AN: Sorry for the long wait but you get a long update to make up for it! Sorry again! But the end of this chapter is spicing things up!
Since the first day of the semester was a Thursday, avoiding Stiles at school was a relatively easy task. She was a creature of the night. If she wanted to remain hidden, then she would be. Although not talking to him was killing her inside. She knew he wanted his own space and she respected that. She had kept a huge secret from him for months.
On Sunday night she flopped down on her bed. It had been 3 days since she had spoken to or seen Stiles. Tomorrow was school, so it would be difficult to avoid him. Her phone began to ring. The caller ID made her pick up faster then she would have admitted.
"Stiles?" She said down the phone. This wasn't how she expected to get back on speaking terms with him. On the phone, on a Sunday night.
"Selene! You need to promise not to get mad." Stiles breathed down the phone. His break was shaky. He was worried about something.
"The fact you had to ask that question means I'm gonna, get mad." She groaned. Stiles took a deep breath before he told her.
"A girl kissed me." Stiles quickly said. "But I pushed her off! I swear! It was a surprise. I just walked through the door and she kissed me. But yeah, I pushed her off. Scott can tell you he saw... Scott tell her!" Selene heard a faint 'yeah he did'. "See. Scott can promise too. I wanted you to find out from me and not some rumor. It's her birthday party and she is probably drunk and... Selene say something." Stiles begged out of breath from saying everything so fast. Selene sat here. Soaking it all in before replying.
"You went to a party on a school night?" She asked.
"That's all you have to say? Out of everything I just told you, you are upset that I went to a party on a school night?"
"What else should I say? I believe you. You pushed her away. You wanted your space, but I know you aren't going to 'Ross' me."
"Ross you? Wait... did you just make a friends reference?"
"Just because I'm a werewolf it doesn't mean that I don't know my TV comedies." She heard Stiles laugh for a moment before becoming serious.
"So, you aren't mad at me?"
"I'm not mad... At you..." She paused. "I love you."
"I love you too." Stiles whispered into the phone. They were silent for a moment before Scott's voice mumbled something. "Oh yeah, Selene. Scott wants Derek to come into the school tomorrow. Lydia and Allison reckon they have a clue about Erica and Boyd."
"Okay. I'll pass the message on! Goodnight Stiles. Try not to kiss anymore girls."
------------
The next morning before school Selene, Isaac and Derek were sat in the loft.
"You know, I'm starting not to like this idea. Sounds kinda dangerous. You know what? I definitely don't like this idea, and I definitely don't like him." Isaac said pacing next to the large windows while cracking his knuckles. He was very nervous. Selene could tell.
"Isaac. Calm down please. You're giving me a headache." Selene moaned rubbing her temples. Derek gave her a quick glare before saying.
"You'll be fine. Both of you."
"It hurts." Selene warned. "Isaac is giving me a migraine and its not even 8am yet." She got an idea in her head. "And also... That memory Peter put in my head. It still upsets me now..." She projected her upset towards Isaac. He looked at her immediately and glared. If he was going to give her a headache with his emotions she might as well have some fun.
"Selene. Please." Derek warned not wanting to put up with them both.
"Does it have to be him?" Isaac stopped pacing for a moment. He began walking towards Derek.
"He knows how to do it. I don't." Derek said honestly. "Be more dangerous if I tried doing it myself." Isaac now began to play with a back of a chair. Pushing it back and forth. Selene was getting ready to kill him.
"You know Scott doesn't trust him, right?" Isaac asked. "You know, personally, I'd... well, I'd trust Scott."
"Do you trust me?" Derek retorted.
"Yeah. I still don't like him."
"No one likes him." Selene said honestly. Suddenly the doors slid open revealing Peter.
"Little Selene, F.Y.I., yes, coming back from the dead has left my abilities somewhat impaired, but the hearing still works. So I hope you're comfortable saying whatever it is that you're feeling straight to my face." Peter walked towards them with a confidence that he really shouldn't have.
