Pokeshipping: Resolutions (New Year's Special)

Sixteen years old Ash Ketchum was lying down on his bed and playing on his 3DS under the bed sheets when he heard a knock on the door of his bedroom. He sat up and pulled the covers down to notice his mother has already opened the door.

"I'm leaving now. Are you sure you'll be alright?" It wasn't every day that she was dressed in a black glittery tight dress and black high heels, and had makeup on.

Of course, it was the New Year's Eve.

"I'm fine."

"You don't s-..." Delia stopped talking when Ash turned to lie down and pulled the covers up. "Call me if you need anything, okay?"

"Bye." Ash's voice could be heard from under his bed sheets. He pulled the covers down again when he heard his door being closed.

Ash got up slowly from his bed and walked over to his balcony. He opened it and waited for his mother to walk out of the house. He could recognize the silhouette of the man who grabbed her hand as soon as she walked out of their garden and kissed it. It was none other than his father, with his shiny Porsche parked on the other side of the street. He could swear he caught his father's expensive fragrance scent from his spot on the balcony.

What the hell?

Ash could never get them, really. If they were seeing each other all the time, then why did they divorce in the first place? Why would you spend New Year's Eve with your ex? Something was seriously wrong with his parents...

... and probably with him too, since he's alone in New Year's Eve. It was pretty pathetic, if you ask Ash. At least his parents, even separated, had each other.

Ash had no one. He never had, and probably never will.

He was convinced he wasn't really made for relationships. Come on, no sixteen years old guy alive has never gotten a girlfriend in their whole life, except for Ash. He believed he was still a bit young for any sexual act, but no dates? No girlfriends? That takes being a complete idiot and a good sore loser.

Well, Ash wasn't sure about the idiot part, but he was sure he was a sore loser. Only losers spend New Year's Eve alone in their houses stuffing snacks into their faces and thinking about their crush who is currently kissing his best childhood friend who lives two blocks away.

Yeah, Gary Oak asked Misty Williams out a month ago, and she said yes, because, of course, Gary was bazillion times better than Ash, who has been secretly crushing on the redhead for three years.

"I'm going to ask that girl out." Gary and Ash were having lunch together in the cafeteria when the brunette announced his little plan.

"Which one?" Ash wasn't sure he's seen where Gary has pointed. "What?"

"That one, with the red hair. Misty Williams. She has a lot of classes with you, right?"

"Uh." He couldn't tell Gary he has a crush on Misty. He couldn't. He'd make fun of how she's completely out of his league.

"Do you think she'll say yes?"

Ash slammed the cupboards of the kitchen shut. He's taken out every snack he could find. He grabbed everything and put it on the counter. Screw everything, he had food.

Right when he sat on the stool of the kitchen's counter and grabbed his loyal 3DS, the doorbell rang.

Ash chose to ignore it. His mother had her keys, and his father probably did too (Ash came to that conclusion when he caught sight of his father's clothes in the laundry). He wasn't expecting anyone anyway.

The doorbell rang again.

Ash sighed, and again, chose to ignore it.

The doorbell rang again as he started playing on his console. Ash presumed it was some drunken guy, and he thought he should kick them away. He wasn't really in the mood of hearing that doorbell ring every single minute.

Thirty minutes to midnight.

Ash put on the hood of his sweater (it was a little too cold outside) and opened the main door quickly. He froze at the sight.

What the frick was Misty Williams doing at his door at this hour?

"Mist—what..."

"Hi..." her voice was completely ruined. It's like she's been crying for hours. It was clear; her mascara was running down her face.

She was wearing a nice tight marine dress and heels, and she was rubbing her upper arms with her hands up and down. Ash thought he should let her in. It was probably the cold weather.

"Do you want to get in-... I mean, if you want?"

Misty nodded and got inside. Ash closed the door slowly and turned to look at her.

He wasn't sure what to say—heck, he wasn't even sure Misty was really at his house. What even-...?

Ash watched her wipe off the tears off of her cheeks. She was getting the makeup all over. "Do you..."

"Hum?" She turned her attention to him.

"Do you want some hot chocolate?" Ash shrugged and gestured to the living room. He was trying hard not to have direct eye contact with the redhead. "Uhm... if you want-... I'm not forcing you..."

"Yes, please." Misty nodded quickly and made her way slowly to the couch.

When Ash was back, he gave Misty her cup of hot chocolate and a blanket as well. She gave him a thank-you nod and Ash sat carefully beside her, making sure he's not sitting too close.

Misty took off her high heels, pulled her legs up and wrapped the blanket around her. She held the cup between her hands and carefully took small sips from it.

"If you want to wash your face..."

"No, it's alright."

Ash didn't turn around. He looked in front of him. His heart was starting to beat faster.

"So..."

"You're probably wondering why I'm here." She spoke up, smiling weakly. "Getting dumped on New Year's Eve. How pathetic is that?"

Not as pathetic as never going a date... Ash licked his lips. He was wondering what has gone wrong between her and Gary. They were perfectly fine.

"I just couldn't get home in this state and..." Misty sighed, looking down at her hot chocolate. "I lied anyway. I said I was going to stay over May's."

Misty turned toward Ash. He was still not looking at her. "You were the only one I could think of after what happened."

Ash turned around to look her this time. Misty cleared her throat. "You know, since you live nearby..."

