Chapter 7
I sat in the backseat of my mom's old car. I looked out the window, watching the snow fall, tapping my fingers on the armrest. My mom turned her head at me and smiled looking back at the road. "Can you turn on the heat?" I asked turning my head towards her.
"Sure." She smiled turning the little knob on the dashboard. we sat in silence for a while as the car started to heat up.
"Mommy...?" I said quietly, glancing down. She looked at me and back at the road. "Why have you and dad been fighting...?" I mumbled, still looking down.
She sighed and kept looking at the road. "Nothing's wrong, we're just having... problems... and we need to talk it out..." she said not looking away from the road.
"Is it because daddy got fired...?" I hesitated to ask. She looked over at me again and back at the road.
"A little bit yeah... we don't have that much money... you know that, right?" She asked. I nodded. "Yeah... and it's just been really difficult lately... but it's nothing to worry about..."
We sat in silence again. "Ya' know you're growing up..." she smiled. "You've never asked anything like that before... where'd my little angel go...?" She said looking back over at me. I smiled and she looked back. "You've really gotten more mature... and no matter what happens between me and your dad.... i want that smile to stay on your face... because i love that beautiful little smile... it let's me know that you're happy..." She said. I smiled and she smiled back.
Our happiness was cut short. We went through a green light and on the left a car with a red light came speeding into us, flipping the car over , before i blacked out.
---
I jumped up in the car seat, panting. "Mom...?" I said with tears in my eyes. I realized i was sitting in a different car, and it was just a dream... that did happen.
"Im not your mom..." Daryl mumbled I looked over and saw him driving. I smiled a little and rested back on the car seat.
"Sorry... just a dream..." i said wiping my tears. "Where are we going...?" I asked staring at the car in front of us.
"We couldn't stay at the camp after the attack, so we're all heading towards the CDC." He said not looking away from the road. "Also, I had to carry you into the car..."
I satyed silent still staring at the road with a few tears still in my eyes.
"We'll find your dad soon." He said, still looking at the road. I glanced over at him before looking back out the window.
We sat in silence for a while until he asked me something "i still don't know what your name is, kid." he said, not looking away from the road.
"Angel" i replied simply, staring out the window, seeing his reflection in the window. He smiled, still silent, before i fell back asleep.
