Finding out that you where a mutant was a shock to say the least. But to find out that there were other mutants was huge. You were super excited to go to 'Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters'. Luckily your parents were really understanding people and accepted you for who you were. They have been that way since you first found out you were a mutant.

When you were about twelve of thirteen you were playing with your toys out in the garden. It was a bright summers day and your family decided to have a barbecue. Your parents were lounging on a sofa that was outside while you and your younger siblings were mucking around.

Your little brother had dropped one of his action man into the barbecue, before he could tell your parents, you had given him your action man and reached into the burning coals to retrieve it.

Your Parents had seen what was going on and ran over but it was too late. You had already reached into the barbecue and brought out the burnt action man. You however, seemed completely unharmed. You stood in front of your parents holding a melted and smouldering action man, perplexed as to why your parents were so worried, you hadn't felt a thing. Your parents had checked all over your body for any signs of burn marks, but you had none. It was then that they realised you where a mutant. And this was only the start of your powers.

After that incident you had become increasingly interested in fire and burning hot objects. Often holding them or playing with them. About a year later you had started to understand your mutation, you could manipulate fire, as well as this you could summon it and not be harmed by any sort of flames, even if they were white hot.

Being at the mansion meant that you didn't have to hide who you were; which you had always found difficult due to the fact that whenever you got angry things tended to mysteriously catch fire. You had only been at the mansion for a couple of weeks but you already had some great friends. There was Jean, Jubilee and Ororo, were your best girl friends, as well as them you had Peter, Scott, Warren and Kurt, your best guy friends, Kurt however, was a different story.

Kurt Wagner. Kurt had been one of the first people to interact with you when you first joined. You were sat next to each other in your first class and he offered to show you around the school. To say that you had a small crush on him was an understatement. You loved to hear him talk in German, in fact you were getting him to teach you some; you also adored the marks across his skin, you thought they looked beautiful.

Earlier that day you had gotten a telephone call from one of your old friends, saying that they were going to come and pick you up to hang out. You had told them that you were a mutant, they did accept you but were still a little wary of you.

It was the last class of the day and you went to Kurt's dorm so that you could walk to your class together. You were in the same classes for chemistry, English and History.

"Hallo, Kurt. Bist du bereit für den unterricht?" You asked in German, wanting to show that you had in fact been practising.

Kurt, who was sitting at his desk, looked around, a grin blossoming on his face.

"Ja, ich bin. Ich muss meine bücher schnappen." Kurt replied, turning around, picking up his books then walking out into the corridor with you.

"Your German is getting very good." Kurt said, looking over at you and smiling widely.

The rest of the way to class you and Kurt talked in German, Kurt would correct you whenever you mispronounced something, you didn't see the blush that was adorning his cheeks.

After class you and Kurt walked towards the garden to join your other friends.

Walking towards your friends an idea popped into your head.

"Kurt, I'm going to meet up with some of my friends from my old school to go to a party, do you want to come too?" You asked, you couldn't deny that asking this question was a little nerve racking.

"Ja, zat vould be nice. But von't your friendz be scared of me?" He asked, looking over at you before looking away.

"I doubt that, they accepted me, I'm sure they'll like you." You grinned as Kurt nodded and sent you a warm smile.

As you arrived at the group you checked your watch, you had an hour before your other friends arrived. So you and Kurt sat side by side on the grass as the sun beat down and the air was fulled with laughter coming from your group.

§

An hour passed in what seemed like the blink of an eye. Standing up you stretched out your legs.

"And where do you think you're going?" Peter asked, looking up at you, his hands raised over his head, trying to prevent Jubilee and Scott from putting more grass on his head.

"My old friends are coming to see me for a bit, I'll be back in a couple of hours." You smiled, looking down at them.

"Can I valk you to ze door?" Kurt asked, his tail swishing behind him and he went to stand up.

"Corse you can." You beamed, waved goodbye to your friends and walked up to the school, Kurt beside you.

That was one of the many reasons why you liked Kurt so much, he was such a gentleman. Always offered to walk you to places, even if it was out of his way; he was always very kind and gentle to you, he always refused to train with you, but he didn't tell you why. It wasn't until Jean told you that it was because he was afraid to hurt you. Things like these always put smiles on your face and a tingling sensation would erupted in your stomach.

