Chapter Forty Seven
"I will discuss with Pitahmah and then take decision", Dhritrashtra said.
"There's no need for time", Vidura said.
"The more time taken, the more will be the chances of civil war in the kingdom. I would talk to Pitahmah on my own and request him to accept this decision for the wellbeing of everyone", Vidura said.
The court got commenced.
Karn's chamber
"Arya", Prakriti asked. "Won't the division of the kingdom break unity among the people?" She asked.
Karn sighed.
"In this Kingdom, unity is the thing that can be possible by division only. Hence, the decision taken is preferable over these cousins living together. They have hated each other since childhood and I don't think even I can be at peace with Arjun in the same kingdom", Karna said.
"I believe that Duryodhan is the rightful king because he's the one that doesn't believe in the societal norms", Karna said.
"Angraj"
They heard and saw Urvi, pale with fear and crying.
"What happened?" Karna asked concerned and picked his bow.
"The Princes are again fighting and these hundred have surrounded the five Pandavas", Urvi said.
They all rushed towards that area of the foyer.
"You are the sons of the a Sanyasi, yet, you try to claim rights over my throne", Duryodhan said angrily. He had his mace in his hand.
"You are the son of the present king doesn't mean you are worthy of being a king", Arjun roared. "The actual Rajya abhishek happened for our father", Arjun said.
Karna rushed in front.
"Mitra. The decision is to be taken tomorrow. Stop it", Karna said.
"No Mitra. They need to be reminded their place", Duryodhan said.
"Mahamahim already went in anger, Duryodhan", Karna said calmly. "For reminding these five, their places, you don't need to come in bad books of him. Behave practically, right now", Karna insisted.
"Ha! You need to remind your friend that being a charioteer's son, he shouldn't interfere in royal matters", Bheem laughed.
"At least, I have been given a kingdom for my skills. I didn't ask for it. Unlike you, who are asking for it despite being sons of someone who left the royal luxuries and went in forest", Karna snapped back.
"Angraj!" Arjun yelled.
Karna raised his bow as Arjun targeted the arrow at him.
"Stop it", Bhishma said, appearing there.
"Stop fighting. How many times will you fight? You have made the palace a battlefield. I am really disappointed with you all", Bhishma shouted in anger.
The Princes and Karna kept their weapons back.
"Pitahmah", Draupadi said but Bhishma showed his palm, stopping her.
No one could decrease his anger now.
"You are saying right, Vidura. We need to divide the kingdom now", Bhishma said painfully as Vidura looked down.
Shakuni who was there, smiled evilly.
"Tomorrow itself, the kingdom will be divided and Pandu putras will be send", he declared.
But, tears welled up in his eyes.
Seeing that, Pandavas and Draupadi felt ashamed of whatever happened, despite being faultless, they looked down.
Bhishma wasn't able to stand there anymore, so he turned around and went, followed by Vidura.
Pandavas glared at Duryodhan and Karna and went with Panchali.
"Calm down. Everything will be in our favour", Karna said slowly, looking at Duryodhan who nodded.
They dispersed as well.
Next Day, Court
All were gathered in the court and waiting for Pandavas and Panchali.
Soon, the five Pandavas came with Draupadi.
Yudhister was in white clothes, which were for the Rajya Abhishek.
"Pranaam, Maharaj", the six said together.
Dhritrashtra nodded at them.
The Rajya Abhishek began.
Karna looked at Shakuni and Duryodhan who were smirking. They had definitely planned something.
Karna remembered that Duryodhan told him it will be a surprise.
And he will like it.
Karna wondered that what surprise it might be.
The Rajya Abhishek got completed and Yudhister was given the crown.
"Putra. I will be giving you Khandavprastha for your kingdom", Dhritrashtra said.
Karna felt weird.
Khandavprastha? Seriously?
It was a really barren land. A hut couldn't be set up on it, palace was a far away thing.
"We accept your decision, maharaj", Yudhister said.
Karna sighed.
"I have one more request", Dhritrashtra told the Pandavas. "As Kunti is the daughter in law of this house, her home is Hastinapura itself. I want her to stay here only", He ordered.
Pandavas were taken aback hearing it.
Karna looked at Kunti to see she was in tears.
"Wherever her sons go, even that will be her home only", Arjun argued. "On what basis are you separating our mother from us?" He asked.
"Husband's house is the home of a woman, putr. Not any other. Yudhister, don't you agree? You know about dharma well", He said.
Yudhister gulped.
"M-mata", he stuttered.
Draupadi and Pandavas looked at Kunti with pale faces.
Kunti sighed and came downstairs. She stood beside Arjun as she faced Dhritrashtra.
"I agree with whatever you say, bhratashree", she said, even though her voice cracked. "I will reside in the palace where my husband brought me", she said.
Karna felt his heart clench seeing her crying. He couldn't even imagine a mother sending her sons away and being so helpless in front of situations.
Thank God, he was not having fate of Pandavas to be abandoned by their mother and see her so helpless.
"Mata, We are taking you", Arjun protested. "Yes. We are not going anywhere without you", Bheem agreed. Nakul and Sahdev held her hands and kneeled down in front of her, keeping her hands on their hairs.
Yudhister had tears in his eyes.
"This is my order", Kunti said strongly.
Pandavas got weakened hearing it. They had no concern about crying in front of their evil cousins.
"And I refuse to obey it", Draupadi said, matching the strength of Kunti's voice. She went in front of Dhritrashtra.
"The Pandavas are the sons of that Maharaja Pandu, referring to whom, you are trying to stop our mother from leaving the kingdom, Maharaja Dhritrashtra. So, how can she leave them? Their father have given the responsibility of their safety to her and you are not stopping her", Draupadi said.
"You have given us a barren land, yet we do not argue. But, oh king! What type of justice is this? Mother is regarded above gods in our scriptures and for such an important task as of building a kingdom on an infertile land, you dare to seperate the mother from these five boys. How can you be so cruel?" She asked.
"After her husband's death, her sons get her responsibility and she has her duties towards them. Then what basis are you even giving for her to stay here? Is this code of conduct justified?" She asked further.
Everyone were silent knowing she was saying correct.
