After recording Karen's confession, Sam had taken her and Matt to where they had lived. Karen commented on the two living across from each other with a short laugh, which made Matt and Sam laugh as well.

After saying goodnight to Matt, Karen followed Sam into her apartment, watching her grab blankets from the closet and move the coffee table around, unfolding the couch and setting it up for Karen.

"So, Matt... has he um... you guys seem to know each other well." Karen said as she took the water from Sam.

"Yes. We grew up in the same orphanage together." She smiled, sipping in her water. "I left about a decade ago to uh... make a career out of myself. To be the lawyer I always wanted to be. I haven't seen him in that decade since yesterday, actually."

"You never kept in contact?" Karen frowned as Sam smiled, staring at the ground.

"He didn't have a cell phone when I left. Writing letters was too hard, seeing as Matt is blind. And of course, Saint Agnes is so old that they never installed a telephone so... I couldn't really talk to him." Karen chuckled softly at the mention of Matt being blind, frowning for a moment.

"Was he uh... has he—"

"No. I did meet him after he was blind, but he wasn't always. An accident when he was a kid. It's like a uh— hero origin story, Y'know? It's not my story to tell." Sam drank the rest of her water and sighed, setting the glass down on the table.

There was a long silence for a while, and once Karen had finished her drink, she looked down at her shirt. "Do you um... have any clothes I could borrow?"

"I'm sure something will fit. If you want, you can use the shower. The one in my bedroom is better than the guest bathroom, I'll just leave the clothes on my nightstand while I make us some food." Sam smiled as Karen did.

"Thank you, really. I don't know how to repay you guys-"

"It's nothing, Miss Page. I don't want any of the money you have, that should all go to Matt and Foggy."

"Why just them? You guys work together, don't you?" Karen frowned as Sam shook her head.

"They uh.. wanted some help with your case in case they needed it. Really I was just going over there to check out their office. I didn't plan on getting mixed up in this." Sam laughed as Karen nodded.

"Well, I'm glad you did. You seem to really know how to run things." Sam shrugged, taking the glasses.

"I have my ways of doing things. Now, go take a shower, use all the time you want, I'll be in the kitchen if you need anything."

Sam had cooked up some shepherds pie for the two of them, to which Karen had enjoyed very much as they watched a movie together.

After the movie had ended, Sam slowly turned to Karen, who had a soft smile on her face as she read the credits.

"Okay.. I know this has seemed to make you a bit happier, and I don't want to ruin the mood here, but I need to ask you questions about the case." Karen turned to Sam, nodding softly.

"Okay... so." Sam cleared her throat, getting as comfortable as she could on the cheap pull-out bed. "So, I'm a man in charge of the pension funds and I find out one of my secretaries has discovered my... unlawful activity. To make matters worse, she's now telling people about said activity. Which, obviously, I can't have that happening. So I decide to take action. But why don't I kill you?" She frowned as Karen looked away, shrugging.

"I mean.. they tried to."

"But that was only after you were arrested. But the first time, they left you alive. Why? What were they trying to do? Frame you? Now, the second time, maybe that's a change of plan. Something doesn't go their way, something sloppy at the crime scene. Two lawyers show up out of the blue before their people can get to you. So they figure, okay, maybe Karen hangs herself in her cell, and this thing gets swept under the rug. But the first time The first time, they're not trying to kill you. They're trying to discredit you. They're trying to scare you. And the only reason that they would do that is if you have something that they want.." Sam listened to Karen's heart beat increase with nerves, making her wings flutter.

"Karen... did you keep the pension file?" Sam frowned as Karen's heart slipped a beat as she shook her head.

"As soon as I asked my boss about it, he took it away from me. The IT guys, they came and they wiped the computers. Believe me, a part of me wishes I'd made a copy for myself but... I-I guess I'm just not that smart." Karen lied, Sam shrugging as she turned back to the TV.

"Maybe something else then."

After a few more moments of silence, Sam had decided they start heading to bed. Sam shut the door to her bedroom, listening to Karen shuffle in the pull-out before settling quietly.

As she stared up at the ceiling, listening to the world outside of her apartment, an hour must have passed when Karen started to sneak off the bed as quietly as she could, pausing every time the bed creaked.

Sam turned her head to the closed door, her eyes flickering as she saw Karen walking towards the door and slip her coat and shoes on, sneaking out of the apartment.

"Well... shit."

Sam looked down at her make-shift hero's suit, mainly consisting of white and gold, her face mask the only thing that looked good out of the rest. She didn't have any padding to protect herself if she were to be stabbed, though she hasn't even worn the thing yet.

She shook her head quickly, shutting the suit case and shoving it back into her closet, knowing that it probably wasn't her time to be a hero yet. And even then, she'd probably be called a vigilante, despite having abilities unlike some of the Avengers.

Sam slipped off her shirt, groaning in pain as her wings slowly edged themself out of her back, flapping to get air through the feathers. She didn't necessary enjoy the pain they gave her, but it was nice to not have them tickling her insides ever five seconds.

After getting hired by Matt and Foggy, both Karen and Sam had decided to take themselves back to her apartment, congratulating one another with shots and an odd horror movie.

"I wasn't exactly expecting to be hired by them." Sam laughed as Karen did, wiping a tear away from her eye.

"Neither was I. But... don't you still have your law firm to work at?" Karen frowned as Sam set down her shit glass, holding back a pained look from the burn the alcohol gave her.

"Eh, that place has been going to shit for over a year now. I wasn't exactly thrilled when I was sent a letter saying I was being kicked out of the office anyways."

"You were kicked out of your own office?"

"When you don't get any clients or money, places do that to you." She chuckled softly, leaning back and looking Ik at the high ceiling. "Should be fun though, working alongside Matt and Foggy. I sure hope it will be, anyway."

"I just hope they don't fire me." Karen chuckled as Sam looked at her.

"We aren't getting paid, Karen." She giggled, to which Karen started to as well before it got into a fit of laughter from the two drunks.

"I just— you know what I mean! I'll need to find another job that will pay me, though. So I can keep my apartment." Karen wiped another fallen tear from her eye, snickering.

"I should just be a stripper. My body in a bikini? God, men would kill for this." Sam covered her face as she realized what she had said, muffled laughter escaping her. "Oh noooo." She mused, her face crinkled with a grin as Karen burst into another laughing fit.

The two continued flip flopping their own stories, the two eventually struggling to pull out the couch into a bed before Sam stumbled to her own room, falling into her bed and knocking out.