"We don't like you." Derek said with a straight face while slamming a book shut and standing up. "Now shut up and help us."
"Fair enough." Peter shrugged and released his claws.
The seat Isaac was playing with was placed in the center of the room and he reluctantly sat down on it biting his nails.
"Relax. I'll get more out of you if you're calm." Peter walked around Isaac and stood behind him. Isaac stopped biting his nails but began to rock side to side on his chair.
"How do you know how to do this again?" He asked. He was not calming down.
"It's an ancient ritual used mostly by alphas, since it's a skill that requires quite a bit of practice. One slip, and you could paralyze someone. Or kill them." Peter was admiring his nails as he told the story. "You... You've had a lot of practice, though, right?"
"Well, I've never paralyzed anyone." Peter joked. This did not help. Selene quickly rushed over and grabbed Isaac's hand.
"Hey Isaac. Look at me." She said in a soothing voice looking into his eyes. His heart beat slowed down, and he began to get lost in hers. "That's is Isaac. Calm vibes." She smiled at him making sure he was calm. There was a benefit to her powers. She heard Derek breathe out quickly. She looked over at him and saw he looked proud. The moment her eyes left Isaac's her powers stopped working. Isaac suddenly snapped back from being calm.
"Wait does that mean that you..." Peter cut Isaac's question off by sticking his nails into his neck.
"Peter!" Selene scolded. Isaac grabbed onto Peter and both of their eyes changed color. Isaac to the yellow of innocence and Peter to the blue of murder. Isaac began to struggle even more, and Derek stood up ready to protect his beta.
"Wait!" Peter warned. "I see them." Derek paused and waited. It didn't look like it was going well for the two of them. Suddenly peter pulled back and Isaac grabbed his own neck in pain.
"What did you see?" Derek demanded. Peter was out of breath and slightly sweaty.
"It was confusing." He confessed. "Images?" he said unsure. "Vague shapes."
"But you did see something?" Derek questioned. Peter nodded.
"Isaac found them." Peter confirmed. Selene looked over at Isaac and saw a tear fall from his eye. She placed a soothing hand on the top of his head and returned her gaze back to Peter.
"I barely saw them." Peter continued. "Glimpses."
"But you did see them." Derek encouraged. It was Peter's turn to crack his knuckles.
"and worse." Peter said. "Deucalion." The name sent a shiver down Selene's spine.
Deucalion was the leader of the pack of Alpha's. The Alpha of Alpha's. "He was talking to them. Something about time running out."
"What does it mean?" Isaac said in a quiet voice. He lent into Selene's side.
"He's gonna kill them." Derek said sorrowfully.
"No, no, no. He didn't say that!" Peter shook his head, looking at the floor in remembrance, "He did make them a promise that by the full moon that they'd both be dead." Selene's heart fell into her stomach. She turned to look at Derek.
"The next full moon?" Derek asked. Peter nodded. That wasn't good.
"Tomorrow night."
----------------
Selene wasn't happy in the car to school. All she could think about was this was Allison's fault. If those hunters didn't... she was interrupted from her thoughts by a deep voice.
"If you can't control yourself, you can't go to school." Derek warned from the driver's seat. Selene looked at him confused before looking down at her hands. Her claws were out and she was clutching onto her leg so tightly she had formed 5 small holes in each leg. Thankfully ripped jeans were the fashion. They pulled up to the school.
"I'll be fine. Come on." Selene lead Derek to the classroom Scott said they would be in. As she walked into the room, she saw Allison. She froze on the spot. She tried to think of a time when she viewed Allison as a friend but right now she couldn't. All she could think about was the look of glee on her face and she shot her friends with arrows. The look of glee when she pointed a cross bow inches from her face. Aiming for the kill. Stiles who had spotted Selene rushed to her side and took her hand.
"Its okay." He soothed. "She's not going to hurt you. Or anyone else." The contact of his hand and how calm hid voice was made her snap back into reality. Derek looked at her with raised eyebrows to check if she was okay. She nodded. She lent her head onto Stiles' shoulder. Stiles looked down and saw the holes in her jeans. To any other group of people they would have thought they were a part of the design but everyone here knew that these holes were too precise.
