Chapter Sixteen

Karna went in deep thoughts listening to his wives.

"I will make sure of that", he said determined. His wives smiled at him and hugged him as he hugged them back.

Only if he had the ability to stay true to it.

"Angraj", he heard the guard. They parted away as Karna hummed loudly. The door opened. "Yes?" Karna asked formally. "Kumar Duryodhan is waiting for you", The guard said and bowed and left.

Karna shared glances with his wives who smiled at him. "I will come after meeting him", he said to his wives. They nodded and he went. He kept thinking about what his wives told him and continued walking towards the chamber where Duryodhan called him.

"Come mitr", Duryodhan said and Karna smiled. He saw a sand castle and furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. "You are playing with sand? Just after you got married?" He asked amused.

"Cmon mitr", Duryodhan said happily. Karna entered inside and closed the door. "What's happening?" He asked.

"We were planning something", Duryodhan said in an evil tone. "What are you planning?" Karna asked confused.

"Varnavrat", Duryodhana laughed.

"Varnavrat?" Karna repeated in a trance. "Means?" He asked puzzled. "You see, mitr. This is the best way of ending their lives", Duryodhan said. Karna furrowed his eyebrows. "This doesn't seem any war tactic to me", Karna said slowly.

"Are you not understanding this, mitr?" Duryodhan asked. Karna shook his head. "Let me explain", Duryodhana smiled. But, it sent chills down Karn's spine. "W-what?" Karna asked.

"You see this, this is a palace, made of wax", ended Duryodhan slowly and smirked. Karna observed it carefully. "Now see this", Duryodhan lit a matchstick. "What are you doing?" Karna asked panicked. "It will burn into ashes", Karna laughed.

Duryodhan's head snapped towards Karna making him unknowingly flinch. "That's what I want, mitr", he said slowly and threw the matchstick on the palace making it burn completely. Karna looked in front in horror.

"This is how those Pandavas will die", Duryodhan said.

"D-die?" Karna asked. "Die", Duryodhan repeated. "How?" Karna asked. "Purochan has made a Lakshagrah in Varnavrat. It's made from lac. Just one spark of fire will be enough to burn the whole palace and Pandavas will die in them along with their mother Kunti", Duryodhan laughed.

Karna's eyes widened. Anyone but her! "M-Mata Kunti?" He asked. "No way, Duryodhan", Karna said ferociously. "I am not participating in this stupidity. It's a cowardly act. Try to defeat them in battlefield and gain genuine praises from people rather than killing them behind their backs", Karna snapped.

"Even if you want to kill them, why are you including Mata Kunti in it? She has no fault. She's a doting mother and has been a very loving lady to me. She has showered her affection on me since I was a kid. Only in my case, she forgets all caste and system and rules. She thinks of me as her own son. I-I can't r-return her f-favour on m-me like this", his voice cracked.

"Mitr, are you even understanding what you are saying? It seems that you are in favour of those five", Duryodhan said angrily. Karna sighed. He went towards Duryodhana and held his hand in his. "You misunderstanding me when I want to give my life for you in return of everything that you have done, is the last thing I want", he said.

"But, try to understand my point of view. A warrior never plays politics. He fights and fights till his last breath. You should too! You have every warrior on your side, by their oaths, promises and desires, everyone will be bound to you. So, just wage a war, instead of this and rightfully claim the throne", Karna said.

"War?" Duryodhan asked and looked at Karna, who nodded. "With whom?" Duryodhan asked taking him aback by this. "With my Pitahmah who has oath for Hastinapura and will choose the rightful king, who is Yudhister in his view. With my guru whose favourite disciple is Arjuna. With my own people", Duryodhan said.

"You are trying to burn your very own brothers", Karna deadpanned. "And you are worried about war with your own people. Mahamahim has the oath only regarding Hastinapura and his service to the kingdom. Fighting against the King's sons is not an option. Mahamantri Vidur will not participate. Ashwatthama will be at your side as he hates his father giving more attention to Arjuna than him. Guru Dronacharya will side with his son which means with you. Rukmi will be with you as Arjuna helped Dwarakadish kidnap his sister. Kalinga will be with you. What else would you want?" Karna asked.

"Yes. Mama shree then why we need to do this? We can straightaway go for the battle", Duryodhan said. Karna nodded and felt relief as now Kunti won't be in danger.

Shakuni rolled his eyes. "They love the Pandavas so much that they won't hesitate dying for them and war will bring much destruction. Whom will you rule on, then? That's why it's necessary to end the war this way. No one will be suspicious. They will forget the Pandavas and you will rule on people. Otherwise they will hate you as they prefer Yudhister more", Shakuni said. Duryodhan found it logical enough and he nodded in agreement.

"Mitr?" Karna protested. "Mata Kunti will be saved. Just her sons will die", Duryodhan assured. "And even if she does, you have promised your loyalty to me. Are you betraying me?" Duryodhana asked.

Karna shook his head.

"Then just let me do this. Our way will be clear", Duryodhana said. Karna gulped. "Mata Kunti will escape, right?" Karna asked. "Yes", Duryodhan lied to him. He knew Karna would understand later.

He overlooked the strong attachment Karna shared with Mata Kunti.

Karna went out. He didn't find this idea good at all. But, he had to support Duryodhan. Duryodhana looked at him sadly when Karna protested and Karna felt really bad. It was his duty to support him.

He forgot what his wives told him in this emotional manipulation.

Karna's eyes widened as he saw a girl with face covered in the garden. He held his sword and went there. "Who's it?" He asked. The girl got frozen on her state. That made his suspicions grew wider.

She was an intruder.

She tried to run but he kept the sword on her neck, stopping her. "One more step and you're dead", he said. She countered his attack by taking her sword out and turned into a sword fight.

Karna was impressed by her skills. She was countering each of his attack. However, at the end, he won. Her sword fell and he pinned her, keeping his sword just next to her neck that it was touching her skin.

Their eyes locked with each other.

"I am impressed by your skills", he muttered and removed her cloth. He was shocked to see the person.

"Urvi?" He asked. She glared at him. "Princess Urvi", she said and pushed him back. "Don't forget from where you belong", she said rudely and turned to go. Karna got angry and pulled her back, again pinning her. His sword at her neck again.

"Don't forget where you are", he said. "Princess", he added. "Get ready to be presented in front of Kumar Duryodhan", he said and pressed the vein on her neck, making her faint and fall in his arms.

He sighed and lifted her up. He brought her to Duryodhana's room where he was trying to play chess with his wife who was constantly laughing at him.

"Mitr", he said and both turned around. They got taken aback seeing Urvi in his arms. "What is she doing here?" Bhanumati asked concerned. "She was intruding and I had to knock her out", Karna replied.

"Arya, she is not any danger. Leave her please", Bhanumati said seeing her husband keenly looking at the Princess. "Isn't she your friend?" Duryodhan asked. "Why was she intruding by the way?" He asked further. "Whatever the reason is, she shouldn't have. Mitr, take her to your room and wait for her to wake up. We will clear the things then", he said.

Bhanumati grew worried. "He won't eat her", Duryodhan rolled his eyes. "Let's focus on our game", he said.

Karna stood there awkwardly with Urvi in his arms.
