Game of Drones
- Chapter Thirteen -
You were sitting in the blue chair across from Bree who had been on her laptop. You smiled slightly as your phone buzzed, receiving another message.
So you're telling me you didn't dress up as Steve for Halloween?
You rolled your eyes as you replied.
No. After all, what is Steve without Bucky?
You then looked up to see Chase lurking over Bree's shoulder, which had annoyed her very quickly. "Chase, why are you lurking over my shoulder? Do you not have anything better to do?"
"Would I be reading your private emails if I had anything better to do?" Chase asked, walking around the couch to sit besides Bree. "By the way, typo, third line down."
Bree then shut her laptop as Skylar came out of the Hydro-lift. "Hey [Name], Bree, want to get a frozen yogurt?"
"Absolutely!" Chase exclaimed, jumping straight up from his seat.
"She was talking to us." Bree referred to herself and you, as you both stood up.
"Why can't I go, too?" Chase asked.
"Because you'll make us get sugar-free." Bree explained. "Why are you being so needy?"
"Ever since I stopped being mission leader, I've been so bored." Chase admitted. "It's amazing how much time you have on your hands when you're not telling everyone else what to do."
"Maybe you need a hobby." Skylar suggested. "What do you enjoy?"
"Telling everyone else what to do." Chase smiled.
You smiled in amusement as Skylar patted his shoulder. "Later, Chase."
With that, you girls had walked out.
~~~~~
As Skylar went to find a table for you three, you and Bree went to go order. Once it was your turn, the lady behind the counter had smiled. "What can I get for you ladies?"
"Um, I'll have a Strawberry Swirl and Vanilla." Bree smiled at the lady.
"And I'll have a [favorite flavor]." You smiled politely.
Once she had typed up the orders and cost, Bree had given her the money and she had smiled. "Can I just say, you two make a lovely couple."
You shook your head. "Actually--"
"Thank you so much." Bree cut you off, smiling at the lady before dragging you off.
"What was that for?" You asked Bree, as you both walked over to Skylar who was sitting at a table.
"Look, it's not a big deal. Plus, it's just going to make things more complicated and she would get embarrassed." Bree explained, pulling out her chair once you reached the table.
"Whatever." You mumbled, sitting down as well.
After getting frozen yogurt, Bree and Skylar wanted to go shopping so after hitting a few stores, you three had headed back to the penthouse....where Perry was sitting on the couch.
"Sup chicas." Perry greeted once you all walked in.
"Perry, how did you get in here?" Bree asked.
"You'd be surprised the places you can go through an air conditioning duct." Perry explained, as you leaned against the back of the couch to see all kinds of books lying around.
"What's all this, Perry?" You motioned to all the books.
"My old family photo albums." Perry replied as Skylar sat down, holding an album as you sat on the headrest of the couch to look as well.
"Decided to dust 'em off now that I'm back in my hometown." Perry stated as Skylar flipped a page.
"Who's this on the tightrope?" Skylar asked, pointing to the woman in the picture.
"Aunt Barbara." Perry answered. "This may surprise you, but we Perry are circus folks."
"You don't say?" Bree commented, not all that surprised.
"It's true. The women in my family were all talented wire walkers." Perry stated. "I come from a long line of 'em. Look." You looked down to see a black and white photo of a woman on a tightrope that had looked dead on like Perry.
"This is so cool." Skylar smiled, holding up the album so Bree could see as she walked over.
"Yeah, but they all fell attempting the hardest walk of all...between two skyscrapers." Perry explained. "Well, technically my Grandma Gertie didn't fall. She was pushed by Grandpa George. All the women in my family were trailblazers, but I've never done anything that mattered."
"Come on, that can't be true." Skylar patted Perry's knee in comfort.
"It is. You wouldn't understand because you have all these amazing super powers." Perry stated as she turned to Bree. "And you, you know what kind of amazing super powers Skylar has." After a moment, Perry had shook her head. "You know what?" She then had stood and walked around the couch. "I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna finish the walk."
"Yes. I love it!" Skylar smiled.
"No, you don't." Bree stated as she stood and walked over to Perry. "This is probably the worst idea you ever had, and you have had a lot of very bad ideas."
"I know, but this is one of my best bad ideas." Perry acknowledged. "All I have to do is walk, and I've been doing that since I was eight."
"Not on a high wire between two skyscrapers." Bree told her. "Trust me, this will not end well. You do not have what it takes."
"Yes, I do. And you know what? I'm gonna prove it to you." Perry retorted. "I'm gonna go online right now and find the cheapest tightrope money can buy." Perry explained, running to the corner desk.
"Oh, [Name]. Tell her she's wrong." Bree begged, motioning to Perry.
"I am not getting into this arguement." You shook your head as she groaned.
~~~~~
As the day wore on, you and Bree had stepped out on the terrance, to see Perry in a ridiculous pink and purple clown outfit that made you cringe inwardly.
