Chapter Eleven
When he reached there, he met Arjun.
To the surprise of Pandavas, he avoided them and tried to pass to reach Duryodhana as soon as possible. "He's fine. He has stopped destroying his room", Arjun said. Karna turned around. "You know what he was doing?" He asked now fearing the reason even more.
"Yes. Jyesht is announced the crown Prince of the kingdom", Arjuna replied. Karna widened his eyes. "What?" He asked. "Why? You're not happy. Oh, right. Your friend is not the crown Prince but trust me, he doesn't even deserve to be one", Arjuna said.
"You are no one to decide that", Karna said irritated. "Besides, I don't support this at all as Yudhister has already lost all the respect in my eyes since the day he stayed silent at my brother's brutal murder", Karna said further. "Excuse me. I need to go and check on Duryodhana", he said.
Without awaiting any reply, he went in a rushed pace to Duryodhan's room. "Mitr", he said and opened the door. He found Duryodhana sitting on his bed and a glass in his hand. He found two big jars and came closer to see them empty. Karna worried looked beside him.
Duryodhana was badly drunk!
"Mitr", Karna shook him and took the glass. "Are you alright?" Karna asked. Duryodhana started chucking. "Yes...Yes. I am fine", Duryodhana muttered. "Are you sure?" Karna asked. Duryodhana growled and pushed him away making him stumble.
"I said I am fine", he shouted as Karna looked at him, shocked. "Oh sorry, sorry, mitr. I didn't mean to hurt you", Duryodhan said in a sad voice. Karna came closer and held his shoulders. "What's wrong?" He asked softly, instead of appearing angry for the push.
Tears came out of Duryodhana's eyes and Karna pulled him in a hug immediately as Duryodhana started crying. "Why? Why? Why he became the crown Prince?" Duryodhana asked. "What are you talking about?" Karna asked, tensed.
Duryodhana pulled away and sat on the bed as Karna kneeled in front of him. "Yudhister. He became the crown Prince", Duryodhana sobbed. Karna looked at him sadly.
"How?" Karna asked.
"Pitashree had given a promise that whoever gives dakshina will be the king. Maybe he thought that you would accompany me and I will be the crown Prince", Duryodhana sobbed quietly.
"I shouldn't have gone to Anga leaving you", Karna whispered. "That was important. I understand", Duryodhana whispered.
"But, he's not the king yet. You can prove to people, you are a worthy king and crown will be given to you", Karna said. "He's really best. Everyone will want him to be the king", Duryodhan argued. Karna got annoyed. "They will obviously want him as you don't have any trust on your capabilities. First, learn to trust yourself and then we will talk", Karna said.
In Kalinga
"I stole the guests list", Urvi giggled. "What?" Supriya asked. "Maharaj will be angry", she said. Bhanumati rolled her eyes. "You're no fun, Supriya. Shut up and see the names. Choose one for yourself too", Bhanumati said.
Supriya made a face. "Nope. I am not marrying yet", Supriya said. "You never know", Bhanumati shrugged. "I am quite clear about my decision", Supriya said.
"We'll see", Bhanumati teased her.
In Hastinapura
"Is he alright?" Gandhari asked. "Yes", Karna replied. "Don't worry mata", Karna said further. He smiled at her. "I understand how scary it is seeing your son like that. I have talked with him. Though, I would suggest you to go in a while", Karna said.
"Sure. Thank you son", Gandhari said affectionately. "Have you eaten something?" Gandhari asked. Karna gave a sheepish smile. "I was too busy in the works of Anga so I couldn't...ow!" He exclaimed in pain as Gandhari held his ear. "You are not avoiding food, again", Gandhari scolded.
"Yes...Yes. But if you pull my ear too much, it will fall down and I don't have one for spare use", Karna whined. He understood Gandhari as his own mother and loved getting his ear pulled by her as his parents were not in the palace with him.
"Come now", Gandhari said leaving his ear. He smiled big at her and nodded. He saw Kunti with Pandavas there. Pandavas had unbelievable expressions but they were smiling a little at what they saw. Kunti had an expression that he couldn't decipher but he felt she was looking at him with longing in her eyes.
He went towards her. "You remember how you fed me back at the forest?" He asked and Kunti nodded, smiling at him. "Nothing replaced that memory from my mind. You can feed me even now, mata", he said. Kunti looked at him. "I mean, Raj-mata", he corrected.
Kunti felt dejected by how he corrected himself but she knew that he was not at fault. He wasn't even aware of his true lineage and was living in some low caste house when he should be the one wearing the crown.
"I need to go now before Gandhari Mata again comes scolding me", Karna said and passed a glare to the five before he moved ahead. Kunti kept looking at his way.
"When did you meet him for the first time, mata?" Bheem asked. "When he was seven years old", Kunti whispered. "He was a little ball of sunshine in my life", she said further. "Your father had gotten the curse of not taking his marriage to next level. I thought that I will remain childless forever. And, he came. I felt that I was a mother. He was the first one to let me experience that feeling", she cried. Pandavas looked at their mother sadly.
How much their parents suffered!
"I didn't wish to send him back. I wanted to keep him with me but a young child like him obviously would want his mother", Kunti clenched her fists. He would want someone who is not his mother leaving the one who is his mother actually. "So I had to send him back", she said.
"However, we met again when your father and Madri...", she gulped. Nakul and Sahdev clenched their jaws to control their tears. "Believe me, I felt the same love and joy seeing him again, no matter, I had my five sons with me", Kunti said. "I couldn't stop him even then", she said. "And, this time, I feel even more joyful seeing him in front of me. I can't stop adoring him", she laughed painfully.
"I am glad that he gave you that experience, mata", Arjuna said quietly. "But, I don't feel he's what he seems to be", Arjuna said further. "Truely. He's not what he seems to be", Kunti said in agreement, indicating to the meaning, Pandavas will never understand.
Meanwhile, Karna smiled big as Gandhari served him more food. "Eat and fill your stomach completely. You have my stubborn son to handle afterwards", Gandhari joked. Karna laughed. "I agree. He can be a headache sometimes but I still love him. He's still the child from heart that everyone loose when they grow big. The precious one", Karna explained.
Unaware that he felt totally opposite to what Duryodhana was. As, Varnavrat conspiracy was coming ahead.
