Chapter 21: XL
"Y-you," Michael sputtered, "you remember me!?"
"Yep," Lucifer sighed, "I didn't have amnesia in the first place. It was all a prank, Gabe told me to do it."
"Hey!" Rang from outside the room.
"Sorry little brother!" Lucifer yelled back. "But, Michael... I love you too."
Michael couldn't keep the hope off of his face, "Really?"
"A coma can't exactly erase feelings. And to think you want to be a doctor," Lucifer mused.
Michael ignored the possible insult and beamed, moving to kiss Lucifer, but the other boy turned his head so the peck landed on his cheek. "However," Lucifer began, "I'm not sure if I'm entirely ready to forgive you."
Michael's smile dropped a tiny bit, "Ok... that's ok. I'm willing to earn your forgiveness. No matter how cheesy this is about to sound, it's true, but I'm in love with you and I will do absolutely anything to make you happy."
"I like that, sounds good," Lucifer smiled at Michael, and finally it felt like everything was going to be ok.
~~~~~~
After Michael and Lucifer partially made up, they didn't go back to being boyfriends, but instead returned to being friends. They continued to be friends until the end of the school year when it was time for them to graduate. They would hang out at each other's houses after school, and Michael was back to pining. It wasn't as though he minded it, truly, it was more that he wanted more, but if Lucifer didn't, that was fine.
Cas and Dean continued being sickeningly sweet, making Michael's heart ache, wanting to be more like them with Lucifer. Cas and Dean were currently cuddling on a couch in the Novak house, Cas wearing one of Dean's flannels and Dean wearing one of Cas's oversized sweaters. The two were sat together in companionable silence, hardly caring about anything or anyone else in the room. Michael stared at them for a second before turning back to Lucifer, as the two seniors were sitting on the couch opposite to Cas and Dean, talking about their graduation.
Every few seconds Michael would turn and stare at Lucifer, and each time Lucifer would catch him, though Michael didn't know that. Michael would be valedictorian this year, having such good grades and being on the baseball team as well. Michael had no idea what he was going to do for his speech, but for some reason he felt that with Lucifer in the audience, anything he said would be perfect.
Michael was currently staring at Lucifer, probably for a bit longer than he expected because Lucifer was fully facing him, snapping his fingers in front of Michael's face. "Sorry," Michael replied, snapping out of re-analyzing every one of Lucifer's features.
Lucifer chuckled and then asked Michael, "So, any ideas for your speech thing?"
However Michael was back to imagining how he could steal Lucifer's leather jacket, just like he used to, as well as thinking about how Lucifer looked in his flannels. "Mm?" Michael questioned, looking into Lucifer's eyes, taken aback by the bright blue.
Lucifer also got lost in Michael's eyes momentarily, loving the beautiful hazel. "Umm, uh..." Lucifer couldn't find the words he had said. "Oh! Any ideas for your speech?"
"Huh? Michael looked at Lucifer, confused.
"You're valedictorian. You have a speech. Though it doesn't seem like you have any ideas for it."
"Oh, yeah," Michael remembered, embarrassed. Rubbing the back of his neck he replied, "I was just planning on winging it."
"Wait, seriously? Why?" Lucifer questioned, sitting up straight, suddenly much more attentive.
"Well, it's easy as long as I don't cuss. I should do fine."
"You're not planning anything? Really?"
"Nah." I can do anything as long as Luce has faith in me, Michael thought.
"Ok, if you say so," Lucifer said, leaning back into the couch, even closer to Michael. "You'll probably still do amazing."
I can definitely do it now. Michael smiled at Lucifer, feeling instantly stronger.
"I mean, hey, Percy Jackson never exactly had the intent to save the world and become a hero, but he did just fine," Lucifer commented, turning on the TV and scrolling through Netflix.
Michael suddenly turned towards Lucifer, "Wait, I thought you hadn't read Percy Jackson?"
Lucifer flushed, "Oh. Well, I have. And the Heroes of Olympus series. And Magnus Chase. And Trials of Apollo."
"Yeah," Cas chipped in, "Lucifer went and bought all the books around early February and finished them by March. You didn't see him reading them?"
"Maybe I don't pay attention too well," Michael shrugged, sending a forced smile Lucifer's way. Lucifer guiltily looked down. Michael paid attention almost too well. The reason Michael never noticed Lucifer reading the books was because Luce only read them at home. And Luce didn't want Michael to think that he influenced his decision.
"Why didn't you ask to borrow my books? I own like, all of them," Michael gritted his teeth, pathetically chuckling at the end of his sentence.
I was too torn up to want anything from you. To share anything with you. I wanted something to be my own. "Sorry, must've forgot that you liked them." Of course Lucifer didn't forget, he remembered all of Michael's likes and interests.
"Must have," Michael bitterly mused. Not bitter at Lucifer, though, but bitter at himself. He was the one who caused Lucifer to feel like he couldn't share this. Well, to make him not want to share this. He was bitter, but also sad. Though slowly becoming even more bitter.
"Actually, Luce, I changed my mind," Michael stated after staring blankly at the wall for a lengthy moment.
Lucifer turned his head away from the TV. "About what?"
"I'm gonna plan my speech. Wanna help?" Michael asked, taking out a piece of paper and a mechanical pencil.
"Oh. Sure," Lucifer cracked a small smile paired with a surprised and suspicious glance.
"Perfect," Michael smirked. Perfect, like this speech would be. Perfect, like the time he spent with Lucifer is. Perfect, like his speech with Lucifer's help wouldn't be.
Ok so there might be a small plot twist. Bet you were just expecting amnesia. Hah.
