"You brought color
to my blackened soul,
but I will make sure
you're painted in shades of
my obsession and desire."
AVYAAN
....
Tarana and Avyaan sat across from her parents in the quiet yet tense living room.
The air was thick with an unspoken weight as her parents stared at Avyaan and their expressions shifted from surprise to disbelief.
They knew Avyaan and his younger sister Sunaina who was Tarana's best friend but seeing Avyaan from this close, made them nervous because there was a line between them and Tarana's parents didn't dare to cross that line, line of rich and poor.
And they also had heard of 'The Empire Global Group', a name synonymous with power, wealth, and absolute authority. And now, the CEO of the company, Avyaan Khadka who carried the weight of power, influence, and an unshakable presence in the business world, was sitting before them, exuding an unshakable confidence.
Tarana's mother clutched the edge of her saree and her gaze darting between her daughter and Avyaan beside her.
Tarana's father leaned forward slightly, his brows furrowing in cautious skepticism.
But Avyaan remained unfazed. He met their gazes head-on as he spoke in a firm and unwavering tone.
"Tara ki Mummy. Tara ke Papa", Avyaan addressed them respectfully and they were stunned by his choices of words.
(Tara's mother. Tara's father)
Tarana choked her saliva and looked at him, 'Why is talking like this?'.
"I am Avyaan Khadka, the CEO of The Empire Global Group, and I desire to marry your daughter, Tarana", Avyaan said.
His words weren't a request. They weren't a plea. They were a declaration. It was absolute and final.
Tarana who was sitting beside him, swallowed hard while her hands were clenching in her lap.
She had expected a conversation, a discussion, but Avyaan had skipped all of that and just declared his intention without hesitation, just as he always did.
Tarana's parents sat frozen as their eyes were widening in shock as they processed Avyaan's bold declaration.
Tarana's mother was the first to find her voice. She asked, as if needing confirmation that she had heard correctly.
"You... you desire to marry our daughter?".
Avyaan nodded.
"Yes. I don't just desire it but I've already decided. Tarana will be my wife", He said and his words left no room for argument.
Her father's brows furrowed. "Marriage is not a business deal, Mr. Khadka. It's a lifelong commitment. Do you even love our daughter?".
Avyaan turned to Tarana and his gaze was intense.
"Love?", He let the word roll off his tongue before looking back at her parents.
"She is mine. And in my world, mine means forever", He finished speaking and Tarana's breath hitched, her cheeks heating at his possessive words.
She wasn't sure what shocked her more, his confidence or the way his claim sent a shiver through her.
Tarana's mother exchanged a glance with her husband, uncertainty flickering in their eyes. Her father leaned back, folding his arms across his chest, scrutinizing the man before him.
"This isn't how things work. Marriage is built on understanding, trust. Not possession", Tarana's father said in his tone firm.
Avyaan's expression remained unchanged. He leaned forward slightly, his sharp gaze locking onto Tarana's father.
"I understand responsibility better than most. I didn't run 'The Empire Global Group' by making reckless decisions. And When I claim something as mine, I protect it, cherish it, and ensure its happiness. Tara is no exception", Avyaan said in a calm voice but it was full of coldness and authority.
Tarana's mother bit her lip, still hesitant as she said, "But have you even asked her what she wants?".
For the first time, Avyaan turned fully toward Tarana. His intense gaze softened just a fraction, but the determination in his eyes never wavered.
"Tara! Do you want to marry me?", Avyaan asked in a quieter voice, yet no less commanding.
The room fell silent. Tarana felt the weight of every gaze on her. Her heart pounded as she looked into Avyaan's expectant eyes.
He wasn't asking for permission, he was asking for confirmation.
Taking a shaky breath, she met his gaze head-on.
"You didn't even propose properly", she muttered, more to herself than anyone else.
Avyaan's lips twitched, the closest thing to amusement she had ever seen from him. He reached into his pocket and, to her utter shock, pulled out a velvet box.
He flicked it open with precision, revealing a stunning diamond ring that shimmered under the room's light.
"If it's a proposal you need then here it is", he said in a low, calm voice.
Tarana sat there frozen. Her parents were speechless.
Avyaan took her hand as his thumb was brushing against her knuckles as he held up the ring.
"Tara! Marry me", he said and his gaze was dark and unreadable as he slided the ring in her ring finger without waiting for her response.
A hush fell over the room as everyone waited for her answer.
Tarana's chest tightened as a surge of frustration and helplessness crashed over her. Her eyes turned glossy with unshed tears, burned with intensity as she turned on Avyaan.
"What are you doing? Why did you spoil everything? Didn't I tell you not to say anything to my parents? Didn't I tell you to let me handle it?", she demanded and her voice was trembling but it was sharp with accusations as she burst on him.
