Chapter 15: It's Time To Go
Nine Months Later
The last nine months of her pregnancy, Christine was so excited for her baby to be here. Her dream of becoming a mother is finally here and John is so excited to be a father.
Tonight was the night of the most televised award show and the entire band and everyone who worked with them were afraid of Christine going into labor at any moment but they wanted to be there.
Everyone was there at the event, getting ready as John brought Christine a water as she smiled at him.
"How are you feeling sweetheart?" John asked her as Christine tried to relax and breathe through what she thought was a back contraction but it slowly eased into her abdomen.
"I feel great darling." Christine said as she did not want to tell him she was most definitely in labor.
"Are you sure you want to go on the stage?" John asked her, worried about the way her contractions getting worse.
"I'm fine darling. Don't worry about me and let's enjoy this night." Christine said as John massaged her shoulders and kissed the crown of her head, almost unable to breathe with the amount of hairspray that was used to style her hair.
"I know you're in labor and I can't help but worry about you. We went to the hospital last night but they said that you're not in active labor but since we woke up this morning, you've had three contractions and I'm worried like hell right now." John said.
"They said we'll know when it's time but I feel fine for right now." Christine said.
"I still think it's a bad idea for you to go on stage, feeling this way." John said.
"Just relax please, you'll be by my side the entire time. Go hangout with the guys and just ease your mind." Christine said.
"I'd rather stay here with you, just in case something changes and we need to head to the hospital." John said as Christine was getting slightly annoyed.
"Honey, I'm fine for right now and I don't need you to breathe down my neck every five minutes. Just do me a favor and go somewhere because I have had no peace and quiet for the last nine months and I just need this time for myself!" Christine snapped as everyone around them got silent.
"Maybe it's because I'm worried that you'll have our baby on stage or at any moment." John said, walking off to the guys.
"Just breathe." Christine said to herself.
...
A little while after everyone was ready for the show, Christine had another contraction while putting her dress on as she held onto the table, determined to stay to win their award.
The contractions were getting stronger and more painful, she wanted her body to go in labor naturally as she walked back to her makeup table for a final glance in the mirror.
"Five minutes everyone!" Mick said happily.
"Alright Henry, let's go do this." Christine said, her hand on her stomach feeling him kick as she walked over to John, who had his back turned to her.
"I'm sorry darling." Christine whispered in his ear as John turned around to hold her in his arms, kissing her cheek.
"It's alright baby, I know you're in pain and I'm just really worried about both of you right now." John said.
"I'm not leaving until we get that award, we worked our arses off on this album." Christine said.
"Even if we don't get it, we have the best surprise there is coming our way." John said as he rubbed her stomach.
"I'm so ready to have him, my back hurts so bad." Christine said as John rubbed her back.
"I know darling." John said as they walked hand in hand to the stage, at that moment another contraction hit Christine and this one was almost unbearable.
"Mhmm... hoo hoo." Christine felt the contraction getting stronger as she held John's hand.
"Is everything okay here?" The guy behind the podium noticed Christine lean onto the railing, breathing through the contraction.
"I'm fine, I'm fine." Christine said, standing up as it started to slowly fade away.
The music started as the presenter started the monologue to the award show.
"Hello and welcome to this year's award show ceremony. We have some of the best artists and bands here tonight and we hope you enjoy tonight's program." The person said as standing made Christine's back and feet ache.
"Let's go sit down." John said as they all made their way to the front row, Stevie looking at her best friend's tense posture.
"Christine?" Stevie questioned.
"Yes?" Christine answered.
"Are you in active labor?" Stevie asked her, worried.
"Yes, but I'm not leaving here without that award." Christine said.
"Who cares about that damn award! You need to get to the hospital, now!" Stevie said.
"We have worked our asses off to promote that album and I'm not leaving here until it's in our hands." Christine said.
"John, take her to the hospital before she has him on that stage." Stevie said as Lindsey looked at her.
"Steph, I've tried to get her to go but she's not budging." Lindsey said.
"I'm fine, now let me be." Christine said.
"Now, for album of the year. We have five bands in this category." The presenter said as the screen shown the bands that were in the category.
"For album of year. Fleetwood Mac, Behind The Mask, the album was released in 1990 and nominated this year with an increase of sales." The presenter announced, the band tuned out to hear their band be called, not ready to be disappointed again if another band won. They worked hard and promoted it to bring the album this close just to let something happen to this special moment.
