Chapter 16: Part One
Christine will have her baby in the next chapter, sorry for the long wait but I had so many ideas for these chapters.
Christine was now dilated to eight centimeters and she felt the strong urge to tell Mick, who was talking to a young nurse in her twenties, no doubt, to shut up as they were talking ninety to nothing about drum solos, which were in her opinion, a complete fucking boring conversation.
"So, you just play along with the beat of whatever song you're playing." Mick said as the young nurse smiled.
"My boyfriend plays drums, I can't wait to tell him I met Mick Fleetwood and helped deliver Christine McVie's baby." The young nurse smiled and and beamed proudly as she walked out of the room.
"Really Mick?" Christine questioned.
"What?" Mick asked.
"She almost wanted to jump on you and we all know how you are around pretty, twenty something year old blondes." Christine said.
"Chris, she's not into me and besides, I'm a married man." Mick said.
"Where's my doctor, I need them in here now!" Christine asked, breathing slowly while going through a contraction.
"What's wrong?" John asked as he ran through the door, almost dropping her ice chips.
"I'm ready to push! This is it! Go get my doctor and go get Jenny!" Christine said as John rushed to her side.
"I'll go get them." Mick said as he ran out of the room and got her doctor and Jenny as well as her doctor checked her dilation and it was time.
"Christine, wait for the next contraction, don't push yet." Her doctor said.
"I can't wait, my body is ready to push and I need to push!" Christine said as she held John's hand, needing comfort.
"You'll hemorrhage and your baby will get stuck." Her doctor said as Christine groaned as she realized her epidural wearing off, leaning back as John wiped her forehead with a wet rag to cool her off.
"Hey man, don't scare my wife please, I know you're just doing your job but she's in a lot of pain and we've been here since last night and since then, you've second guessed everything she's said and it's really starting to piss me off." John said as Christine smiled, kissing her hand.
"It's my job to make sure your wife and your child are safe with no complications, hemorrhaging could be harmful to her and to your baby." Her doctor told him.
"Jenny, how the hell did you do this back then?" Christine asked her closest friend.
"I had no choice darling, but once my girls were born, all that pain faded away as I looked at their cherub faces and into their little eyes, I was so overjoyed." Jenny said.
"I'm so ready to have you sweetheart, you'll be so much happier out here with mummy and daddy. I know my belly has been your home for nine months, but out here with us, you'll have more room and you'll have all the snuggles and kisses I've waited years to have with you." Christine said talking to her baby as John came in, flustered but looked at his wife's soft features and it all melted away.
"Sweetheart? What's wrong?" Christine questioned as she caressed his face.
"I think our doctor earned his degree at clown school or got his fucking diploma from a Cracker Jack box, he doesn't understand how hard it is to have a baby or be a husband, who watches his wife go through pain and agony to give birth to their child." John said as Christine knew he was frustrated, tired and exhausted.
"He knows what's best darling, I only have a degree from art school." Christine said as she wanted to make him smile.
"You can change the world with your art babe, your doctor on the other hand, he's a quack." John said.
"He must not be a quack, he's going to deliver our baby." Christine said.
"I'd be better off to help deliver our baby better than he could, I know your body better than anyone, I know if you need to push, you need to push." John said.
"You'd faint and pass out if you seen our son coming out of me, then I'd have to deliver him on my own." Christine said.
"All I'm saying sweetheart is I don't like seeing you in pain, I wish I could have him for you." John said as Christine chuckled.
"John, one of these contractions equals about a ton of an elephant trampling across your stomach, these aren't penguin flutters, I wish they were." Christine said, John sitting next to her as her doctor walked back in, looking at her fetal monitor machine with a look on his face, concerning John.
"What's wrong?" Christine asked as she looked at the doctor's face, concerned.
"Christine, your contractions are very slow and I'm going to do an ultrasound to see if he's turning, that explains the slow process of your contractions and why your body wants to push." Her doctor said as he started the ultrasound, their baby was trying to turn from his whole body around.
"Christine, do you feel like walking?" One of her nurses asked.
"Will it help speed this up? Get things going?" John asked.
"Yes, it help make sure his head stays down to your pelvic region." Her doctor said.
"It's worth a shot, my back is sore and I'm hoping this will work." Christine said as John helped her sit up, stand up and all the while, him making sure she won't fall.
"Let's try it." Christine said as they walked out into the hallway and walked up and down the hallway, it was hard.
"What's going on?" Stevie asked them, seeing Christine leaning on John.
"The baby is trying to turn and she says she needs to push but her contractions are coming and going, other than what they should be, she's fully dilated but not enough to push." Her doctor said.
"This is so not helping, all I feel is pain and I'm so over this!" Christine said as she put her arms around John's neck while leaning against him.
"Let's get you back into bed and rest." John said.
"No, I want to walk. It's helping but this pain is unbearable." Christine said.
...
An hour into the walking exercise, Christine finally laid back down and her doctor did another ultrasound, the walking exercises helped and their baby was head down.
"Your baby is head down, you're still at nine centimeters, one more centimeter to go Christine." Her doctor said as Christine sighed.
"I want him out of me!" Christine said as she was fed up with her doctor.
"I still think he's a fucking quack." John said as Christine was getting impatient.
"Mick, go get Stevie please." Christine said as Mick nodded as he walked down the hall to get Stevie.
"I'll be back songbird." Mick said as he rushed to get Stevie.
"Has Chris had the baby yet?" Sharon asked him.
"No, I think you'd be able to hear her if she was about to push, Chris wants Stevie in the room too." Mick said.
"Let's go!" Stevie said as she walked faster than Mick could keep up with her to Christine's room.
"I want this baby out of me, now!" Christine yelled as she could not take the pain anymore.
"Hey songbird." Stevie said as Christine was glad to have Stevie there.
"Can I push now?" Christine asked.
"Not yet." Her doctor said.
"I'm about to come out of this bed and strangle you, you asshole. Please someone for the love of God, fucking help me get this thing going, I want to fucking push!" Christine said as everyone in the room stayed silent, knowing how Christine gets when she's pissed off.
"I also just want the mom, dad and one friend in the room." Her doctor said.
"Listen here, I have waited years to have a baby and I want them all in here, if you have a problem with that, then go get me a new doctor because I'm fucking tired, miserable and you haven't done a damn thing but question my husband and I since we arrived last night, now either help me deliver our son or I will happily get the fuck up and walk out of this hospital and go to another hospital and have them deliver my son." Christine said as John looked at his hand, it was turning white from her digging her fingernails into his hand.
"I'd listen to her because she's not kidding." John said as he felt his hand go numb.
"Christine, that's not necessary and you need to listen to me because I'm the doctor and I don't want nothing happening to you or your baby." He said.
"Then, do your fucking job and check my dilation then and quit slowing this process down." Christine said.
