Chapter Forty

"I know what I did was wrong but I was just...I was just standing with my friend, the one who supported me when everyone...everyone rejected me", Karna said.

"I understand your emotions, son. But, I fail to understand the extent of your indebtedness that you are starting to forget what is dharma and adharma", Adhirath scolded.

"Trust me, baba. I will never forget it. But, please don't stay angry with me, I can't bear it", Karna said.

Adhirath sighed.

"Please", he pleaded. Adhirath sighed and nodded. "Just remember to do what is right", he said.

Karna nodded and Adhirath stood up. Karna hugged him and Adhirath sighed and hugged him back.

Relieved to have his son safe in front of him.

"Come, we should eat food", Adhirath said. Karna followed him and rambled about his adventures till now. Adhirath listened to him smiling.

"Tomorrow Duryodhan is being crowned as a king", Karna said as they sat down to eat.

"King?" Adhirath asked as he and Radha glanced at each other.

"That means you will have to leave tomorrow", Radha complained and tears welled up in her eyes. She hated staying away from her son.

"Mata", Karna said and went in front of her. He held her hand and kept his forehead on it.

He closed his eyes.

"I will come back soon", Karn promised.

Radha nodded half heartedly. "You should eat food now. I wonder if you even take care of yourself in the palace", Radha said.

"Maharani and Maharaj are very caring, Mata. You don't need to worry", Karna said, smiling.

"It's late. You should sleep", Radha said and Karna nodded.

The house of Karna was not big. But, it had two parts. Radha and Adhirath went to sleep on the cots and Karna and his wives spread mattresses on the other part of the wall, ready to sleep.

Karna and Vrushali noticed, only smiles on the faces of other Queens. It made them emotional.

Seemed like the world could really change.

Same outfit, different colours

(Vrushali- Yellow, Kirti- Pink, Supriya- Orange, Arundhati- Purple, Abhilasha- Red, Esha- Brown, Kalyani- Blue)

His wives wore what charioteer women wore. They had removed all royal accessories. They didn't want anyone to get uncomfortable seeing them lad in jewellery.

Karna laid down in the middle with Kirti, Abhilasha, Vrushali, Kalyani on one side while Esha, Arundhati, Supriya on other side.

Karna had laid his hands. Kirti and Esha got much closer to him, hugging him. Behind Kirti, Abhilasha and Vrushali laid on his hand. Kalyani kept her head on his palm. Behind Esha, Arundhati and Supriya laid on his hand.

"I had one brother", Karna said suddenly.

Vrushali closed her eyes hearing it.

His other wives stared at him.

"His name was Shon. He was the light of my life. When I thought archery was not the thing I could do with my desire, Shon was the only reason, I wanted to live for. To look after him, keep him away from all troubles but...I only became the reason of his death", Karna gulped.

"Arya", his wives whispered.

"Karn", Vrushali whispered along.

"He disturbed a Yagya and the angry sages reached the court. They made my brother swallow molten gold in front of me. I couldn't do a thing", he said as tears welled up in his eyes.

"Maybe that's why I don't like doing Puja that much. I love to do it by heart but not this show off like these sages do. What's the use of it when you are killing an innocent teenager? When you are keeping him deprived from learning vedas? God is for everyone right?" Karna asked.

"Puja should mean getting lost in God. Then why do people start claiming rights on him?" Karna asked.

"Instead of becoming kind, spreading love and knowledge, why do they become so merciless that they don't hesitate in killing someone? Why do they name it dharma? Why do they take God's right by snatching someone's life? Shouldn't they be inferior to God and let the decision rest on him? If Karma is bad, it will return. Why do you need to...need to kill a child for it?" He asked.

And his seven wives had no answer for his innocent questions.

"What was even his fault?" Karna added.

"It was God only who gave him in a charioteer's family. Then why?" Karna asked again.

"My father once told me, Arya", Arundhati said. "That people have started doing bad things and decreasing the life span, yug by yug. They don't do Puja for wellbeing of themselves and the world. They do it just for their satisfaction that they did it. They are still stuck in worldly possessions and egocentrism. But, they never receive God. No matter what, Karma hits back. And, unfortunately, even if you struggle your whole life, this caste thing may change but the next generations will be worse by worse", Arundhati said.

"Until the end of the world", she added.

"And every Yug will have Mahabharata in different forms. There will be a struggle for dharma to win against adharma where relations, love and soul will be sacrificed. It will continue till the end of the world. The upcoming war will be an example of a war, full of politics, emotions and morals that need to win, this tale will not only be an ideal of how you should be but majorly of how you should not be", Krishna said, smiling and sitting on the swing. "And you will the most complex and important part of this, Angraj Karna", he added.

Karna deeply sighed.

"Stop scaring", he chuckled trying to lighten the environment. They laughed slowly afterwards.

"I think we should sleep. We need to leave early tomorrow", Karna said.

His wives nodded and they slept soundly.

Next Day

Karna was ready to leave with his wives.

They set out for Hastinapura and reached there by perfect time as they had started in Early morning.

As Karna helped his wives get down from the palanquin, he heard another chariot's sound and looked back to see it was Urvi's.

(Urvi's outfit)

She looked really pale.

"Maharaj, princess is really ill", The soldier informed him because he saw him first.

He was worried for the Princess.

Karna got really worried. "Urvi...can you walk?" Karna asked. She didn't respond back and was looking really lifeless and terribly sick.

Karna pulled her in his arms, hesitantly. He ran towards the palace stairs with his wives going slowly, handling their dresses.

He ran towards his chamber and made her lie on it.

"Call the Doctor, fast", Karna ordered.

Urvi's forehead was boiling.

His wives came inside worriedly. The doctor came too and started checking on her.

"Excessive avoidance of food and water. It has affected her severely due to the climate change. She needs to eat and rest for maximum three days. And, I am telling the maids some medicines, she needs to take", the doctor said.

Karna nodded.

"The Pandavas will never return Urvi. Please stop torturing yourself over it. You didn't even had a fault in that", Karna said.

Here, Pandavas set for Hastinapura with their wife and Kunti.
