Chapter Nine
They reached near Anga later at night.
"I hope that Duryodhana is safe", Karna said to his wives. His wives gave him assuring smiles. "The one hundred and five brothers have went together. They will keep each other safe", Kirti said.
"One hundred and five, Kirti", Vrushali said emphasising that they were not together. "Yes. The cousins hate each other. I fear they will fight each other instead of Panchal king. They are unpredictable", Karna told the girls.
"I can't say about what will happen in our absence but in our presence, as a good friend, it's your duty, you don't encourage the enmity and try to put a stop on it", Kirti said. "This enmity is not something that can be stopped. It appears that it's just for the throne, but it started long back, I believe. And, I have a feeling that this enmity will be reached to a permanent pause only after something terrific. Besides, if great warriors like Mahamahim and Dronacharya couldn't stop it, who am I then?" Karna said.
"They couldn't stop it because their actions encouraged it", Vrushali said. "What do you mean?" Karna asked confused. "Maharaj Dhritrashtra was refused to be the king for his blindness even when he was the eldest. He felt terrible, obviously. Later, when Maharaj Pandu went for exile, he became king. When Kumar Duryodhan was born, it was suggested to kill him...", Karna widened his eyes
Vrushali continued. "Because it was said he was going to bring destruction to the kingdom. King Dhritrashtra felt really betrayed by all this. No father would hear this for his son. Also, he feared that Pandu putras will be king as Kumar Yudhister was born earlier and Gandhari Mata couldn't conceive. Everything impacted the coming generation. While it was obvious that Kumar Yudhister should be the king as he's the eldest, Kumar Duryodhan also deserves to be the king as his father is the king. So, this is how deep this enmity is", Vrushali said.
Karna looked surprised. "I didn't knew this", he muttered. "You came in later years. Obviously, you didn't. However, you should know that the enmity between this cousins will surely not bring good results. Are you really sure, you want to stay in that tensed environment? To be honest, this royal family seems cursed to me. Nothing feels right, here. I am worried for you. I don't want you to suffer in your quest for change and end of caste system", Vrushali said. Karna looked in deep thoughts.
"No matter what the results are", he said. "I am bound to Duryodhana for everything he has given me and will support him till the end", Karna said. "Just remember Arya", Kirti said. "Support means never leaving side in good or bad times, not encouraging things which you don't feel are right. Don't support wrong for the sake of friendship and speak when needed", Kirti said.
"I will take care of that", Karna muttered. "We are going to reach Anga, in few seconds", he told.
Here, Kauravas were defeated and held captive by Panchal king. "I will behead you all and send your heads as gifts to Hastinapura. Too stupid of you to think you can defeat me", he said. Duryodhan glared at him.
They struggled in the ropes.
"Deserve it", Bheem laughed. "We need to save them. They are our brothers", Arjun said. "Name sake", Nakul said. "Nakul", Yudhister warned. "I will better watch them suffering from afar", Sahdev said. "Sahdev", Yudhister warned again.
"Come on. Think about Gandhari Mata. She loves us so much. We can do this for her", Arjun said. "Whatever. Let's go", Bheem rolled his eyes. "We will stay together", Yudhister said.
The five brothers went ahead to defeat Drupad.
Here, Karna was met with a weird sight in Anga. "They are preparing drinks?" Karna asked. "Arya. My father told me that Anga's people prepare drinks for Maharaj Jarasandh and send it to him. Hastinapura does nothing to help them in fear of war", Kirti said.
"Getting defeated in a war or duel by your enemy is never a thing of shame for me as a warrior. Because, I will never stop fighting. Fighting and dying is a thing of honour, than defeat. Running away from war is simply cowardice and I didn't expect it from Hastinapur. Why do they do this? Always stay quiet. No matter what!" Karna said enraged. "Why?" He asked.
"Cowardice of this Kingdom in the facade of dharma will be the major reason of its doom", Vrushali said slowly.
The trio went ahead and saw the people. Karna widened his eyes seeing a woman who was getting beaten by a man. He felt enraged. "Stay right here, darlings", he said. He went ahead and pushed that man back. "Stop it. Aren't you ashamed? How can you misbehave with a woman?" Karna asked angrily.
"She was stealing food", the man accused. "I haven't eaten anything since two days", the woman cried. "Well...if you don't do your work and start eating, Jarasandh will eat us instead", the man said.
Karna was shocked seeing it. "The whole problem is Jarasandh right? I will free you all from him", Karna announced. "Why will you do this for us?" Another man asked. "Because I am your king. You are my people", he said to the people there in possessive tone. He hated how that Jarasandh treated these innocent people and now he was going to put an end to it.
"What? No way. You don't even know how powerful he is", the man said. Karna shook his head. "Every problem has a solution. No one is invincible, not me, not anyone else. There is a way to defeat everyone who are considered powerful. So there will be a way, of defeating Jarasandh too", Karna said wisely.
"Till I go there, your Queens will be here with you and help you throughout", Karna said looking at his wives who nodded in agreement.
Karna left to meet Jarasandh immediately while his wives stayed to see the things going in Anga and make them better. Karna also send a letter to Hastinapura informing about the happenings in his kingdom as per his duty and asking about Kauravas and Pandavas.
Here, Bhishma grew his eyes wide. Just when he would think of Karna being worthy of being a kshatriya, he had to do something reckless like this.
"I need to leave for Anga, immediately", Bhishma announced. Kunti heard about Bhishma's departure and came to bid him farewell as the duty of a daughter in law. "You need to go suddenly? Pitahmah. The boys will look for you", she said. She was shocked that he was going somewhere else when they knew Kauravas were held captive. "Karna has challenged Jarasandh", Bhishma sighed heavily.
Kunti stumbled. "What? Is he crazy?" Kunti asked in tears.
Why Karn? Why do you trouble your mother like that? Why are you making me cry? She thought.
Bhishma chuckled. "Yes, he is", Bhishma agreed. "I sometimes doubt if he is really a charioteer's son. Feels like it's not what it seems to be", Bhishma muttered.
Kunti gulped hearing it.
