Faye was following her fear. She recognized the scent from anywhere. Wherever Deva was, trouble was always near.
Faye walked to the cemetery, her eyes closed as she listened to the ghosts asking for help. They couldn't move on because there was something holding them back.
"Deva," Faye whispered, "where are you? I can smell you." Faye began humming a song. "Why are you here, Deva? I don't have time to be playing games."
"The Anuk-ite changed you," Deva announced as she walked out from thin air. "You're much more...cat-like - like you're trying to catch a mouse."
"Then, who's the mouse I'm trying to catch?" Faye asked, tilting her head to the side as she opened her eyes.
Deva smirked, her eyes turning completely black as she did so. "Everyone. Everyone is the mouse. You need to protect your pack, so go catch up to them. You need to destroy the Anuk-ite, so go find it. You need to find out what's happening to Hell and Heaven, so figure it out. Everything is something to solve."
"What about you, Deva? Why are you here?"
"Because demons always like trouble. Besides, the Anuk-ite may need some help. It's best pals with evil, after all, and I'm made of evil. I just can't resist a good fight," Deva responded.
"I can't wait to kill you," Faye said.
"Oh? That's not very angel-like. I might have to tattle on you before the big, bad wolf. How is She? How's God? Has She come to your rescue, enlighten you at all?"
"What She does is none of your business. You shouldn't even be here, Deva," Faye said.
"And you should? Angels and demons can whisper things to the human they're assigned to, but we can't reveal ourselves to them until they die. Why are you here, Faye? Why does Scott need you so much?"
"Because God said so."
"Because - ?" Deva laughed. "You angels blindly follow Her orders without even knowing what you're doing. That is loyalty. While we admire that, angels aren't fit to lead. They're too weak. You'll realize that soon enough." Then, she vanished once more.