As you walked to the door, Kurt was telling you a really funny story about how a chicken had chased him around a field. As you burst out laughing you both walked to the drive way where a car was already parked. You didn't notice that the entire time Kurt couldn't wipe the smile off his face as he stared at you.

Lindsey and James got out of the car and walked over to you, grinning widely and hugging you. They looked scathingly at Kurt, looking him up and down with disgusted looks. (Sorry if these are your names, just change them if they are.)

"(y/n)! How are you?" Lindsey asked, trying to gently pull you away from Kurt. James raised his eye brow at him, making Kurt look down slightly.

"Yeah, I'm okay." You answered, raising your own eyebrow at them.

"I'm well excited for this party we're going to, it's supposed to be banging." James chimed, grinning a toothy grin at you.

"Yeah, loads of people from our old school are going to be there." Lindsey added, jumping up and down slightly, showing that she was very excited. Lindsey had always wanted to have all the 'popular' people like her, but you where never really bothered, you had your friends and that was all you needed.

"Oh nice, sounds great." You beamed, then you added, "Hey, is it okay if my friend Kurt comes too?"

James and Lindsey looked at each other, having a silent conversation between them which neither you nor Kurt could understand.

"Well..." James started, but drifted off as he glanced at Kurt.

"The thing is, (y/n), we tolerate you because you don't look like a freak. But your weird looking friend over there will attracted unwanted attention. I mean, for christ's sake, he's blue and has a tail. That's freaky." Lindsey stated as if it was the most obvious and factual thing in the world.

Anger like you have never felt in your life began to fill you up. It was as if someone had poured petrol onto an already burning fire.

"Fuck off." You spat, your eyes had narrowed, and glared at your now ex-friends.

"What?" Lindsey asked, a flicker of fear could be seen in her green eyes. James had grabbed the sleeve of Lindsey's jacket.

"I said-" you started, raising your hand, watching as it exploded in to flames, "Fuck off. Kurt is not a freak, and nether am I. Now, I suggest you do as I say and fuck off, before I set you on fire." You finished, glaring at them as they rushed back to their car.

"Come on, let's get out of this freak show." James called as they got into their car and drove away. As your rage left your body, the flames that engulfed your hand extinguished. Silent tears streaked down your face.

"(y/n)-" Kurt started but you had sprinted off as fast as you could to your dorm. You knew no one would be up there because you shared with Jean and Ororo, they were still outside in the garden.

You sat on the edge of your bed and put your head in your hands. Tears still leaking from your eyes but you make no sound. A quiet 'bamf' signaled that Kurt had teleported into your room.

You didn't ask him to leave, you didn't even look up, embarrassed to show that you were crying. Kurt walked over and sat down next to you. You raised your head from your hands and rested your chin on your now knotted fingers.

"Weine nicht, meine blume." Kurt spoke softy. You could feel his gaze on you, but when you didn't say anything he continued.

"You are too good for zem, you should not surround yourself viv people who do not love you for vo you are. You should surround yourself viv people vo can see zat you are a beautiful and amazing person." Kurt paused then said, "wie ich."

As he said this Kurt put a hand on your shoulder. You grabbed his hand in your own, and brought his hand to your lips and kissed his knuckles.

"I know, I am so lucky to have you, Kurt." You sighed, trying wipe away the tears that still fell from your eyes as you played with Kurt's fingers. "Du bist zu gut für mich."

As you said this Kurt pulled you into a bone crushing hug, which you gladly returned. After a couple of seconds Kurt pulled away, cupped your cheek and wiped away your tears with his thumb.

"Nein, (y/n). You have it vong. You are too good for me. Ze vay you stood up to zose awful people vas amazing, you have to be a very strong person to stand up to your friends. Vich you did, for me. If anything, you are too good for me." Kurt whispered, his yellow eyes boring into your own, a sweet smile plastered onto his lips.

"Thank you, Kurt." You smiled, kissing his check, causing Kurt to smile and blush slightly.

"Alles für dich, liebste." He answered, making your heart do a little tap dance in your chest. Kurt stood up, and offered you his hand, which you took happily.

"Let's go outside, ja?" He asked, squeezing you hand and kissing your check lightly.

You nodded and the pair of you walked out into the sun light, hand in hand, towards your true friends. The only friends you needed. The people who accepted you for who you are and would never leave your side. Your family.