The weight of her emotions became so unbearable for her that before she could stop herself, the dam of emotion broke.
A strangled sob tore from her throat, and she collapsed onto the chair behind her, burying her face in her hands. Tears streamed down her cheeks and her body was trembling with every shaky breath.
Her parents, who had been stunned silent moments ago, exchanged bewildered glances.
Avyaan's jaw tightened as he watched Tarana break down in front of him. This wasn't how he had expected things to unfold. His entire life, he had controlled every situation with precision, but now, standing before the woman he wanted to marry, he realized he had miscalculated.
For the first time, Avyaan Khadka, the man who controlled everything in his life, felt utterly powerless
Her parents stared at her in shock, torn between concern and confusion.
Her mother stepped forward, reaching out hesitantly. "Beta... why are you crying?"
Tarana sniffed, wiping at her tears angrily. "Because he ruined everything!"
She turned to Avyaan, her eyes blazing despite the tears streaming down her cheeks.
"I told you in the car, didn't I? I wanted to talk to them first, to make them understand my choice. But you... you just barged in like you own my life!", her voice cracked.
Avyaan's brows furrowed as he stepped closer, his hand reaching out instinctively, but Tarana took a step back.
"Tara! I didn't mean to hurt you. I only did what I thought was right", he said in a low, soft voice.
Tarana let out a bitter laugh, shaking her head. "That's the problem, Avyaan. You think you can decide everything for me".
For the first time, doubt flickered in Avyaan's usually unreadable gaze. He was a man who conquered everything he wanted, but had he just lost the one thing that mattered most?
Avyaan sighed weakly as he ran his fingers in his long hair. He glanced at her and said in a calm but firm voice while looking at Tarana's parents. "Okay! Stop crying now. I apologize. Tara's mother and father, please forget what I said a few minutes ago and let her speak".
Tarana's parents sat frozen as their expressions were unreadable. Her father's brows furrowed as his sharp gaze locked onto Avyaan, as if trying to decipher this sudden shift in demeanor.
Her mother whose lips were slightly parted, looked between her daughter and the man beside her, as if she had stepped into a conversation she could no longer control.
Avyaan was composed as he exhaled deeply and met Tarana's parents' gaze with a rare sincerity.
"I understand that I may have overstepped", he admitted.
Tarana's sobs also softened as she wiped her tear-streaked face but her breath still shaky. She looked up at Avyaan and her eyes were filled with disbelief.
'Had the mighty Avyaan Khadka just apologized?'
The anger and frustration that had surged through her moments ago now settled into exhaustion.
She had wanted control of the situation, but Avyaan and his bold, relentless, and completely unapologetic love for her, had shattered her carefully laid plans.
Avyaan's gaze never left her as his dark eyes were softer now. He had forced his way into the conversation, but for her, he was willing to take a step back. His apology wasn't just to her parents, it was to her.
Her father finally broke the silence, leaning back in his chair. "Alright. We are listening", he said slowly, shifting his gaze to Tarana.
Tarana glanced at Avyaan, who gave her a small nod. She swallowed hard, her fingers twisting in her lap.
Tarana's heart pounded in her chest. This was her moment but could she truly make her parents understand?
She had spent days preparing for this moment, choosing the right words, planning how to convince her parents.
But now, sitting beside Avyaan who had just shaken her world yet again, she felt her carefully built resolve waver.
Tarana took a deep breath and turned to her parents, her voice was filled with emotion.
"Maa! Papa! Meet him. He is Avyaan Khadka, Sunaina's elder brother and the man I love," she said and her parents looked deeply at her.
Her father's expression softened as his eyes flickered with a mix of emotions of concern, acceptance, and perhaps even understanding. He had always known his daughter's heart, though he had kept his distance, careful not to intrude on her choices but right now, his heart was torn apart.
On the other hand, her mother let out a deep sigh as she too knew about Tarana's heart. She had always wanted the best for Tarana, but she hadn't expected things to unfold this way, so quickly.
"Tarana...! You've always been stubborn, but we never doubted your feelings and our upbringing", her father said.
Her mother remained quiet, but her eyes were searching as if she was trying to read the depth of the connection between Tarana and Avyaan.
Avyaan sensed the shift, sat a bit straighter, yet kept his gaze steady on Tarana's parents. He knew this wasn't just about him, it was about their trust, their approval, and most importantly, their daughter's happiness.
Tarana took a deep breath and looked at her parents with determination.
"I need your permission and blessings" she said with emotion.
Her mother exchanged a glance with her father, uncertainty flickering in their eyes.
"Tarana, marriage is a lifelong commitment. Are you sure this is what you want?", her father said in a firm but gentle tone.
Tarana nodded without hesitation and said, "Yes, Papa. I love Avyaan, and I know he loves me. I want to spend my life with him."