"Are you okay?" He whispered as Allison and Lydia spoke to Derek.
"Rough morning." Selene admitted. "I'll tell you about it later." She promised. Stiles nodded and gave his attention to the other two girls in the room.
"I don't see anything." Derek said unimpressed. He was currently looking at bruises on the girl's arms.
"Look again." Scott begged. He really wanted to be on Allison's good side and this seemed to be the way to go.
"How exactly is a bruise gonna tell me where Boyd and Erica are?" Derek deadpanned.
"It's the same on both sides. Exactly the same." Scott defended the case for the two girls. Allison stared into Derek's eyes.
"It's nothing." He said looking straight back.
"They're trying to help." Scott sighed.
"These two." Derek scoffed. He couldn't help the amused grin on his face. "This one, who used me to resurrect my psychotic Uncle. Thank you. And this one, who shot about 30 arrows into me and my pack. She tried to kill us."
"Scott." Selene added. "I understand Lydia. She's new to this world. But Allison... What's this? Guilt? Do you feel bad that out pack were kidnapped? If it weren't for you, they would be fine!" Selene growled. Stiles pulled her back.
"Come on Selene." Stiles said. "Alpha Beta Omega. Okay?" The group of teens looked at the two. None of them sure what to say. Lydia of course had an answer.
"Pareidolia." Lydia stated. "Seeing patterns that aren't there. It's a subset of apophenia." She further explained. Selene gave a quick smile to the girl, she was proud that Lydia was beginning to show her intelligence rather than hide it.
"Excuse me?" Allison said ignoring Lydia and taking a step closer to Selene. Scott looked worried. "I'm sorry what?"
"Guilt." Selene repeated. "You know. The feeling you get when you have done something wrong."
"I have done nothing wrong."
"Nothing." Selene scoffed. "May I remind you. It was you who lured them into the forest that night. I know it was your idea to use the fake wolf howls. You lead them straight to the alphas. And you also shot them. And me, but I'm not missing at the moment so let's forget me." Selene took a step forward.
"Oh my god!" Stiles said. He was trying to stop his girlfriend from going psycho and this argument wasn't helping. "No one died all right? Look, there may have been a little maiming, okay, but no death. That's what you call an important distinction." Selene knew he was trying to stop the argument but he just made it worse.
"My mother died." Allison said defiantly.
" Your family's little honor code killed your mother." Derek argued back. "Not me and not her." He pointed to Selene. Allison began shaking her head at Derek.
"That girl was looking for Scott. I'm here to help him, not you."
"You wanna help? Find something real." Derek began to raise his voice.
"Come on you guys!" Scott quickly inserted himself back into the conversation before it got out of hand... Or at least even more out of hand. "We need to work together. The past is the past. We can't change it. We can't change what happened to Allison's mom and we can't change what happened to Boyd and Erica. But what we can do is try to save Boyd and Erica before it's too late. Derek... Give her a chance. Okay, She's on our side now."
"Well then," Derek said straightening up slightly. Giving off a slight Alpha prowess. "Maybe you should tell her what her mother was actually trying to do that night." Derek walked out leaving the teenagers in the classroom. None of them said anything to each other as the bell went for class.
------------
Selene was sat in economics class not paying attention to anything coach said. Her mind was on something else other than entrepreneurship.
"The stock market is based on two principles. What are they?" Scott raised his hand. "Yes, McCall, you can go to the bathroom. Anybody else?" Coach began to look around the room.
"Uh, no, Coach," Scott said, "I know the answer." The Coach began to laugh so loudly that even Selene jumped slightly at the noise. The look on Scott's face made him stop.
"Oh, you're serious?"
"Yes. Risk and reward." Coach was gobsmacked and began to walk towards Scott's desk.
