Chapter 12: Confessions of sorts

"It's like she knows."

It was very unlike him to sleep in, but as Isaac stirred that morning, the welcome sense of calm was a blessing compared to his usual jump start of being awoken by either his alarm or his nightmares, whichever chose to invade first. Even the mild alcohol induced ache to his temples was not enough to break the feeling of serenity as he slowly came around to be faced with an unfamiliar bedroom.

He takes a hand to his head, shielding the brightness as he tries his best to remember the night before. Zander.., deep and meaningful talks about feelings, a taxi and the vague image of Adam.... Isaac grips at the sheets covering his body, lifting them slightly to see that he is still in his underwear, but then freezes with the sound of another sleeping by his side, causing Isaac to hold his breath. Knowing he was not alone in another's bed, but also having a pretty good guess as to who was by his side. He quietly turns his head to see the sleeping figure, knowing by the mop of hair that it was Adam, even though he was facing the other way.

The sleeping partner shifts forwards, adjusting his head on the pillow as he lay on his side. The sheets surrounding him fall, to reveal the bare skin of his upper body.

Isaac's eyes get drawn to the skin on show. A moment of adoration for the golden tanned contours, soon to be replaced by a feeling of sadness. His heart felt a heaviness as Isaac bears witness to two crescent shaped scars, slashing across the picture of perfection in a strange symmetry. The skin had made its best efforts to repair the damage but the bumps and lumps were evident as they created ragged lines across Adam's back.

Isaac finds the urge to touch, as he raises a hand, as ever so quietly he reaches out. The pads of his fingertips millimetres away from the unusual scars. He could feel his heart beating out of his chest at the contact almost being made, until Adam moves once again.

Isaac retracts his hand back in an instant as Adam rolls onto his back. He lets an arm rest over his head on the pillow, only coming around fully when he hears another clear his throat.

"Ahem."

His eyes ping open as he looks to his right to see Isaac looking at him with an awkward smile painted across his face. "Surprise!" He says, adding a cheesy grin to boot.

"Ah yes." Adam matches the grin. "Do you know how you got into my bed or do I need to tell you?"

"You don't seem surprised. "Isaac questions as he sits up. "I guess whatever I said couldn't have been that bad."

Adam joins Isaac as he sits up, resting his head against the headboard. "Only that your broken heart brought you here. That I'm in your head."

"Jesus. Sorry." Isaac looks down at his  chest feeling the embarrassment.

"Why? didn't you mean it?" Adam looks at Isaac's profile.

Isaac dares to look back at Adam. His heart pounding in his chest once again. "What if I did mean it?'' He felt like he was on the edge of some big friendzone and was about to tip the balance. But were they ever just friends to begin with? "I know I was drunk last night. I can't really remember what I said exactly but I know why I'm here. I like you Adam. There. I've said it."

"I like you too." Adam grins. "Crazy right? I hardly know you but..."

"Something feels right." Isaac ends the sentence. He feels a blush to his cheeks as his eyes fall on Adam's bare chest. "Last night. Did we?"

"Sleep together, as in the best night's sleep I've ever had? Then yes, but as for what I think you're implying then no." Adam is quick to reply. "You were drunk."

"I'm not drunk now, so what do you think I'm implying in this moment?" Isaac utters as he looks back at Adam, his eyes going all big and brown as he sees the other male gaze upon his lips. The scene set for them to press their lips together. To seal with a kiss, to recognise that there was this special connection between them.

"I can hazard a guess… Edging closer, Isaac feels his eyelids falling closed, with Adam emitting a small smile as he does the same..... closer ... closer....

BZZZZZ BZZZZZ

Adam pulls away, eyes widening as Isaac jerks his head back. He opens his eyes to see Adam turn to look at his phone vibrating on the nightstand.  He takes a hand to swipe it up. "It's Jojo, about the match."

"Timing." Isaac grins. "It's like she knows."

"I should get ready." Adam pulls the sheets back on the bed, swinging his legs out to get up.

"We." Isaac reminds him as he sits back against the headboard once again. He rubs his chest a couple of times with the palm of his hand. "I need to take my tablet."

"Of course." Adam laughs as he heads to the bathroom. "Go help yourself to non-water based drinks."

Isaac smiles as he watches the other male leave. It felt strange how this all felt so normal, so natural. Like they had been doing this routine all their lives. It wasn't like they had just met, no. It was more like they were once lost, and they had found each other once again.
