JAMES TAYLOR

As expected, Angel had gotten in trouble after Klaus finally had Kol under control and was forbidden from leaving her room, not that it stopped Angel. Every evening, when she knew the other vampires in the house were busy sucking the blood of innocent villagers, she found a way to sneak out of her room using the hidden passageway that ran past her room.

With her freedom, Angel did what she always did, which was to make her way down to the neighboring village. She made sure to stay as quiet as a mouse until reaching the village late at night, which was often filled with rowdy drunks and loud music. A small smile graced her lips as she passed by several men heading into the taverns and found herself entering the small tavern near the edge of the village.

Angel was hit with the strong smell of beer and cigars as she stepped foot inside the tavern, making her way past the rowdy customers to the corner of the room. She sunk into her seat, watching with mesmerizing eyes as men cheered, gambled, and drank more with their friends without a single care in the world.

She sighed, a small smile on her face, as she glanced around the tavern in envy. Angel wondered what it would be like to be as free and careless as the villagers but quickly shook the thought from her head, knowing her life could never be normal with a vampire father in the mix.

"Would you like a cup of water, milady?" A young tavern girl questioned Angel, pulling her attention from observing the village men.

"Some rum, please," Angel asked the younger girl with a smile.

It was odd for a young woman of obvious upper class to drink at such a tavern, Angel knew that, but while the tavern girl raised her eyebrow at the choice, she didn't comment on it as she went to fetch Angel's drink. Angel was grateful for the girl's discretionary as her eyes traveled back over the drunk men, growing rowdier by the second as they laughed, drank, and played silly games with their friends.

Angel only tore her eyes away long enough to give the tavern girl a grateful grin as she returned with her drink and made sure to give her a silver coin, far more than enough for one measly mug of rum. Angel took a small swing of rum, ignoring the way it burned in the back of her throat as she watched one of the older men fall off the table, drunk out of his mind and barely able to stand back up.

In the corner of her eye, Angel noticed a man sitting across from her seat, making himself quite comfortable much to her dismay. He opened his mouth, presumably to flirt, but was curtly cut off.

"Not interested," Angel told the man before he had a chance to utter a single sound, taking a small sip of her drink before setting it back down and continuing to look past him without a second glance.

"You don't even know what I was going to say," the man smirked, amused at Angel's attitude as she finally bothered to look at the man seated across from her.

He was handsome - Angel would give him that much. With dark wild curls and striking ocean eyes, it was no wonder he was able to sit across from Angel so confidently with a victorious glint in his eyes. Despite his arrogance, Angel hated to admit he was exactly her type.

"Let me take a guess," Angel leaned forward with an amused, wild glint in her eyes as they scanned over the man before her. "What's a pretty lady like yourself doing in a measly tavern by herself? Or was it, a little lady shouldn't be alone at this hour, let me show you a good time? I have more if you'd like me to go on?"

It was silent for a few moments, the man's eyes darting over Angel's face before he threw his head back and laughed.

"I see you've been through this many times before," he chuckled as Angel found herself blushing under his gaze.

"Far too many I'm afraid," Angel admitted with a small shrug as she took another sip of her drink.

"Well, I wasn't going to say any of those horrific lines," he defended himself before adding, "Although I'm not too sure mine would be any better."

"Trust me, I've heard it all," Angel told him with a shrug before finishing off her drink. Giving her a grin, the man waved town the tavern girl.

"Another mug of rum for the young lady," he ordered as the girl quickly went and returned with another filled mug, setting it down in front of Angel whose smile had quickly disappeared.

"I'm afraid if your plan is to get me drunk enough so you can take advantage," Angel drawled out in annoyance, pushing the mug roughly towards him. "You're out of luck."

"My lady thinks too little of me," the man chuckled as he took the mug into his own hands. "But if you refuse, I suppose it's more good alcohol for me."

Angel raised an eyebrow in amusement as the man in front of her chugged the entire mug in one swing before slamming the mug back onto the table and signaling for the tavern girl to grab him another.

"You'll be too drunk to walk if you keep drinking like that," Angel commented as he chugged another mug of rum, although she was having a hard time keeping a smile off her face. "Perhaps you should slow down."

"Ah, yes, but I'll be a happy drunk," the man replied with a grin as the girl brought him another drink. "With a very pretty lady in front of me."

Angel rolled her eyes at the compliment as she waved down the tavern girl to bring her another drink.

"Allow me," the man interrupted when Angel went to pay the girl, taking out his own bag of coins and handing it to her.

"What a gentleman," Angel teased as she took a swing of her own drink.

"Well, I didn't do it for nothing," the man smirked. "Do I get a name for buying my lady a drink?"

"I suppose it's the least I can do," Angel smiled. "Angel Knight."

"Of course it is," the man laughed at Angel's offended face as he explained, "A pretty name for a beautiful woman."

Angel rolled her eyes at the man's words but couldn't stop the fluttering in her stomach at his words.

"And what, pray tell, is your name?" Angel asked with a curious gaze.

"James Taylor," James finally introduced himself with a confident smirk, waiting for her reaction.

"I see," Angel smirked as she took another swing and waved down the girl for another drink.

"That's all I get?" James questioned incredulously, expecting more than two words.

"That's all you get," Angel nodded her head with a teasing gaze.

James chuckled at the girl as they both ordered more drinks. Several hours later, Angel couldn't remember how many drinks she had as both of them staggered out of the tavern. James tripped forward, almost face-planting on the gravel if not for Angel reaching out to steady him. The brunette threw his arm over her shoulder as she began walking him back to the Inn he was staying at.

"Gods you're heavy," Angel grunted as they made their way through the village, struggling to walk in a straight line as they were both drunk beyond their limits. James mumbled several incoherent words as they made it to the Inn and Angel struggled to help him up the stairs. When they made it to the top, Angel sighed at the many doors lining the hallway. "Which room did you say you were again?"

Angel ducked as James swung his hand out, holding up two fingers as Angel resisted the urge to roll her eyes. She fumbled through his jacket until finding the keys to his room and unlocked the door while James leaned against the wall for support.

"Come on," Angel wrapped his arm around her shoulder as she dragged him into the room, letting out a sigh of relief as she threw him onto his bed and plopped down next to him to catch her breath. "Oh, thank the gods."

When she had composed herself, at least as much as she could in her drunken state, Angel stumbled onto her feet to leave, but was stopped by James sitting up and grabbing her arm. Obviously still drunk but more aware than he had been several minutes ago, he pulled her forward until he was straddling her between his legs.

"Don't go," James muttered as he wrapped his arms around her waist and rested his head against her stomach.

"James," Angel muttered as she drunkenly tried to push away from him. "I need to go."

Neither of them said anything as James lifted his blue eyes to gaze at her, the two frozen in the moment until Angel found herself leaning forward until their lips smashed together. Her hands reached up as they became tangled in his hair and her body perfectly molded into his as she deepened the kiss. James hastily began untying the back of her dress, the complicated knots serving as no challenge for him as he quickly undid them and began pulling down her dress and exposing her shoulders when-

"Wait," Angel pulled away from the kiss, her hands on his chest as she gasped for air. "We're drunk."

"That's the best part," James smirked as he pulled Angel down into the bed, a soft giggle escaping her lips as she allowed herself to relax into his embrace.