"What is that?" Bree asked, referring to her outfit.
"That is a gently used sixteen dollar tightrope." Perry answered, not getting what Bree was really asking.
"So you're really going through with this?" Bree asked, walking closer to Perry. "You haven't even practiced."
"I practiced." Perry confirmed. "I just walked here from my apartment. I only fell twice." Perry smiled proudly.
"Okay, Perry, listen to me." Bree demanded, grasping her shoulders. "If you do this, you're gonna die. And for some reason, that actually upsets me."
"I get it. You're obessed with me. You don't have to be so creepy about it. Eww." Perry shoved Bree's hands off, continuing to talk as Skylar walked up to you all. "All I have to do is walk to the other side and back. Before you know it, I'll be the pride of the Perry family."
"You are so brave." Skylar smiled at Perry.
"Tell me something I don't know." Perry smiled.
"I have microscopic vision, and there is an alarming amount of insects living in your hair." Skylar told Perry.
"Again, tell me something I don't know." Perry continued smiling.
"That's disgusting." You scrunched your nose in disgust.
As Perry made her way up onto the tightrope and began to walk, you couldn't help but pace on the terrance, keeping an eye out for Perry. You couldn't help but worry about Perry. Yes, she was a psychopath, and yes she was crazy, but you were worried about her.
You would never admit it to anyone else but you cared about Perry.
'Eh, just let her fall.'
'Don't let her fall. Do not.'
Bree and Skylar had stood side by side as they had watched Perry walk.
"Keep it up. You're doing great!" Skylar complimented Perry.
Then, all of a sudden, a drone had flew by Perry, making her loose her footing and fall. Luckily, she was able to hang from the rope.
"Are you okay?" Skylar asked her worriedly.
"I think so." Perry exhaled. "Although, my tights might tell a different story."
"Don't panic, Terry. I'm gonna fly up and come get you." Skylar informed, jumping onto the ledge just as the drone flew by and shot her, making her fly back on the terrance.
By that time you already had thrown off your shoes and made your way up the latter to get to the tightrope. You had blocked out Perry's and Bree's voices as you closed your eyes and taken a deep breath.
"Okay, come on. You did this a hundred times before. What's one more try?" You exhaled, opening your eyes.
You then began to walk, arms held out horizontally, placing one foot in front of the other. Instantly, you began walking with ease. You then felt Bree walking behind you, and before you could tell her to go back, the drone had flew and shot at her, making her do a backflip.
This made the tightrope wobble and made you lose your concentration, making you lose your footing. Luckily with fast reflexes, you had grabbed the tightrope, now hanging beside Perry's right.
The drone then shot at Bree again, causing her to lose her footing and hang onto the tightrope on Perry's left.
"Would you look at that." You exhaled with a shaky laugh. "Three women just hanging around."
"Is this really how I'm gonna go out in the world?" Bree asked, looking down in fear.
"Not if I have anything to say about it." Perry stated. As the drone moved closer, Perry hit it with her little unbrella.
"Nice hit." Bree exhaled.
"Now I guess we wait for one of your flying friends to come save us." Perry pointed out.
"No." Bree replied. "Perry, I know how much this tightrope walk means to you. You're gonna finish it."
"I can't. I used all my energy taking out that drone. I've got nothing left. You were right." Perry told Bree. "I don't have what it takes to finish."
"Yes, you do." Bree breathed.
"Perry, look at how far you accomplished." You exhaled, tighting your grip on the rope, eyes closed.
"I was wrong." Bree admitted. "You can do this, and we're gonna do it with you."
"Okay, you're getting creepy again, Brenda." Perry told Bree.
"Hey, guys. Nice chick flick moment and all, but can we move now?" You opened your eyes, taking a breath. "Before, you know, we become flat pancakes on the street."
Bree then had spun you three back onto the tightrope. You were behind Perry and she was behind Bree.
"Whoa! Give a gal a little warning next time before you loop-the-loop her." Perry told Bree. "Something's coming up."
You three moved slowly back to the tower, and when Perry finally made it back, everyone had cheered.
"You did it!" Bree smiled at Perry. "I'm so sorry for not believing in you. You know, your Grandma Gertie would've been really proud."
"What do you mean, would have?" Perry asked. "She fell but she's still alive. She had a net." Perry told Bree. "You'd have to be crazy to do this without a net. You put up a net, right?"
Bree pursed her lips for a moment before speaking. "Yeah, we should probably get down now."
As she headed down the ladder with Perry in tow, you followed right after. Once back on the terrance, you sighed in relief as you headed inside, sitting on the couch with shaky legs.
You held your face in your hands, suddenly getting flashes of of the tightrope you walked on during your past training sessions with Giselle. You despised those training sessions.
"Hey, you okay?" Chase asked, placing his hand on your shoulder in concern.
"Yeah." You exhaled, nodding your head assuringly. "I'm fine."
You really hated tightropes.
