Chapter Sixty One

Karna stared at Jaydrath who was getting rebuked for his actions. The problem was that if he's punished, Dusshala's future will be in danger and if he's not, it would be injustice to the girl. Not to forget, his sister was now Karna's wife.

(I don't support any crimes in case you would attack me. It's Dwapar Era we are talking about. So, please keep this
in mind)

"I would like to say something", Vallabhi spoke. Everyone looked at her.

"Angraj married me to save my dignity. I am thankful for it. I can't forget Jaydrath is my sister in law's husband. And, knowing the position of women in this society, I won't like Dusshala suffering from any kind of injustice or pain, without any fault of her's", Vallabhi said.

"Therefore, I request that you grant me and my husband the permission, to decide the punishment for him", she added.

Dritrashtra thought for a moment. His daughter's thoughts roamed in his mind. Along with that, he thought, it would be perfect if the victim only decides the punishment, so he nodded in agreement.

"Jaydrath, you are the worst person I have ever seen", Karna said simply.

Dusshala, who got to know from Avantika about Karna knowing the truth, rushed to him. She held his hand and Karna looked at her.

She was smiling for others but Karna noticed her tears and pleading.

He understood she was requesting him to hide it and he also needed to have a chat with her, so he kept quiet. Though, he was feeling much angry on Jaydrath.

"I want Jaydrath to walk barefoot till the entrance of the kingdom gates without his Angavastra and crown. He should have his face blackened and he should apologise repeatedly for what he had done", Vallabhi said, clenching her fists and glaring at Jaydrath.

"He is not allowed to meet Dusshala until she decides to go back on her own. I don't think, I would like to send my sister after knowing what he did", Karna said.

Avantika kept quite but she thought, her brother deserved this punishment.

"Why would you not kill him, instead?" Draupadi asked.

"For Dusshala", Vallabhi spoke. "And Avantika", she added. "Besides, if Angraj didn't marry me, you all would have suggested me to get married to this beast which I never wanted. I am lucky to be saved from him and married to Angraj", Vallabhi said.

"Sadly, all this society does is, killing our souls and forcing us to live without it, by making us marry the men who broke us. What can be more traumatising than that? They don't save our so called dignity in it but just try to send us away as they thing of us as burden, a thing which is used and they don't want it anymore", Vallabhi said painfully.

"However, Angraj married me and saved me from this. He could have easily fought my family as Avantika was alright. But, he chose to do what was being told to him and didn't protest seeing my tears, even when he was himself broken from inside. He did what he thought, he could do to help me out, thinking my father wanted the best for me, which was unfortunately, not the case. My father didn't care for me", Vallabhi said.

"Marrying Angraj is the best thing that happened to me. He saved me. He did the deed only after my permission. He could have easily done it as my life was in danger. No one would have questioned him but he did wait for my approval. He could have left me afterwards but taking the decision, quite maturely, making sure I was fine with it, he married me. Unlike others, he really wanted to keep my dignity intact", Avantika said.

"This will be the best punishment for Jaydrath", Vallabhi said. Karna wrapped an around her shoulder to give her comfort.

"I wish you realise your mistake, Bhratashree", Avantika said in tears and came forward to hug but Karna held her hand. She struggled meekly and begged him by her eyes. He nodded no at her, smiling sadly.

As much as it hurt him, seeing her tears, he couldn't let her hug Jaydrath, not until he realises his mistake. Otherwise, Jaydrath might use sympathy card with his sister and never try to understand what he did.

"A-arya", Avantika requested. Karna pulled her back as the soldiers came to take Jaydrath. She broke down and Karna pulled her in a hug.

"Sometimes being cold helps our loved ones to get on the right path", he whispered.

Avantika nodded as she hid her face in his torso. Karna kissed her hair. "I am sure he will come back after becoming a better person, for his sister", Karna said. He was also scared of his behaviour towards Avantika. Knowing that he abused Dusshala and now she was married to Karna whom Jaydrath, might be hating by now. He didn't want to send Avantika close to him.

"Take him", Bhishma roared in anger.

Jaydrath clenched his jaw. But, he knew, saying or protesting against anything would mean death as he was standing in one of the most powerful kingdoms and he knew that Karna knew by now what was he doing with Dusshala.

If looks could kill, Jaydrath would be burned by now.

Karna was glaring at him hard. He had possessive hold over Dusshala, she was stopping him from saying or doing anything.

Karna would have slayed him, right then and there, otherwise.

The soldiers took Jaydrath.

Jaydrath was angry. He really thought he would pretend to cry and use Avantika to get away from punishment but Karna guessed it. And, he was more angry at Karna marrying Vallabhi. He wanted that girl. She was so beautiful. He wanted her and Draupadi. He would take revenge of this insult for sure. Dusshala will return to him one day. And, now he could use his sister as bait against Hastinapur. He had two arrows to get his target.

Karna was right.

Jaydrath was the most disgusting person, you could ever meet. He was thinking of using his own sister, who endured so much because of him.

"I think enough has happened today, disperse", Dritrashtra said loudly.