"Wow! Who are you? And what have you done to McCall?" He gently hit the desk with his fist. "Don't answer that. I like you better. I like you better." Coach gave a genuine smile and tapped Scott's desk with his finger. "Does anybody have a quarter? A quarter." Selene watched her boyfriend frantically search his pockets before pulling out a quarter which he accidentally threw across the room. The Coach sighed.
"Well done Stilinski." He walked over to the front of the classroom retrieving the quarter on his way. He placed a cup on the floor and took a few steps back. Bending over he flicked the quarter into the cup perfectly. Selene was stunned. He had either been practicing many times or he was something supernatural. Curious. Coach raised both hands in the air for celebration.
"That's how you do it!"
He walked towards Danny's desk. "Okay, Danny. Risk, reward."
"What's the reward?" Danny questioned.
"You don't have to take the pop quiz tomorrow."
"Coach, its not a pop quiz if you tell us about it."
"Danny, you know, I really expect more from you at this point." Coach glared at Danny before walking back to Scott's desk.
"McCall. Risk, reward. The risk: If you don't put that quarter in the mug, you have to take the pop... the... the quiz. And... and you have to write an essay. Risk, more work. Reward... No work at all. Or choose not to play."
"But isn't this just chance?" Scott asked.
"No. You know your abilities, your coordination, your focus, past experience... all factors affecting the outcome. So what's it gonna be, McCall? More work, no work, or choose not to play?" Scott was inspecting the quarter as if he was thinking about something. He turned it over and over a few times in his hand before placing it down on his book. No play. What was he thinking about?
"Who's next?" Coach called out. "Who wants the quarter?" Stiles hit his hands off the desk several times and began to stand up. Selene rolled her eyes. This was going to be good, Stiles had no coordination. "There ya go! There's a gamblin' man! Come on! Step up, step up. All right, Stilinski." Stiles lined himself up with the mug just as coach had done before and was about to throw the coin before coach said,
"Stilinski."
"I got it."
"Stilinski." Coach repeated.
Stiles looked up and saw his dad and a few other deputies stood in the doorway. They needed to talk to Stiles.
Scott and Selene looked at each other before nodding and using their wolf hearing to listen to the conversation.
"I only saw her for a moment. really. Scott and I went to the party. Something happened, and we left. We were there 30 seconds at most." Stiles explained to his father. "I just figured she would hook up with her other friends. Has no one really seen her since last night?"
"No." The Sheriff said. "We put out an A.P.B., but, Stiles, all her friends say you were the last person who saw her."
"Me?"
"We hope that it's just a series of bad decisions based on too much to drink. But if you remember anything else, you call me. All right?"
After class, Selene, Scott and Stiles were walking down the hallway. Both boys believed that the Alpha's had taken Stiles' friend.
"So, you think they kidnapped Heather to turn her?" Scott asked, making sure he had heard Stiles' theory correctly.
"Derek says it's easier to turn teenagers." Stiles explained.
"That is true. But they are a pack of alphas. Why would they need a beta?" Selene questioned. Stiles stopped in his tracks and looked at the two wolves in front of him.
"I don't know! I don't care. This girl, our moms were best friends before mine died all right. We used to take frickin' bubble baths together when we were three. I gotta find her."
"We will help you," Selene promised.
"We need Isaac to remember." Scott said.
"How? Peter and Derek couldn't do it." Stiles pointed to Selene for emphasis. "You know any other werewolves with a better trick?"
"Maybe not a werewolf. But someone who knows a lot about 'em."
---------------------
Selene, Scott, Stiles and Derek began to fill a metallic bath with iced water. Dumping several bags of ice into the tub making sure it was as cold as possible. Deaton was in the doorway explaining to Isaac what was about to happen. While he was explaining Selene thought of asking him what Peter meant when he said 'Mentis Alterum'. But she would ask later. It was more important to get Isaac's memories back right now.
"How slow does his heart rate need to be?" Scott asked as Isaac and Deaton walked into the room. "Very slow." Deaton shrugged.
"Okay, well, how slow is very slow?" Derek pushed.
"Nearly dead." Deaton admitted.
