Pokeshipping: Best friends
Misty has been best friends with Ash ever since they were ten.
They were everywhere together; at school, at the mall, at the library, at her house watching a movie, at his house baking for Mother's Day, or even outside, taking a walk. They were always with each other, laughing at stupid jokes, eating snacks and laughing about embracing their fat.
Growing up, they grew closer and closer. Misty shared everything (literally) with Ash, and this latter shared everything with her too. The two knew each other like open books. They were best buddies, and everyone envied them for having such beautiful friendship.
Friendship?
They had feelings for each other.
When they started their junior year, Ash told Misty he had feelings for her, and more than once. Misty never confessed her love to Ash though, and every time they spoke about it, Misty changes the subject. Eventually, Ash stopped saying he loved Misty — he's had enough by the time she was ready to blurt out her feelings.
So she kept them for herself, and they were back to their 'friendship' again.
Summer rolled by, and Ash had a month to spend at his father's house in Viridian. After a long battle at courts, it was the first time his dad ever gets to have him at his house stay more than a week. Misty knew how much Ash appreciated his father's company, and she knew she'd miss him a lot, but if that made Ash happy, she's happy.
During that whole month, she and Ash spoke every day. They still laughed at stupid jokes and made fun of their eating habits. They told each other everything, and Ash sounded rather happy at his second home. Misty was happy for him too, and she couldn't wait for the day when he'd get back home and she'd get to see him.
Two days before Ash gets home, everything drastically changes; Ash and Misty were texting, and unusually, Ash was just giving short answers, and taking a lifetime to. It was totally not him.
Misty: Are you okay, Ash?
Misty only got the answer after fifteen minutes — which seemed like an eternity to her.
Ash: Yes
Of course, Misty's replies were quick.
Misty: Are you busy? Am I bothering you?
He took an eternity again. It upset Misty. She felt as he was mad at her for some reason.
Ash: No
Misty: Well, you look busy
That time, Ash replied quicker,
Ash: No I'm just talking to my girlfriend as well
Misty saw her world fall to pieces right before her eyes. She felt mad, angry, sad, frustrated — a mix of emotions that is.
Best friend? My ass.
Since when he had a girlfriend? And why didn't he tell Misty about her? Weren't they supposed to share anything and everything? And what about all those times he's told her he loved her? And what about Misty? What about her feelings toward him? What about them?
Misty has asked him the most obvious question:
Misty: You have a girlfriend? Since when? You never told me!
Ash: It's back from when I went to Viridian to see my dad no big deal
Misty: This time?
Ash: No like two or three months ago
Misty got angrier with every word Ash typed. How could he? He said he loved her — well, maybe he lied, but she was his best friend. Why did Ash hide his girlfriend from her?
Misty was confused. She was crying too. In her most horrible emotional states, she sent Ash something she's never typed to anyone before:
Misty: I hate you. I HATE YOU. F*ck you.
And Ash's reply was fast that time:
Ash: What
Ash: You're a worthless b*tch you know that
After receiving Ash's shocking text, Misty couldn't think of anything else but delete him from every social media account she has and block his phone number. She wished to never see him again and wanted him out of her life — or so she thought.
Misty was miserable without Ash.
It has been a week since Ash has gotten home back from Viridian, and they haven't talked at all. Her friend May was implying the redhead didn't get angry because Ash hid his girlfriend from her; it was because he said he loved Misty and now he was dating someone else.
Misty knew a part of that was true, but still, she felt betrayed, both as a friend, and... as a possible lover.
She was finding a hard time getting over a friendship of six years. Heck, she knew she'd never get over it. Misty always wondered how Ash was doing, if he was thinking about her too, and if he regretted what he's said to her.
Because Misty did, horribly.
Misty cried every night ever since that day. She felt incomplete, empty, incapable, betrayed — alone. She was repeating "I can't believe I don't talk to Ash anymore" every second and every minute to her friends Dawn and May each time she saw them, and they had no idea how to comfort her.
It killed her once when she walked past Ash at the mall and he didn't even look at her or say hi.
What have they done to themselves?
What has she done?
Misty knew she was to blame; it was only normal for Ash to react the way he did when she went too low and spoke in such language to him. Misty meant what she told him, and so did he.
This whole thing was a huge misunderstanding — or so Misty tried to convince herself. She just hated this. She hated how stupid she acted. That conversation was totally uncalled for; this whole thing was totally so uncalled for.
Another week without Ash. It was Misty's birthday. She was turning sixteen.
It didn't mean anything. Misty wasn't happy. Nothing could make her happy. It made no sense at all if her best friend wasn't by her side.
The redhead sighed. She was at the old park where she and Ash always came to play soccer when they were kids. They still came here and always sat at the same bench, facing each other and legs crossed, hands on their feet, and pretending they're doing yoga — when they were still friends, of course.
