Chapter 3
David's help could only reach a certain extent and he tried his best, which Evanee greatly appreciated. Though now she was stuck in the passenger seat with Jonathan who had no clue that she wasn't who she said she was. That and they were driving to Evan's house where he and his girlfriend were living.
It was enough to make her seriously contemplate jumping out of the moving car.
"So what do you do for a living, Ethan?"
"I just quit my job in Manhattan, but I work in the medical field. So once I find a place to stay, I'll be looking for a job at the nearest hospital," Evanee was struggling to keep her voice low.
Jonathan nodded. "Bet you get a lot working at hospitals. David mentioned you watch our videos?"
"Been a subscriber for three years."
It had been small talk between the two for the rest of the car ride. Not once had Evanee initiated a conversation, but Jonathan was happy to try and talk.
"I love this song," Jonathan turned the radio up with a soft smile and focused his eyes back on the road.
Evanee wasn't a stranger to this song. In fact, she loved it. It was a song that actually made her feel sad. Not only for her parents, but for Jonathan and his late sister.
After that one night, he talked about little Macy more often. She remembered that he always referred to her as "little Macy"; not Macy, or little sister. She was always little Macy.
Jonathan was the type of person to laugh everything off in public. Though when they were always alone, Jonathan felt comfortable enough to actually talk about certain things. He poured his heart out to her and most of his feelings were of the death of his little sister. He was always so heartbroken over it. Jonathan had told her it was because he was the one who always watched over her, played with her, and stayed by her side. And he couldn't do anything to stop her from getting worse when it was his job to protect her.
She missed their talks.
Come home
Come home
Cause I've been waiting for you
Evanee couldn't help but quietly sing along as she stared out the window. It was such a cliché, but she didn't want to look in Jonathan's direction. She didn't want to see the sad look on his face or she'd probably begin crying.
"How long are you going to keep this up, Evs? I know it's been a while but did you honestly think that I wouldn't recognize you or did you just want to ignore me?"
Her eyes stayed glued to the scenery outside the window. "You knew?"
"From the instant I saw you. I was just waiting for you to say something."
It was quiet for a few minutes. Evanee couldn't bare to look at him and Jonathan had no idea what to say. From time to time he'd glance at Evanee and feel a tug in his chest, but he didn't say anything. He desperately wanted to park the car on the side of the free way, get out of his seat, and kiss her.
That wasn't acceptable though. He hadn't seen her for three years. The different emotions in his heart were confusing him. All he wanted was for her to reach out herself. He just wanted to hear her say that she missed him, even if it was only a bit.
"Are we actually going to Evan's?"
"No. Not if you don't want to but I didn't lie when I said the motel was near his place," Jonathan said solemnly. She still cared to ask about Evan of course. "That's fucking it," Jonathan stopped abruptly on the side of the road, a few buildings away from their destination.
He locked the car doors and stared at Evanee as she looked at him in confusion. "You think you can just come back to California after three whole fucking years without saying anything? You told us not to forget you and I never did, Evs. I never fucking did but you went off and did your own thing and I understood. I understood that you were in college and you had other things to deal with. But there were less and less messages and calls until it just stopped and then you decide to come back without telling anyone except David. Don't you know he has a girlfriend, Evanee? You're doing it again! You're ruining everything just by being here-"
He paused and replayed the last few words. Evanee had been staring at him the entire time and he saw it. He saw the flicker in her eyes as soon as those words flew out of his mouth and the tears pooling around her eyes.
"Again, Jonathan? Did I ruin everything just by being alive? If you were so angry about me being close to you, why are you so angry about me wanting to live my life and move on from this childish bullshit? We're not teenagers anymore, Jon. You have to learn that people leave whether you like it or not," Evanee said softly, an indirect hint to little Macy that Jonathan had caught onto.
She unlocked the doors and grabbed her things from the backseat. He didn't even try to stop her as she began walking away. At least the motel sign could be seen from where he parked so she knew where she was going.
There was no other reason for him to run after her, so he didn't. He drove to Evan's house with a heavy heart.
Meanwhile, Evanee checked in to her motel room and lugged her belongings up to the second floor. It was a quiet place; a bit shabby but quaint. She had already wiped away the tears that had formed when she was walking here.
In the beginning of Jonathan's little monologue, she actually did feel guilty and she was going to apologize profusely. Then he kept going and he said what he really felt. He told her what he thought she was.
As an adult, Evanee tried not to take it to heart. That was Jonathan being a child and expressing his anger in a way she didn't have the energy to bother with. She didn't need him. She didn't plan on even meeting him again after her flight.
The green eyed girl lazily tossed her things by the door and locked it. She then changed, washed her face, and brushed her teeth. It was only around six but she wasn't necessarily in the best of moods and a nap sounded like the best remedy to get rid of her shitty emotions.
"Temporary death, here I come," she mumbled to herself, climbing under the covers.
Then there was a knock at the door and Evanee wanted nothing more than to grab the closest thing to her- in this case, a lamp- and throw it at the door. Not wanting to be charged for destroyed room property, she got opened the door.
"Hey, pipsqueak," Tyler ruffled my hair. "Jon said you needed some cheering up so I brought Kelly here with some ice cream and some comedies."
"Tyler?" She threw her arms around him, which he returned, and as soon as she let go she punched his stomach. "You're a fucking asshole. I tried texting you the first month after I left and you never responded you ass."
All he did was shrug and Evanee was about damn ready to kick him into the bathroom and drown him in toilet water. That was until Kelly came inside with a bright smile.
"How in the hell did you get even prettier?" Evanee asked, genuinely surprised that the beautiful blonde in front of her looked even better than she had three years ago.
Kelly laughed and wrapped her up in a hug. "It's so good to see you. You look so different."
"So I've heard. You guys are staying?"
Tyler explained to her that Jonathan had called him a while earlier saying that she was back in California and she wasn't doing the best. Stupid bastard never mentioned that he was he one who kind of caused it, but Evanee didn't say anything.
The three of them sat flat on their stomachs on the bed with Kelly in the middle and a laptop in front of her. The couple came prepared with three large paper bowls and plastic spoons as well as a tub full of caramel hazelnut ice cream.
Everything about them made her happy: the snorting from Kelly, the wheezing from Tyler, and their bright smiles when watching stupid comedies. Though thinking of the specific flavor of ice cream they chose made her stomach churn. It was her favorite and a slightly expensive type of ice cream. She knew they wouldn't have gotten it unless they knew she liked it but the only person who knew that was Evan Fong.

Sad chapter. Bad chapter. BLEGH. I need ideas pronto. I couldn't think of anything while writing this. I only managed to write because I felt sad and used that in this chapter. Whoops. Vote and comment which youtuber you want to see with Evanee (even someone who hasn't been introduced yet)
And as always I hope ye enjoy(:)
