....
"I am an orphan,"
Even though the words were still echoing in his ears, he chose to ignore his feelings and spoke to Shlok face-to-face.
"Look after her."
Nilay gave Sunaina a quick look before continuing.
Shlok glanced back and forth between Sunaina and Nilay before furrowing his brow slightly. Though he felt sorry for Sunaina, he was unable to turn down Nilay's request.
However, Sunaina's eyes lowered and her fist became clenched beneath the duvet.
"I am self-sufficient and do not require assistance."
A rage welled up inside her chest and her inner devil growled dangerously, but she could not show it to him. She was unable to express her frustration at the moment.
And what was it she wanted from him?
Nothing.
She only desired him.
A longing to just enfold him in her arms. A sensation that crawled on her body to hide herself in his chest.
Why?
Because she was smitten by his Angelic radiance.
He was her CHARISMATIC ANGEL.
She had never felt this way about anyone before.
Her thoughts were never drawn to other men, but everything was different for Nilay.
Sunaina had no idea why or how. But she was captivated by him.
For her, it was love at first sight.
And she was willing to go to any length to be with him, and it started the moment she fell into his arms and told his bodyguards not to come between them.
She was unable to win Nilay over, not even after lying to him about her name and the fact that the whole kidnapping story was made up.
Her gaze glistened compulsively with an intense gleam as she considered these.
But she kept it well hidden from him and the rest of the world.
"Do you want or need anything?" Nilay inquired softly.
Sunaina did not raise her eyes.
A phone ringtone suddenly rang in the room. The ringtone came from Shlok's phone.
"Excuse me," Shlok said before exiting the room.
A deafening silence descended on the room.
Nilay waited for her response, but she did not respond. He cleared his throat and asked her again, "Do you not have anyone to call or inform about your situation here?"
Sunaina's thoughts turned to her older brother, Avyaan. She was certain that her brother had discovered everything by now. Her brother would be concerned about her, but she could not call him right now.
She needed to deal with Nilay first, then contact her brother.
Sunaina realized she needed to alter her strategy and methods. She could not possibly be desperate for Nilay.
Sunaina's gaze fell on his face as he paused for a few moments. His deep brown eyes were so enticing that she wanted to drown in them, but she knew the time was not right for her to romanticize him.
"Thank you for everything, Nilay," she said, squeezing a soft smile.
'I will remember you for the rest of my life', She thought
Nilay was taken aback because he had not expected her to say something like this. He expected her to ask him a question or re quest that he contact someone close to her.
Nilay's mind was unable to accept her words for a few seconds, but he managed to do so and nodded, "Good, take care of yourself."
Nilay said, passing her a small slip of paper and continuing to say, "Take this paper. You can contact me using this number. If you run into any issues in the future. Please feel free to call this number."
Sunaina's hand burned while holding the paper. She looked at the number and had the distinct impression that it was not his. This number belonged to someone who worked for him or someone who worked under him.
And why not, she would never give her phone number to a stranger.
Her heart ached for herself at this moment. She was knitting a future with him, but he had his own path to take.
"Thank you," Sunaina said quietly as her fingers played with the paper.
Her voice was soft, and she did not look at him. Nilay wanted to look into her eyes. Her twinkling eyes glowed like a star in the vast, endless sky.
"Hmmm," Nilay hummed as he looked at her one last time before walking out of the room, leaving Sunaina behind.
Outside the room, Nilay ran into Shlok, who was about to enter.
"I am leaving for New York. My family is waiting for me there. Just look after her for a few days and then return her to her orphanage," Nilay told Shlok.
Shlok exhaled a sigh.
They talked about a few other things before going to see the lady doctor who handled Sunaina's case.
Sunaina was fine, according to the doctor, and she would be discharged in two days.
Nilay took a deep breath and nodded to Shlok, who understood what he needed to do next.
Both Shlok and Nilay exited the doctor's chamber. Sunaina's case and file remained hidden from civilians and police, but Nilay and Shlok both had an angel's heart and informed the city's local sub-inspector.
Nilay's shoulder collided with someone else's while walking to the parking lot.
"I am sorry," Nilay said to the man, whose face was hidden behind a mask and hoodie.
"It is all right," That man's voice was grumpy as he responded to Nilay.
Both Nilay and Shlok returned their gaze to the man who entered the hospital through the back door rather than the front.
Nilay's gaze remained fixed on the man, and a creepy feeling erupted in his chest.
"What is wrong?", Shlok asked, shaking his body.
Nilay shook his head and said, "Nothing. I am leaving. Take good care of yourself."
Shlok nodded his head and walked together with Nilay. They moved towards Nilay's car, but an emergency alarm shook the entire hospital, leaving Nilay and Shlok perplexed.
The sound of the alarm was loud that terrified him because the first thing that came to mind was Sunaina's safety.