Misty smiled weakly; Ash has always teased her about being the youngest in their class. She called him old; he called her a kid; she told him he was going to get wrinkles before she does, and Ash just gave one of his hilarious answers:
"What? Both of us are awesome! Awesome people don't get wrinkles!"
And they laughed and hugged. How could Misty even let that friendship go? She wished she had the courage to go to Ash and apologize, but it was too hard. Ash committed a mistake too, and he owed her an apology as well.
"This is just so messed up..." Misty's voice soon started to shake, and she's let a few tears escape. She quickly wiped them off and sniffed.
"It's alright. I can live with it."
Misty shed few tears again. She was having a hard time controlling herself. Again, she quickly wiped off the tears and got up. She knew she had to leave this place if she wanted to stop crying, after all; it held a lot of memories.
Misty grabbed her shoulder bag and turned around, ready to leave. She stopped in her tracks when she noticed Ash right facing her.
"What..."
"Happy birthday, Mist."
Misty watched Ash hand her a small dark blue box. She accepted it.
"You're not going to open it?"
"Ash— I'm— I'm sorry... I'm really sorry..."
"Hey, it's alright. Come here."
Misty started instantly crying right she hugged Ash. Damn, they've missed each other's embrace... "Don't cry— why are you crying anyway?"
"I don't know... I'm stupid..."
"I'm stupid too. It's okay. We're both stupid. It makes us even more awesome."
Misty smiled through her tears. The two pulled away from each other. "You look like a panda. Your makeup is all over."
The redhead gave Ash a playful slap on his arm. "Thank you. That made me feel better."
"You're welcome. Again, why are you crying? It's your birthday. You're officially a junior, even though junior year is already done— you're always late."
Misty just smiled. She stepped closer to Ash. "I'm sorry for everything I said. I didn't mean it. I was just mad."
"I guess it's okay. I did screw things up too."
"Yes, you did!"
Misty felt alive again when she and Ash laughed. It was just impossible for one to survive without the other. Now, it's just like they learned how to breathe again.
"I'm sorry. You think I lied to you, right?"
"Huh?"
"I said I love you, you know. It's not a lie." Ash chuckled. "I had no idea you'd react badly to me going out with someone else. I was honestly just trying to make you feel, like, kinda jealous."
"Ash... you lied about having a girlfriend?"
"No, Melody does really exist, and I was dating her. I broke up after this happened."
"Wait, what?"
"Hey, let's forget about this whole thing and celebrate you finally turning sixteen— finally! Come on, open my present. Dad helped me get it."
Misty raised an eyebrow at her best friend. "Don't speak like I don't know you."
"Okay, fine! He paid for it. Open it."
"You never learn, Ash."
"Don't give me a life lesson now. Open it!"
"Fine! Fine!" Misty giggled and opened the small blue box. She gasped; her mouth opening slightly at the sight of her present.
Misty lifted up the platinum necklace with the turquoise tear-shaped pendant. The redhead was stunned. "It's so beautiful..."
"Remember when we were messing and fighting at my house studying for finals and I accidentally –I emphasize on accidentally– grabbed your necklace and ripped the thing off? Yeah, I wanted to make up for it."
"Ash, that necklace cost absolutely nothing."
"It doesn't matter. Here is a new one. Do you like it?"
"Of course I like it! Look at it! It's so beautiful!" Misty still couldn't believe her eyes. The necklace was so shiny and beautiful. The platinum swirls holding the turquoise were just so elegant. "Help me put it on!"
"Sure."
Misty held her long orange hair up as Ash placed the necklace around her neck and helped her wear it.
"It looks so pretty!" Misty took out her hand mirror and admired herself and mostly the new jewelry piece around her neck.
"That's because you are pretty."
Misty turned around. She grinned. "There, you're back at it again."
"Yes, I am! Wait; is there a cake at your house? I'm craving sweets."
"I don't know. I left early in the morning. I know mom and dad will be preparing something though."
"Before we got home then, I'm taking you on bakeries hunting. My treat. The money dad has given me is supposed to go to my car's assurance company but food comes first."
"You're crazy, Ash."
"It makes me more awesome. Come on!"
"Oh my God — you know what? I think I'm craving lemon and crème pastries!"
"Crème-filled croissant with melted chocolate on top. Daamn."
"Or Swiss rolls!"
"Lemon flavored macaroons, or strawberry flavored!"
"Aaaash! Stop! It's making me drool!"
"Oh, I thought I felt something drizzle on my hand."
"Ash!"
Best friends, lovers, or even just friends... Misty didn't really care anymore; as long as she was with Ash, nothing else mattered.
THE END.
