Chapter Eight
The Princes and Karna left for Panchal.
In between, a messenger stopped them. "Sorry for following you but it's an urgent message, Kumar", Messenger said.
"What is it?" Yudhister asked. "Kumar, Ang-desh is in trouble with Magadh king Jaydrath. Maharaja has sent me to inform about it. Ang Raj needs to leave for his kingdom immediately", he replied. Duryodhana widened his eyes.
Karna felt troubled. He started thinking of ways to convince Duryodhana. He couldn't neglect his kingdom. But, as a sane man, he was also worried. King Drupad was really strong and he was not sure, if he should leave Duryodhana alone. He knew the cold blood between these cousins. He was stuck now.
Somewhere, he also knew, he was going to get pissed in this nonsense enmity between these cousins, for no reason.
"Mitr. I suggest you leave for your Kingdom, immediately", Duryodhana said. Karna hesitated. "L-leave you alone?" He stuttered. Duryodhana smiled. "I know you are worried and I know why. But, for your dreams to come true, you need to prove you're worthy of being the king and that is not possible if you don't go to your Kingdom. I will be fine", he assured.
Karna nodded. "Take care and don't hesitate to call me when you need me. I will be faster than wind and reach you", he said. Duryodhan pulled Karna in a hug and Karna got down from his chariot.
"Angraj, I understand your worry", Bheem said. Karna stopped. "After all, all Duryodhana can be, is your minion, hiding behind you as he has no capabilities of being a king or a warrior", Bheem laughed. Since the murder attempt on him in childhood, Pandavas had hated Kauravas. Yudhister kept his calm but the other four didn't and spoke. Bheem was the most aggressive among all as he had been the victim.
Karna clenched his jaw. "Or should I say, it's the other way round, it's you who got the throne in charity after all", Bheem said. Karna looked at him and had his eyes red in anger. "When I will clear all troubles of my land, then, I will answer you. Unlike you, I don't speak and prove my abilities by my actions", Karna said.
"All the best for the war, all of you. Arjun, make sure, you're safe as our duel is still left and it's my right to have this fight with you, after all, our enmity needs to come to a result", Karna smirked. Arjuna smirked back. "I am more desperate than you for this duel, Angraj. And, don't worry, I will be safe and we will have that battle", he said.
"Bheem. Don't question the abilities of my friend. Instead of chanting about dharma all day and seeing an innocent boy getting killed, he actually noticed the skills of a person and made him the king. He's far better than your elder brother. If Dharma only makes you cause adharm or stay silent when it's happening, it brings destruction. Trust my words, one day, your obsession with your dharm will cause you five", Karna said seriously and giving them odd looks, one last time, departed for his kingdom.
"He's wiser than you. I will still agree to him being the king instead of you useless brothers", Duryodhana smirked. Arjun tried to say something but Yudhister held his hand and stopped him from speaking further.
They started their journey to Panchal.
Karna returned back to the kingdom. "Scared? Angraj", Dronacharya said feeling pride on Arjun. "No", Karna rolled his eyes. "I was called back as Ang is in trouble. I am not scared of anyone", Karna said. "And, even if I had to face defeat, I would have still tried to the best of my abilities. Saying no to any challenge is not my spirit", he said further.
Bhishma smiled lightly. Karna's words always made him amused. He was really wise and capable of being a worthy king. If he wasn't a charioteer's son and belonged to kshatriya clan, Bhishma would have made him the king with pride and happiness.
Karna frowned as Bhishma looked at him intently. "Any problem? Mahamahim?" He asked. Bhishma shook his head. "So you should depart immediately for your Kingdom", Bhishma said.
"I am here to take my wives. I am sure they would love to go and see their kingdom", Karna said. He went ahead.
Bhishma smiled to himself. He prayed Karna doesn't support Duryodhana. The kind of man, he seemed to be, Bhishma wanted him to support Pandavas.
Karna went to his room and saw his wives sadly looking at his belongings. A huge smile came on his face. "Look who's here?" He said. His wives looked up and big smiles broke out on their faces.
"Arya" "Karn"
Kirti and Vrushali said happily and rushed towards him. He pulled them in a hug and they smiling, rested their heads on his chest. "You returned so soon?" Vrushali asked. "Yeah", Karna sighed. "I didn't go to the war", he said. His wives looked up, shocked.
"Why?" Kirti asked. "Well...", Karna explained them everything that happened.
"We should leave immediately, Arya. Our people are in danger", Kirti said. Karna nodded in agreement. The trio left their room. They met Kunti on the way.
"Karn?" Kunti asked surprised. "Why are you here, putr? You should be with the other boys right now", she said. "I was with them, Raj-mata. But...", Karna told her the reason for his coming back. Kunti took a deep breath. Secretly, she was happy. After seeing her son after a long time, she didn't desire to send him to a war with the most deadliest king of Aryavarth.
"My blessings are with you, putr. Leave for Anga, immediately. And take care you three", she said. The trio smiled and took her blessings. They left for their work.
Karn helped his wives on the chariot. He got on it and started his journey. "Arya, why are you smiling so much?" Kirti asked happily. She loved his smile. Karna sighed. "I really feel so happy whenever I meet mata Kunti. She doesn't let me miss my mother. I just feel as if there's a natural connection between us", he said.
"But she's mother of your enemies", Kirti said. Vrushali and Karn looked at her. "Well...mother is a mother. No matter friends or Enemies. Isn't it?" Karna asked. "Next week, I need to attend the swayamvar of Kalinga princess, Bhanumati", he told his wives.
"A-arya?" Kirti asked. "Nope. I am not participating. Duryodhana wants to marry her", Karna said. "Karn", Vrushali said slowly. "Please remember that it will be Bhanumati's choice who she wants to marry", Vrushali said knowing Karna would do anything for his friend.
"And for Kumar Duryodhan's wish to be fulfilled, she needs to choose Duryodhana for it. Otherwise, she will marry who she desires to marry", Kirti continued.
Karna knew what his wives were indicating it. "Then I pray", Karna said in a disturbed tone. "That she chooses Duryodhana only", he whispered and sighed as he could do nothing and go against his friend.