"It's safe, though, right?" Isaac said. He touched the water and winced at how cold it was. He looked up at Selene and she gave him an encouraging smile.
"Do you want me to answer honestly?" Deaton asked.
"No. No, not really." The tension in the room was interrupted by Stiles putting a on rather large inspection glove. He looked pleased with himself before he noticed everyone looking at him.
"What?" he said innocently. Every eye in the room rolled at his response. Isaac stood up ready.
"If it feels to risky. You don't have to do this." Derek said. Isaac took off his shirt indicating he was ready. He began to step into the bath when Deaton said.
"Selene. Take his hand."
"Why?" She asked. She walked over and took Isaac's hand.
"With your powers, you can help regulate his heart beat. The ice will slow his heart down and you can keep him calm, so he can remember as much as possible."
"How do you know so much about my powers?" She asked. Maybe Scott had told him?
"Your mother told me about them."
"My moth..." Selene was interrupted.
"Selene." Derek warned. They didn't have time to talk about this. Selene shook her head and began to use her powers. Scott and Derek held Isaac under the water. Isaac fought them. Deaton kept reminding them to hold him down. Selene tried her best to stay calm for him. If she began to panic, then Isaac would panic too. Eventually he stopped fighting. It had worked. Isaac floated to the top and let out a breath.
"Now, remember, only I talk to him." Deaton lifted his finger to his mouth. "Too many voices will confuse him and draw him out." Everyone nodded in understanding "Isaac? Can you hear me?"
"Yes. I can hear you." Isaac confirmed. Everyone looked at each other smiling.
"This is Dr. Deaton. I'd like to ask you a few questions. Is that all right?"
"Yes."
"I want to ask you about the night you found Erica and Boyd. I want you to remember it for me in as vivid detail as possible, like you're actually there again."
"I... I don't wanna do that. I don't... I don't wanna do that. I don't wanna do that." Isaac began panicking. Selene began to grip his hand tighter to see if that would work. He seemingly calmed for a moment.
"Isaac, it's all right. Just relax. They're just memories. You can't be hurt by a memory."
"I don't wanna do that." The lights began to flicker due to the storm. But it didn't do much for everyone's confidence. Even Deaton looked worried.
"It's all right."
"I don't wanna do that."
"Relax. Relax." Selene gripped so hard onto Isaac's hand that her knuckles were white. But her fingers were blue from the cold of the ice. Isaac calmed down.
"Good." Deaton said. "Now let's go back to that night. To the place you found Erica and Boyd. Can you tell me what you see? Is there some kind of building? A house?"
"It's not... it's not a house. It's stone. I think marble."
"That's perfect. Can you give me any other descriptors?"
"It's dusty, so empty."
"Like an abandoned building?"
Again the lights flickered but this time so did all of the machinery on the walls. Isaac was quiet.
"Isaac? Isaac?"
"Someone's here. Someone's here."
"Isaac, relax."
"No, no, no, they see me, they see me!" Isaac brought out his claws. They dug into Selene's hand. She bit her lip to stop herself from crying out. Blood slowly trickled from the puncture wounds and into the water slightly changing its colour. Stiles knelt on the floor beside her and rubbed her arms reassuringly.
"Just memories." Deaton soothed. "You won't be hurt by your memories. Just relax. Relax. Good. Now tell us what you see. Tell us everything."
"I hear him." Isaac opened his eyes, but he wasn't awake "He's talking about the full moon, about being out of control when the moon rises."
"Is he talking to Erica?"
"I think so, I can't... I can't see her, I ca... I can't... I can't see either of them."
"Can you hear anything else?"
"They're worried. They're worried what they'll do during the moon. They're...Worried that they're gonna hurt each other."
"If they're locked in together on the full moon, they're gonna tear each other apart." Everyone looked worried.
"Isaac," Deaton said with more urgency. "We need to find them right now. Can you see them?"
"No."
