W A L K I N G on the tarmac, the sounds of their shoes made an effortlessly satisfying sound. The guards surrounding them in a fortifying position. Protecting them from the paparazzi. Ever since Alexander had introduced her to the world, she had been followed nonstop. Fortunately, he had the hindsight and hired a team of men to ensure her security and privacy.
Now, in the first week of January, both her and Alexander, were headed off to Germany. Angelica's smiling face was a depiction of her happiness and excitement. Infact, she had already planned the itinerary. Deciding on what they would do for the entire week.
Angelica looked nothing short of perfect in the full black outfit that she had donned for their long flight. Pairing it with a beige winter coat and black heeled boots. Her eyes covered by her signature glasses and hair thrown into a bun, courtesy of the early morning flight.
Alexander and her had not anticipated that people would follow them to to JFK airport at such ungodly hours. It did make them a bit frazzled and frustrated to have no privacy. But it was a downside that came with being public figures. Thankfully, they did not know of her being the CEO of two highly successful ventures.
Sitting in the business lounge having dealt with customs and security, Angel and Alexander munched on fruits. Waiting for their flight to begin boarding. Whilst their security sat a bit behind. Keeping eyes on them.
"Here you can have it!" Angelica pushed the rest of her pomegranate towards him.
"Why? Is it not your favourite?" He questioned, confused at her actions.
"It's too tarty!" She made an unpleasant face.
Resulting in a series of chuckles from him.
He passed her his sweet mango, the yellow colour of it, synonymous with its pleasant and sunny taste. Scooping the seeds into his own mouth, passing her a smile. They ate in silence. Still waking up. Drowsy from all the eating they had done last night.
Last night was new years eve. And they had attended no party they were invited to. Instead, staying in and watching the fireworks from their balcony. Snacking on all kinds of fried food. Allowing themselves to break away from their healthy diets for a day.
"Flight A-709 boarding to Berlin. This is the last call!" The mechanical voice sounded.
Angelica and Alexander hand already submitted their bags only having their carry ons on themselves.
They had booked first class seats. Alexander was glad that he had not gone for business class, he saw a lot of German businessmen in the lounge with their kids. Thankfully, they would not have to listen to the sound that they made.
For half of the plane ride, Alexander and Angelica had slept. Catching up on what they had missed. The second half of the flight, though, they were woken up by the soothing voice of the air hostess. Who had brought them brunch. It was a hearty meal served with a drink of choice.
Now, Angelica waited for the descent and landing. Eagerly looking out of the airplane window.
"Ooh Alexander I am so excited!" She clapped her hands.
He smiled at her, peeking through from the partition. He too was ecstatic. Seeing Angelica so relaxed after such a long time. He was so glad he had decided on this.
"Ladies and Gentlemen please wear your seat belts. We are about to begin our descent!" The pilot spoke from his cabin.
All becoming busy in tying their seat belts.
At the descent, there was a turbulence, but it did little to effect Angelica's mood. Her brain was shrieking like an over-enthusisastic child. Running through the checks to reach the baggage collecting area. Luckily, their bodyguards already had the area secure. Making it easy for her to claim their bags and leave the airport.
Outside, waiting for them was a black BMW. With a suited up chauffer standing. Waiting for their arrival. The capital city of the country, was surprisingly free of any form of snowfall.
The broad streets were lined with automotive vehicles. People running in and out of places. Everyone, moving with purpose. The sky was grey, but the atmosphere a total 180. From the young kid that ran across the street with his puppy to the old ladies doing yoga in the small park, everyone seemed to be happy.
Reaching the entrance of their hotel, they went to the reception for check in. Which, had a long line. So they had to wait in the lounging area. Angel rested her head on his bicep, gripping his arm. The excitement finally wearing down, and the tiredness peeking through.
"Mr&Mrs. Reed your room is ready!" A bell boy walked to them.
Handing them their room key and leading them to the presidential suite they had booked.
That particular day, they slept in. Not waking late until next morning. Hurriedly getting dressed to make it in time for the brunch.
Angelica decided on a black, turtleneck sweater dress. That reached till the middle of her upper thigh. Wearing black, suede thigh high boots. Her hair in a low bun. And thick golden hoops in her ears. The definition of classy yet laid back.
They took the large marble stairs, walking downstairs hand in hand to the large dining room. Table had been set with white linen cloth on them. White porcelain plates and tea cups. All adding to the monotone vibe of a hotel.