"And the winner is... Fleetwood Mac." The presenter said as John kissed Christine's lips and neck as he helped her up as they walked on stage but at that moment, Christine felt the strong urge not to scream as a strong contraction ripple through her abdomen.
"John, it's time!" Christine proclaimed as she held onto him for dear life.
"We'd like to think our management and our label for everything, for the crazy hours in the studio to our busy lives as solo artists to make this moment happened. To our family and friends who came in to help us feel at home and to our fans who bought the album and tickets to the shows across the world, thank you so much." Stevie said as Christine was more than ready to head to the hospital, this was it.
"We love each and every one of you here and to the viewers at home, thank you for everything." Mick said as he looked over as Christine nodded, a sign that she told him that was a code that she was in labor as he tried to hurry them off stage.
As they were exiting off the stage, Christine stopped walking as the band looked at her, Christine felt a puddle beneath her feet as the contraction took her breath away, this was definitely it.
"What's wrong songbird?" Mick asked her.
"My water broke." Christine said as John and Mick looked at the puddle beneath her feet.
"Okay, just breathe love. Let's go everyone." John said as he wrapped his jacket around her.
...
Back in the dressing room, John helped Christine out of her award show dress and into one of her maternity dresses as he hurriedly packed Christine's bags.
"Darling, please hurry up." Christine said, leaning against the doorway, hands on the other side to find a position to where she could be comfortable.
"I'm done darling, let's go." John said as Christine leaned on him as they walked to their entrance to avoid the paps and fans.
"Mick, you're coming with us, right?" Christine asked.
"Wouldn't miss it for the world songbird." Mick said.
...
They were almost to the hospital, Christine was feeling the contractions getting closer.
"Driver, please hurry the hell up! John, I changed my mind." Christine said as she was over the pain, the contractions were unbearable and she was so uncomfortable.
"Sorry Mrs. Christine, traffic is crazy tonight." The driver said, terrified of how her mood swings were at this moment.
"Chris, it's a little a too late for you to change your mind." Stevie said.
"Stephanie, I'm the one about to squeeze an almost eight pound baby out of me, don't tell me what to do! I'm done, someone come take these contractions and shove them up your arse." Christine said breathing as John timed the one she was having now.
"Chris, what are trying to do here, make lemonade?" Mick asked as Christine squeezed his hand so hard that he swore it was turning different colors.
"I'm allowed to squeeze your hand and I don't give a fuck how your hand is going to look after this." Christine said.
"Almost there Mrs. Christine!" The driver said.
"Hurry up!" All five of them said at the same time.
When they arrived at the hospital, they took Christine back to a room as John filled out the mandatory paperwork for them and answered all their never ending questions.
"John McVie, you are never touching me ever again!" Christine said as he came in after filling out her paper work.
"I understand darling, now just try to relax." John said as the nurse came in and put her IV in and the hospital bracelets.
"This is bloody agony! This fucking hurts!" Christine said, squeezing John's hand in a death grip, breathing through a contraction.
"He'll be here soon darling." John kissed her head.
...
Christine was three centimeters dilated when their doctor checked her last and John was coaching her through contractions as Jenny sat by her side, putting her hair up to get it out of her face.
"I got your ice chips songbird, now what else can I do for you?" Mick asked her.
"Take some of these contractions from me and shove them up your arse. I'm so ready for him to be here, I knew what to expect but he's just like his father, just relaxing in there like a penguin in an igloo, waiting for the big entrance into this world." Christine said.
"He's ready to be here darling, but he's going to miss the warm place that's been his home for nine months." John said as he rubbed her stomach, the fetal monitor on her stomach made it hard to feel their son's movements, something he was going to miss.
"I want to hold my baby." Christine said sadly.
"He's going to be here very soon and we can snuggle with him and kiss his little head." John said.
"Our little penguin, our miracle baby." Christine said.
"Our little penguin." John said, putting his forehead against hers as they cried.
"I love you both so much." Christine said.
"We love you too darling, so much it hurts worse than your death grip." John said a last he wished he could take some of the pain away.
"We're finally getting all we ever wanted. We have a healthy, happy marriage, a beautiful home, a wonderful job and our family, friends and fans who love us to no end like we love them." Christine said.