"Do you know what kind of room it is? Is there any kind of a marker? A number on a door? A sign?" Isaac sat up with a gasp but he still was in his trance. Selene retracted her hand in defense. Stiles grabbed a towel and wrapped her hand up in hopes of getting heat back into it quickly. Selene thanked him but her eyes didn't leave Isaac.
"They're here. They... They..."
"It's all right."
"No,"
"Just tell us..."
"They see me. They found me. They're here!" Isaac was screaming. Selene went to quickly grab Isaac again but Deaton blocked her. Deaton went to say something else but Derek cut him off.
"This isn't working." Derek sighed. "Isaac, where are you?" He demanded.
"I can't see them. It's too dark!" Isaac screamed getting more and more distressed.
"Just tell me where you are."
"You are confusing him." Deaton tried to stop Derek. Selene was looking around frantically. The lights were mostly off completely. Her internal battle was one of protecting her pack member and protecting Stiles if anything happened.
"I can't see!" Isaac repeated.
"Isaac, where are you?" Derek was losing his patience. "Just tell me where you are."
"His heart rate... he could go into shock." Deaton shouted.
"Derek, let him go!" Scott demanded.
"Derek please!" Selene begged.
"Isaac, where are you? What did you see?" Derek wouldn't give up. His Alpha instinct to save his other pack members was too strong.
"A vault! It's a bank vault!" Isaac barked. Water entering his lungs. "There's a dead body... It's Erica." Everyone stepped back in shock. In that moment Isaac woke up from his trance.
He jumped out of the bath. "I saw it!" He exclaimed, wrapping a towel around himself. "I saw the name. It's, uh... B-beacon hills first national bank. It's, um... it's an abandoned bank, and they're keeping them locked inside, inside the vault." He noticed everyone looking at him in horror. "What?"
"You don't remember what you said right before you came out of it, do you?" Stiles asked.
"No."
"You said when they captured you that they dragged you into a room and that there was a body in it." Stiles explained. Selene leaned into stiles and he wrapped his arm around her waist.
"What body?" Isaac asked.
"Erica. You said it was Erica."
"She's not dead." Derek denied. "I would know. Selene would have felt it. She has an emotional connection to us all. She would have felt it if one of them died."
"Derek." Selene sighed. "I haven't felt anything from either of them for a while! We said it before. Something must be blocking my powers from connecting to them." Stiles nodded and added,
"He said, 'there's a dead body. It's Erica.' Doesn't exactly leave us much room for interpretation."
"Then who was in the vault with Boyd?" Derek challenged.
"Someone else, obviously."
"Maybe it was the girl on the motorcycle." Scott suggested and turned to Isaac, "the one who saved you?"
"No, she wasn't like us. And whoever was in the vault with Boyd, was."
"What if that's how Erica died?" Stiles said "They, like, pit them against each other during the full moons and see which one survives. It's like werewolf thunder dome."
"Then we get them out tonight." Derek said.
"Be smart about this, Derek. You can't just go storming in." Deaton warned.
"If Isaac got in, then so can we."
"But he didn't get through a vault door, did he?"
"We need a plan." Scott said.
"How are we gonna come up with a plan to break into a bank vault in less than 24 hours?" Derek asked.
"Uh, I think someone already did." Stiles commented looking at his phone "'Beacon hills first national closes its doors three months after vault robbery.'" Doesn't say here how it was robbed, but it probably won't take long to find out."
"How long?"
"It's the Internet, Derek. Okay? Minutes."
-----------------------
Selene sighed and looked at her phone. It was well past midnight and Stiles had not texted her details of the bank robbery. So much for minutes. Her eyes were heavy. She had used too much of her powers it seems.
"Selene. Go to bed." Derek said, he was worried.
"But Erica and Boyd." She replied. She checked her phone again. Nothing.
"If Stiles was going to text tonight he would have done already. Get some sleep."
"How is Isaac?" she asked changing the subject.
"He's asleep. Go to bed. Now."
"Fine."
The following day came and time had passed. In fact it was the evening when Selene looked at her phone.
