Chapter Forty Six
While everyone were resting, Karna's wives didn't wish to leave him and they were seated together in his chamber.
They were looking at the map.
Karna was telling them about all the kingdoms and the Kings in it.
"This is Avanti", he said as he pointed at it.
Urvi's chamber
Urvi was sitting on the bed.
She was remembering how Karna fought with those demons.
A big smile was playing on her lips.
The Varnavrat conspiracy was now going out of her mind and only his thoughts were replacing it. She didn't even know what was happening.
"What are you doing to me, Angraj?" She whispered. "You have made my mind a mess since the day you entered in my life", she added.
Next Morning
After getting ready, Karna proceeded to the royal court along with his wives.
He had learnt from a soldier that an important announcement had to be made regarding the future of the kingdom.
He was worried as now Yudhister was here, the king will choose him as he is loved by people and is the eldest. He didn't want Duryodhan to engage in any other war.
To be honest, he wanted Duryodhan to get the throne with full rights. Duryodhan was the eldest son of the present king so he didn't get the point of making Yudhister a king.
His father left the royal possessions by his own wish, so making his son, the king, sounded wrong in his eyes.
"Arya, what are you thinking?" Arundhati asked.
"About today's announcement. I don't want Duryodhan to be removed from crown Prince position, just because Yudhister returned", Karna muttered.
"I am sure the king would figure out some way", Kirti said. "There will be no injustice against anyone", she added.
Karna sighed.
Injustice was what happened in this society.
They reached the royal court where the Mandap was set up, yet again.
Karna sat at the groom's place and soon, Prakriti arrived.
The wedding rituals began and got completed as everybody showered flowers at the couple.
After the wedding was completed, the court proceedings began, following the clearance of the mandap. This took a while.
Karna's wives stood behind him.
Draupadi, too, stood with her husbands.
"Maharaj. Now that we have the ideal heir for the throne, both my rights and morals, I think it's time for Yudhister to be seated on the throne of the crown Prince", Bhishma said, smiling.
The Kauravas felt furious while Karna rolled his eyes.
"Duryodhan is already the crown Prince, Mahamahim. How can you remove him from the seat?" Karna asked.
"Your friend is simply not worthy of it", Bheem deadpanned.
"And you can decide that? You weren't even here", Dussahan scowled.
"These five brothers have a habit of deciding for everyone", Karna said sarcastically.
"Well. It's because of you we were not here, who told you to plan Varnavrat conspiracy?" Arjun asked.
"Conspiracy?" Shakuni stood up. "See Maharaj. After doing such an adharma, they are playing victims and blaming us for an accident", he said dramatically.
"I disagree with Bhrata Yudhister to be made the crown prince", Duryodhan said.
"One who has done this adharma of sharing a woman and is not even guilty about it, what image will he have in front of the people? Is he even worthy of being crowned as the future king?" Duryodhan asked.
"I told you that we fulfilled mother's orders. And, the marriage happened by my own choice", Draupadi said.
"The one who keeps relation with five men should be the last one to teach what is dharma and adharma", Duryodhan scoffed.
Draupadi felt her heart crack and anger filling in her veins hearing it.
"Bhrata Duryodhan!" Arjuna yelled in anger.
He picked his bow and marched in front of Duryodhan. He targeted an arrow, at him.
Everyone stood up while Kunti and Gandhari, Urvi along with wives of Kauravas gasped at the scene.
Karna rushed towards Duryodhana and stood in front of him.
Arjuna's arrow now targeted him as Karna's armour appeared.
Karn's wives and Urvi stared at him with concern.
"The one who insults Panchali will be beheaded, this is my oath", Arjun warned.
Draupadi felt her heart filled with happiness seeing her husband standing up for her.
"Arjun", Dhritrashtra yelled and stood up.
"I apologise oh king! But the one who bears the insult of his wife is a dead meat. Even Angraj fought with those demons just to protect the honour of his wives", Arjuna said.
"Stay silent, son of Pandu", Dhritrashtra said.
"For the crime of raising weapons in my court, I order death sentence upon you, oh, son of Indra", The king said.
Karna widened his eyes a little, hearing it.
"No. I rebel against your decision, oh king. Ignoring your eldest's harsh and insulting words for the pious and chaste woman, the daughter in law of your household, you ordered death sentence upon Partha, unfairly", Yudhister spoke, strongly.
"Because I agree with the words of Dhananjaya, an ideal man is supposed to protect the honour of his wife, like the great bowman Karna did. What fault my Anuj has here. If you are keen upon your decision, you should replace it with the call of war", Yudhister added.
"And I accept it", Duryodhan said confidently.
Rushing towards his seat, he held his mace, came back to stood beside Karna along with his one hundred brothers.
The three Pandavas also came in support of Yudhister and Arjun with their weapons in their hands.
Like a ferocious bull, Bheem strolled towards Duryodhan and showed his palm.
"Like five brahmastras, these five sons of Pandu will rise to fight for the dignity of their wife, Duryodhan", Bheem said in a promising tone.
"Mind your language", Bheem added.
Draupadi wiped her tears as she smiled at the protective behavior of her husbands.
Bhishma sighed heavily seeing Pandavas and Kauravas again standing in front of each other with Karna standing like the sun itself, in front of Duryodhan, protecting him.
"Enough!" Bhishma yelled and came downstairs.
He came in between the two fighting sides. "Always ready for war, you both groups are", he said in a dissappointed voice and glared at Duryodhan. "Insult of kulvadhu, unfairness with crown Prince and the call for war", he said. "Till when will your sons pollute the purity of the royal court of this mighty Kuru empire, oh king", Bhishma asked as he faced Dhritrashtra.
"Totally defeated by this unending rivalry between these two cousin groups, I confess that I don't have the strength and desire to stand in this royal court anymore", Bhishma said sadly and angrily.
He turned around and went from the court as all kept staring at his retreating figure.
"Oh king", Vidura stood up. The fear of something that shouldn't come true but is coming true, reflecting on his face.
"To protect the future of this powerful Kuru lineage, one whose might is known throughout and whose strength has remained undefeated since generations, I fear, the division of that land has become necessary now", Vidura declared, shocking everyone.