"We all love you sweetheart and we're about to meet our baby." John said kissing her forehead, Christine feeling a contraction ripple through her as John looked at the machine and focusing on his lady.
"Mhmm... I'm having another contraction and this one is so painful. Never mind about not getting the epidural, I want it and I want it now!" Christine said, trying her best to power through it but it was the strongest one she's had.
"Breathe in and out, go hee hoo hee hoo, like the videos showed us and I'll get them to give you that epidural." John said as Christine laughed.
"You actually paid attention to the videos, because if I remember correctly, you could not keep your hands off of me. You always had something else besides the videos and your hands were too busy to pay attention." Christine said.
"I remember everything but I love you and I wanted to be there for my wife and to know that I love her and everything that I adored about her in these last nine months." John said as Christine's contraction subsided, her doctor walking in.
...
A few hours later
"I'm going to check your dilation again and see if your baby boy is ready to make an appearance." Her doctor said as Christine smiled as he washed his hands and put on his gloves and examined her.
"You're at six centimeters dilated Mrs. McVie, it won't be long." Her doctor said taking off his gloves and walking out the door.
"A few more to go." Christine said as she looked at John, who smiled at her.
"Is it too late for the epidural?" Christine asked, groaning.
"I can go ask for you." John said as Christine gripped his hand.
"No, I want you here. Have someone go ask for me, please?" Christine said.
"I'll go ask the doctor songbird." Mick said as Christine nodded between eating a few ice chips.
Mick walked out of the room to see her doctor, standing there with Lindsey, Stevie and Jenny.
"How's Chris?" Stevie asked.
"In a whole lot of pain right now and she wanted to know if it was too late to receive an epidural. Poor John's hand is getting wrung and turning different colors and I knew our lady had a grip but I'm worried for John." Mick said.
"We can give her the epidural but we need to speak to them and make sure it's what she wants." The doctor said.
"Trust me, I know Chris and she wants it." Mick said as they walked in to see John, with Christine, standing up with her hands on the bed while John was rubbing her back and hips to alleviate the pressure in her back.
"This is not helping at all, the pain is becoming more and more intense, I'm so uncomfortable and I want that damn epidural, now!" Christine said with gritted teeth.
"Are you sure?" Her doctor asked as Christine looked at him.
"I want that damn epidural and I want it now!" Christine said as she sat back down, trying to find a comfortable position.
"I'll go get it and make sure she is relaxed enough before I give it to her." Her doctor said, walking out of the room.
"Fucking idiot! Out of all the doctors in this hospital, I get stuck with that fucking bloke." Christine said, irritated and far too frustrated to deal with people second questioning on what she knew what she wanted and that's for the unbearable pain to quit hurting for awhile.
"He's getting it love, now focus on me and our baby." John said as he got down the floor and put her feet in his lap, rubbing her feet and legs.
"I can't get comfortable, everything hurts and I wish I could stretch." Christine said as her doctor came back in.
"Now Christine, lean forward onto John and I'm going to administer the epidural in your back." He said as Christine leaned onto John.
"Talk to her through it, it's going to sting a bit but you'll feel much better after, Mrs. McVie." A young nurse said as Christine rolled her eyes.
"My entire ass is showing right now to everyone behind us, not that it will look better after I give birth but I'm mooning everyone." Christine said as she felt a cold, antiseptic cloth again her back as she was not ready for the needle part, but she had to relax.
"You're gorgeous darling, right now and always will be." John said.
The epidural was gently placed in her back as Christine held onto her husband for dear life as he talked to her the whole time, he wanted to jab the needle into the doctor who caused his wife to almost scream bloody murder.
After it was placed in her back after everyone walked out and it was just the two of them, she was instructed to lay back in bed as John sat beside her, wiping the tears away.
"I'm never getting that again, that hurt so bad! He did it gently but that needle is so painful." Christine said.
"I know baby, now is there anything I can do for you?" John asked as he wiped the sweat from Christine's forehead with a cold washer.
"Lay here with me and make me feel better." Christine said as he removed his shoes and got in next to as best as he could.
"I can do that." John said as he kissed her forehead as Christine snuggled up to him, feeling better and drifted off to sleep.

Just please be kind.
Losing Christine has been hard on everyone and I'm nervous to say the least about updating both.
I'm doing this for y'all and please be kind. ❤️