"Its 5pm. Scott and Stiles should be here any moment." She informed Derek. He nodded in acknowledgement. On cue, the door opened, and the two boys walked in and in their hands, were plans to the bank. Derek rolled them out onto the main table next to the windows.
"Okay. You see this?" Stiles explained marking an area of the map with a red pen. "This is how they got in. It's a rooftop air conditioning vent. Leads down inside into the wall of the vault, which is here." He marked another place with his pen. "One of the robbers was lowered into this shaft Now, that space is so small, it took him about 12 hours to drill into that wall, which is stone, by the way... Then throughout the rest of the night, they siphoned the cash up to the guys back on the roof through that one little shaft in the wall. Boom."
"Can we fit in there?" Scott asked skeptically.
"Yes, we can," Stiles answered, "but very, very barely. And they also patched the wall, obviously, so we're gonna need a drill of some kind. I'm thinking maybe a diamond bit..." Derek stopped him.
"Look, forget the drill."
"Sorry?"
"If I go in first, how much space do I have?"
"What do you... what do you think you're gonna do, Derek? You gonna punch through the wall?" Stiles challenged. Derek crossed his arms. Selene sighed, boys.
"Yes, Stiles, I'm gonna punch through the wall."
"Okay, okay, big guy. Let's see it. Let's see that fist. Big, old fist. Make it, come on. Get it out there. Don't be scared." Derek raised his fist with an uninterested face. Stiles raised his hand in front of it "Big, bad wolf. Yeah, look at that. Okay, see this? That's maybe 3 inches of room to gather enough force to punch through solid co..." Derek punched stiles in the hand. There was a crack sound and Stiles flew into the table.
"Derek!" Selene shouted rushing towards Stiles. She inspected his hand. It wasn't broken, but it did look damaged.
"He could do it." Stiles squeaked nursing his hand. Selene took his hand and used her werewolf powers to take his pain away. The veins on her hands going black. Stiles looked at her in wonder.
"I'll get through the wall." Derek said leaning on the table looking at the plans again. "Who's following me down?"
"I will." Selene said.
"No. I won't risk another one of my pack. If this goes wrong, I need someone to look after Isaac. Someone who isn't him." He pointed with his head towards Peter who stood up from his seat on the stairs.
"Don't look at me." Peter said defiantly. "I'm not up to fighting speed yet, and honestly, with Isaac and Selene out of commission, you're not looking at very good odds for yourself."
"So I'm supposed to just let them die?"
"One of them is already dead."
"We don't know that."
"Do I have to remind you what we're up against here? A pack of alphas. All of them, killers. And if that's not enough to scare your testicles back into your stomach, try to remember that two of them combine bodies to form one giant Alpha. I'm sure Erica and Boyd were sweet kids. They're gonna be missed." Selene felt herself growl deeply at his words.
"Can we kill him again please?" Stiles asked. Peter glared at Stiles causing Selene to growl louder.
"Derek?" Peter said raising his eyebrows. "Seriously. Not worth the risk."
"What about you?" Derek asked.
"Yeah if you want me to come." Stiles shrugged.
"Not you!"
"I don't know about Erica..." Scott said. "But if Boyd's still alive, we have to do something. We have to try..." His eyes squinted in thought.
"But?"
"Who's the other girl? The one locked in there with Boyd?"
-----------------
It had been an hour since Scott and Derek had left for the bank. There was no word. Stiles was watching the clouds pass the moon. Selene was sat on the floor with her eyes shut. Peter was on the couch doing the same. Both of them were regulating their own heart beats to stay in control.
"I can't take waiting around like this, you know? It's nerve-racking. My nerves are racked. They're severely racked. Racked." Stiles said. Selene heard Peter's voice from the other side reply.
"I could beat you unconscious and wake you when it's over."
"You're not helping Peter." Selene warned. She heard Stiles' heartbeat speed up which wasn't great for her control.
"You think Erica's really dead?" Stiles asked.
"You think I really care?"
"Peter stop." Selene warned again.
