An Angel Born
A lilac colored Pokémon nuzzled the black, yellow ringed Pokémon beside her.
"It's almost time, Midnight," the purple Pokémon purred, her voice full of excitement, joy, and love.
"Esther, my darling," Midnight responded, grooming her fur as he smiled. "I can't wait to see our little child. I'm sure the amulet you wear will look beautiful on them."
Esther smiled, looking down at the amulet she wore. The crystal inside had been blessed by a mew, a long time ago, and had been passed down in the Espeons family.
"They'll love their mother and father," Midnight added. Esther almost told him her secret right then. Their father isn't you, Midnight... she thought, hiding her despair. I... I cheated on you...
She thought back to when she met the Umbreon that was her eggs father.
Esther had been walking through the forest on her way back to home. She had caught a glimpse of a golden furred Pokémon and streaked after it. She had found the Umbreon then, with his golden fur. He had looked at her with such an intense gaze. "H-Hi..." the Espeon said shyly.
"Hey," he responded calmly. Esther had been mesmerized by the smooth tone of his voice, his tranquil aura, and his beautiful fur.
"I'm Esther," she said, amazed. The Umbreon smiled.
"Sunset," he had replied.
"Such a fitting name," she purred before she could stop herself. Then she realized that she had strayed from her path. "Oh, I must get going. Someone is waiting for me at home," she said quickly. "But... may I meet you here, tomorrow..?" she asked shyly. Sunset nodded.
"Of course. I'll be waiting, Esther. Good bye for now."
Every day since then, Esther had made some excuse or another to go and meet Sunset. They were just something about his fur, his demeanor, his voice, that called to her. She couldn't resist.
And then...
It happened.
She had lost all sense of judgment. When she recovered her common sense, it was too late to turn back. Sunset had left, and she was laying curled around an egg.
"Yes, they will love me and you," she responded. Her voice was shaky, unsteady, but luckily, Midnight didn't notice.
A crack reverberated through the air.
"Oh! Midnight!" Esther breathed, looking down at the egg. It had begun to break.
Their child was hatching.
"Esther..." Midnight whispered as the egg cracked once again.
A golden paw pushed its way out of the egg and Midnight cocked his head.
"No..." Esther murmured.
The paw pushed farther out, revealing its hot pink paw pads. It pushed away more of the egg, revealing that the child was a golden Eevee.
The Umbreon reared back in shock. He turned on Esther and hissed. "This... this freak is not my child!"
"I'm sorry!" Esther cried out. "He was so beautiful... so calm, all the time! His voice was irresistible!"
"You..." he seemed surprised. "You... you cheated on me..?"
"I'm sorry..." she whispered.
The pink eyed Eevee tilted her head, tearing up. "Mama..? Dada..?" She asked, a tear slipping down her cheek.
Midnight didn't care. "You... I... I can't be with someone who lies to me, and cheats on me."
"Midnight! Wait!" Esther cried out, but to no avail. The Umbreon was walking away, with no regard to what the Espeon was saying.
The Eevee was sobbing. "Dada!" she shouted, but the Umbreon couldn't hear. Esther ran to her child's side and wrapped her tail around the golden furred Pokémon.
"Looks like I caused a big problem," a voice chuckled from the shadows. "You really are an idiot, you know? I've been using Attract this whole time!" Sunset said as he walked out of the shade of the trees. He had a malicious grin on his face. "So sorry to disturb you," he laughed. "I figured I should get a chance to see my child, though... and the look on your face."
"You... you monster!" she shouted. The amulet began to glow, radiating a pinkish light. Esther jumped onto Sunset and, before she knew what she was doing, slit his throat with her claws.
Sunset looked utterly shocked. He tried to say something, but it came out as a gurgle, blood spilling from his neck.
The light from the amulet began to glow a blood red.
"I-I... what have I done?!" Esther screeched as Sunsets body convulsed and writhed as he fell to the ground, his blood staining the dirt. He reached up a paw, his leg shaking, before he fell limp.
Esther's amulet dimmed.
Her face was the epitome of despair. Her loved one had left her and she had killed the true father of her daughter.
"Ma... mama..?" the child asked, crying. Esther was frozen with shock. The Eevee pushed herself to her paws and stepped over the shells pieces of the egg to nuzzle the Espeon. That seemed to rouse her, and she quickly licked the Eevee to calm her.
"I'm sorry... Sunstone..."
Sunstone tilted her head and clambered onto Esther's back.
"Heh..." the Espeon muttered and walked towards the pathway. She followed it to a stream and washed her paws wordlessly, Sunstone balancing on her back.
"Oh, Sunstone... we'll have to make it on our own," Esther said softly.
"I... Sun? Or Stone?" the Eevee asked.
"Sunstone."
"I... sun...stone!" Sunstone giggled.
"Yes, good job," Esther smiled slightly. She resumed traveling with the Eevee, who soon fell asleep on her back.
"One day... I'll give you my amulet and tell you the secrets of our family. You'll be a healer... you'll be the one to pass on our mixtures. You will save so many Pokémon, as I did once, and your grandparents before me. You will be like an angel."