Avyaan immediately said, "I promise to take care of her, to stand by her side through everything. I will never let her regret choosing me."
Her mother sighed, eyes softening as she reached out to touch Tarana's hand and said, "If this is your decision, and if Avyaan truly respects and cherishes you, then..."
Then ahe turned to her husband and asked, "What do you think?"
Tarana's heart pounded in her chest as she looked at her father.
"Tarana! Can we talk to you alone for a few minutes?" her father asked, his eyes soft but stern.
Tarana glanced at Avyaan, who stood silently, his expression unreadable but supportive. She took a deep breath and replied, "Of course, Papa."
With a final glance at Avyaan, she followed her father to the corner of the room.
Once they were alone, her mother joined her father, and the three of them stood together, an almost protective aura surrounding them.
Her father's gaze softened as he looked at her. "Sit down, beta."
Tarana complied, her legs feeling a little unsteady as she took a seat.
"We've been watching you grow up, making your own choices, and we've always supported you, but this is different, isn't it?" her mother said gently.
Tarana looked at her parents, her voice was trembling slightly. "It's not different, Maa. I've always loved him, and I know in my heart that he's the one I'm meant to be with."
Her father nodded slowly. "We know you love him, Tarana. We just want to make sure that you've thought this through. We've seen how your relationship with him has grown, but love alone isn't enough for a marriage. There are other things to consider, things that we've seen from the outside."
Tarana's heart clenched. She had expected this conversation, but now that it was happening, the reality of it all hit her harder than she anticipated.
"Are you willing to be a part of his dark and illegal world?", Her father asked and her breath hitched as she listened to her father's words.
Her hands trembled slightly, and she clenched them into fists on her lap.
"Papa..." she whispered.
"I am your father, Tarana. The day I realized your feelings for him, I knew there was no turning back for you. No other man will ever take his place in your heart. I saw it in your eyes, in the way you daydream about him, wrote his name at the last page in your notebook, the way you looked at him whenever he came to drop and pick up his sister from school. You have his cutout images from magazines and newspapers", Her father said.
Her mother remained silent beside him.
Her father inhaled deeply before continuing, "And so, I did what any father would do, I dug into his identity. I searched for the man my daughter had given her heart to".
Tarana swallowed hard and her pulse was hammering in her ears.
"And that's when I came across a name that sucked the air from my lungs, 'The Satan'... the mafia king of Scorpion Satan", Her father said and her mother flinched at the name, gripping the edge of her saree tightly.
Tarana looked down for a moment, composing herself before meeting her father's gaze. "I know exactly who he is, Papa. And I still love him".
Her father's expression darkened. "Then tell me, Tarana, are you willing to be a part of his dark and illegal world? Are you ready to stand beside a man who deals in blood and power? Who holds life and death in his hands?".
Tarana's heartbeat thundered, but her voice was steady when she answered, "I don't care about his world, Papa. I care about the man. I love Avyaan, not just his name, not just his power. I love him for who he is, the man who protects those he cares about, the man who would burn the world for the people he loves".
Her father exhaled heavily, rubbing his temples. "Loving him is one thing, Tarana. Living his life is another".
She leaned forward, determination was blazing in her eyes as she replied, "Then let me make that choice, Papa. If there's danger, I will face it. If there's darkness, I will stand with him through it. Because in his arms, I have never felt fear. Only love".
A tense silence filled the room, heavy with unspoken emotions.
Her mother sighed, finally speaking. "We just want to be sure you know what you are stepping into, beta".
Tarana nodded, "I have never been more sure of anything in my life".
"I know, Tarana, I know what you've done behind our backs. You took care of him, stood by his side when no one else did. I've seen the lengths you've gone to for him", her father continued.
Tarana swallowed the lump in her throat. "Papa, I...."
He held up a hand, shaking his head and said, "I don't know what to say anymore. If you want to marry him, then I have nothing more to argue about".
A shaky breath escaped Tarana's lips, her emotions overwhelming her. She reached for her father's hand, gripping it tightly. "Papa! I can't live without him".
Her father exhaled heavily, squeezing her hand back. "I know, beta. That's why I am thinking about your marriage".
Her mother said, "You've already chosen him, haven't you, Tarana?".
Tarana nodded without hesitation. "A long time ago, Maa. I never cared if he would accept me, love me or even glance at me or not but to me, he is the only one and I can't think about anyone else. My one sided love was enough for me to live my life".
A small, wistful smile tugged at her mother's lips before she sighed. "Then, we should start discussing the wedding".
Tarana's heart swelled as she looked between her parents, her father's reluctant acceptance and her mother's quiet understanding.
And in that moment, she knew, Avyaan wasn't just her choice. He was her destiny, her future husband.
