Chapter Nineteen
The ornaments bags were held by the three girls quickly. They gazed at Karna who had solemn expressions on his face. "Arya, are you alright?" Supriya asked worriedly. Karna could not gather the courage to answer that so he just nodded his head slightly.
Vrushali knew something was troubling him but he decided against answering that. She decided to not push him further and ask him when the right time comes.
"You brought this for us?" Kirti asked excitedly. Karna nodded and went passed them. He was eager to meet Kunti at this point. His wives frowned and followed him. The bags in their hands. The grips on them tightening as they found Karn's behavior scarily odd.
"Mitr", Duryodhan appeared before Karn. "Huh?" He asked in a trance but then shook his head. "Yes?" He asked clearly. "Come. We need to meet Urvi", Duryodhan said. Karna was irritated as he wanted to meet Kunti and tell her what was wrong. If not that, then request her to stop but he followed Duryodhan.
"Now only?" Karna asked, desperately.
"Yes. That's more important", Duryodhana said and Karna went with him, reluctantly. His wives followed him and they reached the room where Bhanumati was sitting with Urvi and talking with her.
Urvi's face morphed in anger seeing the two friends.
"You tell me what I should do with you princess?" Duryodhan asked. "Leave Bhanumati", Urvi gritted her teeth. "She's my wife", Duryodhan said. "Unwillingly", Urvi added, angering Duryodhan.
"Mitr", Duryodhan said and Karna looked at him. "Lock her in the prison for a whole night", Duryodhan ordered. Karna widened his eyes. "M-Mitr?" Karna asked in shock.
"I won't repeat", Duryodhan said. Kirti, Supriya and Bhanumati looked shaken but Urvi had no expressions on her face. She kept her hand on Bhanumati's to stop her from saying something and got up. She followed Karna out of the room, silently.
"I am sorry", Karna said. "For what?" Urvi asked and turned around. "For blindly supporting your friend?" She asked. Karna opened his mouth to speak but Urvi showed her palm, stopping him. "Apologise to me, when you mean it by heart, when you accept what you did by supporting Duryodhan was wrong", Urvi said.
She silently walked further as Karna walked beside her, troubled by everything. He led her in the prison and locked her inside. She didn't say anything and sat down by the wall, hugging her knees, quietly.
Karna went back with an emotional turmoil in his heart.
He saw Pandavas coming his way and froze on his place. They saw him and approached him. "Pranaam Angraj", The four except Bheem greeted him. Karna silently nodded and hummed, looking intently at them.
"Are you troubled? Angraj", Arjun asked, noticing his facial expressions. "J-just...just tired", Karna whispered. He tried to tell them about Varnavrat when he remembered his promise to Duryodhan and sighed. Pandavas looked confused at him.
"Excuse me", he said and rushed past them. He heard Arjun saying, "He's so weird. He has mood swings like pregnant ladies", which made Karna almost snap at him but he had other things to worry about.
Karna went towards his room and saw Vrushali and Kirti sitting beside Supriya, holding her from either sides, as she cried and wailed about Urvi's imprisonment.
"She's safe", Karna said. The trio got up and rushed towards him. "She's alright. I am sure, Duryodhan's anger will subside by tomorrow morning", Karna told his wives. "But, one night...Arya, can't you convince Kumar?" Supriya asked.
"She did intrude in the palace. I don't think Duryodhan will agree. If we try to convince him, he will get more angry. And, increase the punishment", Karna said. Supriya looked down sadly so Karna pulled her in a hug.
"I know it's wrong but it's his order and going against it would cause more trouble for her only. Duryodhan won't say me anything", Karna explained. Supriya nodded slowly and Karna proceeded to go and sit on the bed.
He sat by the bed rest and Supriya and Vrushali sat by his either sides keeping their heads on his shoulder. Kirti pouted thinking of sitting far from him but Karna chuckled and indicated her to sit on his lap as he looked at her lovingly.
Kirti nodded excitedly, like the kid she was, she sat on his lap and kept her head on his chest as Karna smiled. His three wives kept hugging him and slept. Karna couldn't tell him what was going to happen tomorrow and how was he gonna regret it, he kept silent.
His silence would bring some unthinkable consequences, he would have never thought about.
The sun had set already. It was darkness everywhere. Karna could stare at the stars in the sky. They looked like tiny dots but looked beautiful, nevertheless.
He stared at his wives peaceful faces knowing very well how they will convert into horror once he tells about Varnavrat conspiracy to them.
Of course! After Pandavas go...
With Kunti
That was not the only reason that troubled him surprisingly, he also felt it was wrong to do it with Pandavas. He was feeling worried for them. This was happening with him ever since he first met Arjun, when they were teenagers, 'Van ke Samrat' memory rushed in his mind. It brought a smile on his face.
That was the time, he had looked at Arjun as if he was an adorable little baby and told him, he reminded him of Shon, his younger brother.
And that ruined his mood.
Shon...how Arjuna's silence when Shon was brutally killed brought all love down from his heart for the brothers.
Now that he was getting the chance to kill them unfairly, just like his younger brother was killed, he was still feeling bad. He was feeling troubled and something inside him was urging him to prevent it. But what? What was it?
It came occasionally and then went.
It was frustrating him. He wanted nothing but to get rid of these thoughts. Was he really getting mood swings like Arjuna said? That of a pregnant lady? He grumbled under his breath.
Even though he hated Arjun, all he could think about wad him only.
Not only just as an enemy. Something more...something that he wasn't able to define. Seeing him laughing would always remind Karna of Shon. Why was it so?
Shon was his younger brother while Arjuna was not.
He felt his eyes drifting so he nudged his wives and gently made them lie down on the bed. Supriya and Kirti were on his left side, their heads laying on his left arm while Vrushali was on his right side, her head also laying on his right arm.
He closed his eyes and drifted into sleep. The last thought coming in his mind was of the Vaanar princess who wanted God knows what from him. He hoped to give her that. Only if he stayed at peace after Pandavas leave for Varnavrat.
Deep inside he knew, he would be far away from peace.
