.
To his surprise and shock, the maiden held his hand and pulled him. Karna followed her and looked like a lost puppy. The maids stopped with fearful expressions on their faces.
Kirti took Karna in a room in an isolated place. She locked the door. "Lady...?" He asked. "What are you...?" He stopped as she hugged him and broke down. Karna couldn't help but feel worried and scared. A strange lady comes and hugs him and starts crying.
What on Earth was happening?
"H-hug me, P-please", she said. Karna was taken aback. He raised his hands and slowly, wrapped them around her. "Are you ok?" He asked. She didn't respond and kept sobbing. She was in no mood to leave him.
She pulled apart and Karna freed her from his hold. She bent down and touched his feet, still crying. "Lady. What are you doing?" He asked in panick and pulled her up.
"You're for real, right?" She sobbed. "Yes! I am. But, what's wrong? Who are you? What is happening?" Karna asked. "I-I am princess Kirti", Kirti said. Karna widened his eyes.
The Princess who would marry Arjuna.
He saw her smiling in tears and holding his hands, still trying to be completely sure, she wasn't dreaming.
Karna instantly moved back making her whimper. He knew if they saw them together, they will think low of him. Arjuna would think it's his way of making him feel inferior when in real, Karna never wants any of that. He just wants to prove that no caste defines personality and son of a charioteer can be a warrior too.
"I am sorry. I think we should leave before anyone sees us", Karna said. "Listen to me, first", Kirti said and blocked his way by standing in front of the door.
"Lady...", he started to speak. "Please", she requested, cutting him off. He sighed. He knew she won't let go of him so he nodded, unaware of the upcoming storm that is coming in his and Vrushali's marriage.
"I love you, Angraj", she confessed and Karna looked at her, shocked. He stared at her, jaw drop. "Since the day you came and challenged Arjuna, in entire country, it was all about you and Arjuna's cold war. I started feeling attracted to you and when a painter sold your painting to me, I instantly fell in love with you", she explained.
Karna stood still, not able to believe what he was hearing. "I talked to father for our marriage, I wanted to say about my love to you, but he doesn't want to marry me to a Sutputra and is going to finalise my marriage with Pandu putra. I don't want to marry him. I love you", she said and came closer, holding his hand in her hands.
"I don't believe in caste system. I have been against it, always. But, I am a girl. No one will listen to me and my love. Please take me from here, with you", Kirti cried. Karna was overwhelmed.
Since the day, his younger brother, was killed so brutally, he accepted that caste was a curse and it ruined everything. Amidst that cruelty, hearing these love filled words spoken genuinely, truthfully and by heart, from a princess of a mighty Kingdom, going to marry his arch rival, it was really unbelievable.
"Princess", he spoke gently. "I am really glad after hearing your feelings for a low born like me", he said. "But?" She asked with trembling voice. He felt his heart clench but he couldn't keep her in dark. "I am already going to marry a girl, I love", he said and Kirti gasped.
"I can't marry you", he spoke further. Kirti nodded slowly. "I-I s-should go, s-sorry", she said and went to open the door but it seemed she lost control of her hands. She tried to open the door but she wasn't able to. She was shaking. She let out a frustrated cry.
Karna's heart broke seeing her in this state.
"Kirti...", he said and went towards her. He pulled her in a hug. He wanted to calm her down. He frowned as he felt her body way too warmer. He called her out, "Kirti", he said. He didn't hear any response. He repeated her name thrice but to no avail.
He tilted her to look and panicked seeing her closed eyes. She had passed out. "Kirti", he said.
He sighed seeing her not opening her eyes. He opened the door and saw the maids. They gulped. "King, come with us through the secret passage", Kirti's personal maid said.
Karna nodded and followed them. He was surprised seeing her room filled with his pictures. He lied her on the bed. "Oh king", said the personal maid and Karna looked at her.
"She really loves you a lot. All she does is talk about you, talk to your portrait, she has made clothes for you and even different bows. She really loves you a lot. Yes, she will accept your rejection and marry Pandu putra but I know my princess, she has submitted herself to you. She will die if you don't marry her", the maid said.
Karna couldn't understand what to do. His mind roamed around his and Vrushali's love, promise, her fear and tears, which was coming true.
"Marry her, take her with you, even if you keep her in a corner, she will be happy as all she needs is you. She worships you", said the maid. Karna felt his world turning upside down but he couldn't refuse to marry the Princess.
"I will marry her", he said.
Screen freezes on Karna's face after he promised, fainted Kirti, Vrushali staring at the rose with a smile.