"I just... I don't understand the bank, though, okay? Wha... like, why wouldn't they chain them up in some underground lair or something? They're an Alpha pack, right? So shouldn't they have a lair?"
"They're werewolves, not bond villains. God Sel, I know he is your Mentis Alterum but how do you put up with him?"
"What? Mentis Alterum" Stiles asked, he paused. "Wait a sec. Wait a sec..." A thought came to him, "Maybe they're living there. You know? Like, maybe the bank vault reminds them of their little wolf dens." This caused both Selene and Peter to open their eyes.
"Wolf dens?" Peter said with disbelief. He looked more at Selene then Stiles as he asked. She shrugged.
"Yeah, wolf dens. Where do you live?"
"In an underground network of caves hidden deep in the woods." Peter teased.
"Whoa, really?"
"No, you idiot. I have an apartment downtown."
"Okay, fine, but still, that just proves that there's something up with the bank. And why wait around for the full moon, huh? Why not just kill them whenever they want to?" Selene stood up. Stiles had a point. Why now? She walked over to the plans and began to scan them.
"Maybe they think it's poetic."
"They've already had three full moons to be poetic."
"And here you've only had one full hour to be so annoying..." Peter stopped. He looked at Selene who looked at him.
"No, go ahead, finish what you were saying. I'm an... I'm annoying. What were you gonna say there?" Stiles encouraged.
"What are the walls made of?" Peter asked. Selene rushed to the papers. Both of the wolves had the same thought.
"I'm looking!" Selene shouted.
"Wood and brick or..." Stiles suggested.
"No, the vault, the vault, the walls," Peter stood up and began looking at the plans with Selene. "What are they made out of? Where would it say that?" Both were frantically looking at the pieces of paper. "Doesn't say anything. Where... where would it say the materials, the type of stone?"
"Oh.. Oh, hang on." Stiles quickly opened his bag and pulled out more pieces of paper. "Yeah, here, hang on. Here. It's gotta be in there." He threw the very large stack of paper onto the desk with a thud. After skim reading most of the papers Stiles pointed.
"There! That's it!"
"Hecatolite." Peter breathed out. Selene gasped.
"No! You can't be serious." Grabbed the paper and brought it closer to her face. He was right. Hecatolite.
"Is that awful? That sounds awful." Stiles asked confused.
"Get 'em on the phone." Peter shouted. "Call them. Now!"
"Okay, why?
"'Cause Boyd and that girl aren't gonna kill each other. They're gonna kill Derek and Scott."
"Why?"
"The stone. It scatters the moonlight! They haven't turned in months." Peter explained.
"That's why I haven't been able to feel them. The stone is blocking my powers." Selene pointed out.
With that, suddenly Selene fell to the floor screaming. She grabbed hold of her head in hopes it would stop but it didn't.
"Stiles phone now!" Peter ordered as he rushed over to Selene. He tried to make her let go of her head, but she didn't. She held on for dear life.
"Little Sel, come on... Stiles hurry up!"
"Scott! Scott!" Stiles shouted down the phone while watching Selene. "No, listen to me, okay? Look, you gotta get outta there. Look, the walls of the vault are made with a mineral called Hecatolite. It scatters the moonlight.... Look, it keeps the moonlight out, okay? They haven't felt the full moon in months." Peter stood up and walked over to the phone.
"Think of it like the gladiators in the Roman colosseum. They used to starve the lions for three days, making them more vicious, more out of control. Deucalion has kept them from shifting for three full moons, diminishing their tolerance to it. When you cracked open the seal Selene got a blast of their emotions. Hear that Scott. That screaming? That's whats going on inside their heads. They're gonna be stronger, more savage, more bloodthirsty, Scott, they're the lions. They're the starved lions, and you and Derek just stepped into the colosseum." Growling noises came through the phone.
"Scott! Scott!" Stiles shouted but there was no answer.
"We can't do anything to save them now." Peter said grabbing the phone and hanging up. "Our problem now is her." Selene had stopped screaming. She was stood up and was staring at Peter and Stiles. She was staring with irises as white as the moon.
