Chapter Seven

Karna had seen his wives faces fell when he told them about the war. "It's not right. He is not your guru so why should you give him guru dakshina and who asks for half a kingdom in return? That's so insulting for a king", Kirti protested. Karna smiled at her.

"I am just going as a supporter for my friend, if he may need me, which I know, he won't as he's powerful and smart enough with his brothers on his side. Also, don't forget King Drupad did insult Guru Dronacharya and I am just needed to fulfil my duties, I have no right to question him about what he needs and what not", Karna said.

Vrushali hesitated and Karna noticed his wife's discomfort. "Do you want to say something?" He asked her gently. Vrushali fiddled with her fingers. "Is it because...you see this as an opportunity to...", she was cut off. "Prove myself superior to Arjun?" He asked.

Kirti shifted her feet uncomfortably. He would angry. But, to their surprise, he smiled. "To be honest, yes. As a person facing the cruelty of this world since birth, I have always been keen to prove that anyone can hold weapons. I never desired for kingdom and war, it is gifted to me. I just desired to show these people, my skills so that this ordeal that's going on since ages, comes to an end", he said. "I have never hated Arjun for his skills", he said.

"I have hated him for his silence on seeing my tears when Shon...", he paused and his wives came closer to offer him comfort. "Out of all, I thought that Pandu putras would speak based on stories about their father but they didn't. I was really heartbroken after that. I was horrified at the extent the royalties could go to defeat their very own people. Since then, it became my motive to gain the rights to hold weapons and Dronacharya's rejection added fuel to it. Proving myself superior to Arjun would be the only way to make them realise that rules need to change. King needs to be chosen by deeds and not by birth. A sut needs to have the rights to hold bow and arrows as per desires".

His wives looked at him with pride. "We are with you, Arya. I wish I knew about you earlier and could stop bhrata shree from getting killed", Kirti said and hugged him. Vrushali hugged him from other side. He caressed their hairs. "No one can change the past, darlings", he said. He kissed their heads.

"Mitr?" They pulled apart and saw Duryodhana at the entrance. He smirked and the trio got flustered. "What a nice scene to watch", Duryodhana mused. "Duryodhan", Karna warned and Duryodhana chuckled. "Pranipat bhrata shree", Kirti said. "Pranipat Duryodhan", Vrushali said, as she was elder to Duryodhana.

"Pranaam Bhabhi", he said to both. "We need to leave", he said as he faced Karna. Karna nodded, feeling sad as his wives smiles dropped. "I will return soon", he said and they nodded. They had full faith in their husband's capabilities. Karna hugged them again and bidding farewell, he left.

The friends walked through the corridor and saw all the Princes taking blessings from Dronacharya and all other elders. Duryodhana went and took blessings. Karna watched it from afar. He missed his parents but couldn't go back to his village, right now.

"Putr", he turned around and saw Kunti. "Are you ready for the war?" She asked and Karna smiled. He had always felt attachment with her, not because of all childhood Encounters, it was just something that he couldn't explain. "Yes", he said and bent down to take her blessings. "What blessings are you going to give since you gave Vijaya bhava to your sons, obviously?" He asked, curiously.

"For a mother, more than win, her son's life is important. I wish for Arjun to win but I desire for you to be safe more than your win, Karna. He has his brothers with him but you have none", Kunti said with tears. She knew Karna was going to have all burden as Kaurava princes were nothing in front of her six sons.

Karna smiled. "I will have your blessings with me, as always", he said. Kunti felt her heart clench. "Putr, return safe", she said. Karna smiled and nodded. He got up.

"Why are you blessing this Sutputra? Mata", He heard and turned around. He saw Pandavas standing there. He glared at Bheem. Bheem was obsessed with his caste.

"Bheem. Blessings are for everyone", Yudhister scolded. Karna sighed. Only if Shon wasn't killed so brutally and Yudhister wouldn't have been silent for his myth dharma, Karna would have voted for Yudhister to be king but now, he was against it. He feared how many Shons would be killed in name of dharma.

"But jyesht", Bheem protested however, Yudhister's glare stopped him. Arjun was looking in deep thoughts. He was thinking about Shakuni's words. Shakuni was somewhat using Karna and Arjuna felt weirdly troubled about it.

"Your mother has been really close to me. I met her even before you were born, when I was almost six or seven and went in a forest alone. She fed me with her own hands and sang a lullaby for me. Your father taught me how to practice the skill of calling an arrow back and addressed me as his friend. So, kindly don't speak on my bond with Queen mother", Karna said.

Even though, these fives were her sons, they couldn't make him and Queen Mother stop talking to each other. She was the first lady to give him motherly affection, he wouldn't avoid her for anything.

Kunti's eyes filled up with tears. Surely, Karna had more right on her than her five sons as he was her first born. But, her cowardice stopped her from supporting her son, so she stood silent.

"How dare you?" Bheem roared. "My mother is everyone's mother but blessing my enemy sounds really interesting", Arjuna said. "It's really amusing that you have an enmity towards me when I have done absolutely nothing wrong to you, here, you are taking my mother's blessings. Which side are you on? Angraj", Arjuna asked.

"As I said, I have a special bond with mother Kunti which isn't going to get ruined for anything, even if it is the enmity I share with her sons. And, I am on the side of my friend. But, taking blessings from Queen Kunti doesn't have any affect on the side, I am on. Despite being enemies, even you have taken blessings from Maharaj Dhritrashtra and Queen Gandhari. Don't you think that questioning me for the same thing is hypocrisy?" Karna asked. Bheem scowled at him while the other four just looked at him blankly.

"I will take your leave now", Karna said with a smile and bid farewell to Kunti, who smiled painfully.

Only if she had enough courage to tell the truth to her eldest and end this enmity. But, her cowardice stopped her. Sadly, she didn't knew, what consequences could her silence bring and where her six sons would be standing one day while she will be left helpless as a mother.