Well, that was close... Ash nodded and looked the other way. Damn this, he needed a burger.

"Ash-"

"Misty-"

"No, go ahead."

"No, you go first. It's fine."

Misty placed her hot chocolate on the coffee table and she started crying. Ash freaked out.

"Mist—Mi-..."

Misty wiped off her tears again. Ash shifted closer but regained himself in the last minute and shoved away. He couldn't get too close to Misty.

"I'm sorry—it's alright—it's just these stupid, panic attacks or whatever..." She chuckled through her sobs.

"Do you want me to leave you alone-"

"No, no, don't go." Misty shook her head. Ash jumped up when she shifted closer and grabbed his arm.

"O-okay."

Misty rested her head on Ash's shoulder and grabbed his arm with both her hands. She got comfortable in her spot while he was freaking out in the inside because of how gentle she felt.

"Ash."

"U-uh?"

"Why you've never told me you had a crush on me?"

Ash wanted to shout and run away, but Misty was resting on him, and that would make her fall.

"I-I don't know."

"What were you waiting for?"

"I..." It was now or never. Ash had no idea how did she find out, but he's had enough of hiding this from her. "I wasn't sure..."

"I think you're really cute and nice, and I was hoping you'd come to me someday."

Ash blinked several times, trying to wake up from this dream.

"Are you honest?" Ash turned around slowly, making sure he won't make Misty move. His blush was noticeable now.

He felt her nod her head against her shoulder.

"I was just afraid of your reaction, that's all." Ash looked down at his cup of hot chocolate and smiled slightly, his blush getting prominent. "I noticed you on the first day of school three years ago, Misty, and ever since, I couldn't stop thinking about you."

"The first day of our freshman year, you mean?"

"Yes."

"I was clueless back then. I didn't know what this feeling meant until recently." Misty giggled lightly. "You didn't do a great job hiding it. You always wanted to be paired up with me in Science and you always changed spots so you'd be sitting beside me in class."

Ash chuckled nervously. "It's stupid, I know."

"No, it's not. I think it's cute." Misty pulled away and sat up. She turned toward Ash. "You're not like other guys, and that what makes of you very special."

Ten minutes to midnight.

Ash stared at Misty. She was the only person he's known who had such beautiful turquoise ocean eyes.

"Are you lying to me or what?"

Misty chuckled. "Of course not. Why would I?"

"Gary asked you out and you said yes. What's that supposed to mean then?"

"That's something only a girl can understand."

"You mean I can't understand that you like Gary?"

"Ash, I don't like Gary. I never did, and never will."

Ash just stared.

"See? I told you, you won't understand."

Okay, she really liked him. This isn't a dream.

Misty smiled at Ash and he returned the gesture. She turned her attention to the clock on the way.

"Five minutes to midnight."

"Five minutes to the new year..."

"What are you resolutions, Ash?"

"I'll tell you, but don't laugh, okay?" Ash leaned forward and looked up. "I want to quit eating junk food, lose fifteen pounds, and make you notice me."

"Making me notice you seems like the most interesting one. Why bother with others?" Misty grinned.

"You're funny." Ash grinned back at her. "I eat a lot of junk. When I have to take meds for allergies it's even worse. I could wake up in the middle of the night to eat."

"I don't see anything wrong with the way you look now. I think you look good. It suits 'Ash Ketchum'."

"It suits me?" Ash raised his eyebrow.

"Yeah. I don't know what will happen to you if you get thinner. It won't be you anymore. I'll hate you, to be honest. You'll probably look sick and hideous."

The two laughed a little. Misty then said, "I want to be more positive, concentrate more on school and make Ash Ketchum my boyfriend."

"You're not serious — you just made that up now!"

"That's not true! Here!" Misty grabbed her phone from her purse and opened her notes. She showed Ash this note called '2016 resolutions!'

Be more positive c:

School c:

Make Ash my babe c:

Ash turned completely red in the face. He cleared his throat and looked back at Misty, pretending not seeing that 'babe' word. "Did you know you will break up with Gary or what?"

"Well, let's say he broke up with me before I break up with him, and that hurt, you know, even if..."

"Gary likes you."

"No, he finds me attractive. That's two different things." Misty put back her phone inside her purse.

"It's almost midnight..." Ash looked at the clock. Misty did as well. There was almost one minute left to midnight.

"49! 48! 47!..." There were a bunch of (probably drunken) men outside who were counting in loud voices and Ash and Misty could hear them.

"They're counting for us."

Misty chuckled.

"Yeah."

"30! 29! 28! 27! 26! 25!..."

"Mist."

"Yes?"

"22! 21! 20! 19! 18!..."

"We like each other, right?"

Misty laughed and pulled closer. She spoke in a softer voice tone as she stared into Ash's eyes, "Yes, we do."

"8! 7! 6! 5! 4! 3! 2! 1!"

Ash leaned forward instantly and kissed Misty on her lips, eyes closed. She kissed him as well, grabbing his neck and pressing him against her even more.

"HAPPY NEW YEAR! WOOOHOOO!"

"Wait, so this means you didn't come here only because I live nearby, right?"

Misty smirked. "Happy New Year, Ash."

THE END.

Most rushed one shot I've ever written XD I hope there aren't a lot of mistakes...

Happy New Year's everyone! It was almost two hours ago in Switzerland :3