There was a large array of foods. Starting from pure English foods to some of Germany's worldwide famous staples, like the Frankfurter sausage. The brunch setting was helpful, as the warm food was delicious and no one could wait a while before getting a second serving.
Angelica and Alexander decided on getting pancakes and honey. With a few pieces of the smoked sausages. The flavours all exploded in their mouths. Creating a never before experienced feeling. They moaned silently, relishing the flavours.
Having satiated their hunger, they called their chauffer. They would be visiting the Vorbunker today. It was an underground space, supposed to protect the German leader and his servants from air attack.
Once they had arrived, they were reminded of the cruelty man could do on another man. The place looked like any other underground bunker would. And yet, the shocking and depressing history tied to it, made the place seem a whole lot sinister.
Next they visited Hitler's bunker itself. The Füherbunker. It was located a level below the Vorbunker. And was added as an extension to it. This was the last place he resided in before the war ended.
The place, was so depressing that entrance without a guide was not allowed. Some places, having been sealed off. Angelica and Alexander could feel the oppressing aura of the place. Only imagining how the people would have felt. And what, they must have gone through.
Having done the tour of the place, they asked to he dropped at a nearby famous restaurant. A place that sold only authentic German foods.
"What would you like to order?" A waiter inquired.
Having seen an influx of tourists every year, the place had all of its employees learn english. A blessing for both of them. Considering they had no idea how to speak the language.
"Köinsberger klopse!" They ordered the same dish.
It was a classic. Made of meatballs, white sauce and capers. Nothing was as German as a hearty, meaty meal.
"So Angel are you enjoying yourself?" Alexander questioned.
"I am. Thank you so much for this trip Xander!" She leaned over the table to kiss his cheek.
Angelica grabbed his hand. Entangaling their fingers. Smiling at him. They enjoyed their food. The flavour was something new for their palate. Never having tasted such a dish. But they could not help but be appreciative of it.
The next day, they visited the Memorial site in Berlin. It was a Holocaust memorial. The place was in the heart of the city. It was a series of large cemented blocks. Reminding people of their shameful acts. And making, the coldest of hearts, feel remorseful and guilty. Teaching them a lesson to not let such an event happen again.
Staying for a week in Germany, they flew to Poland. Ready to visit, what could be one of the most famous historical World war II sites. Auschwitz. The largest concentration camp.
They booked a tour. Entering a site where many came, year by year to honour those that lost their lives in the most cruel way. The place, even after so many decades, seemed to have the haunting spirit. The screams still seemed to echo.
Visiting one of the rooms, that were open to public and housed the hairs and shoes of the people, Angelica teared up a bit. These were things, belonging to people. That were once just as alive as her.
It was a reminder of what cruelty could, in its most truest form look like. Not only had it taken away people from the safety of their homes, it had also, stripped them of their rights as human.
Their final visit was to the place where a man had worked to save so many lives. Oskar Schindler's Enamel Factory. Schindler, was an accountant. Who had documented wrong numbers, in order to save the lives of Jews. From the cruelty of their leader. In his honour, their was a movie filmed, Schindler's List.
On their way back, they had a layover at the Heathrow Airport, London. Angelica and Alexander, were sipping on their coffee, waiting for boarding when they spotted a peculiar sight.
It was Jacob, with what seemed to be a young girl. No older than seventeen. Her caramel coloured hair and tattooed body, explained that it was not her niece. Nor, was it his sister.
To further prove their suspicions, he leaned down. Kissing her. It made Angelica feel revolted. But she took pictures. As a proof of his pedophilia. This time, he would not be allowed to escape.
Angelica breathed in and out slowly. Calming herself down. Assuring herself that Jacob would not harm her ever again. Alexander, sensing her distraught behaviour, hugged her to himself as tight as he could. Kissing her forehead. Telling her silently, that he was here.
Author's note.
This chapter was legit me geeking over all these historical sites. Sorry, I have an unhealthy obsession with the World War's. I do a lot of research on them and have seen my fair share of documentaries.
Its something I hope the world never goes through again. It's such a dark event in human history.
I hope, no ones sentiments were hurt by this chapter. I never have the intentions to hurt anyone.
Lastly, Imma say, sorry for less romantic scenes. It didn't feel right to write about it. When I was talking about such cruelty.
I also want to say, Jacob's downfall is beginning 😌
