Chapter Six

"How many?" I ask him.

He shrugs. "30-ish, probably more though."

"Why?"

"Oh no, don't direct the focus towards me, how many for you?" He says, wagging his finger.

"A few dozen, probably more though," I say, mimicking his response.

"What for?"

"They were trying to kill my family, your turn," I say, leaning back in my chair.

"They were pissing me off and trespassing repeatedly on my ter—uh property," he stumbles and I give him a funny look.

"I think my alcohol tolerance might be higher than yours. Can we go back yet? I kinda just want to go to bed now," I mutter.

"Just wait here for a minute, I'll be right back," Daniel tells me before going over to the bar again. He returns with two small boxes.

"What's that?"

"Supernatural drug. You were complaining about the liquor so I thought you might want something that'll actually have an effect," he explains, pushing the box across the table.

I open it to reveal a small pill. I glance back up at Daniel with a raised eyebrow. "You're not gonna take advantage of me or something are you?"

"Have I done something to give you that impression?"

"No," I murmur. You're one of the most decent angels I've ever met but that isn't saying much, I guess. I sigh. "Well even if you do it's not like I haven't been through worse."

I pop the pill into my mouth before he can ask about it and swallow it with the liquor. I close my eyes and breathe deeply, waiting for it to take effect.

Not even minutes later, I feel a warmth spreading inside my chest and my head is filled with a sudden lightness. I smile in content and open my eyes to see Daniel grinning at me. I hear a song come on and realize I actually know the tune. "We should dance," I say and grab Daniel's hand, dragging him onto the dance floor. I put my hands above my head and sway my body to the beat. I feel hands on my hips and I am pulled flush against a hard chest.

I look up into his stormy blue eyes, instantly feeling heat spread all over my body. A tingling sensation sparks everywhere his skin is touching mine and my body starts grinding against his.

He chuckles lowly and puts his lips next to my ear. I feel his hot breath fan against my skin, making me shiver in pleasure at his proximity. "Be careful, you might start something you'll regret," he warns, but it only heightens my desire.

I grin and lean forward until my lips are only millimeters from his. "Somehow I doubt I would regret anything when it comes to you."

I jerk awake with a gasp and sit upright. The world spins and I fumble for something to hold onto but all I grab is air. My eyes fly open wide as my body tilts sideways and I fall, hitting the floor hard enough to knock the breath out of me.

My mouth opens and closes but no air comes in, making me start to panic. I quickly close my eyes and hold my breath until I feel my chest relax. I suck in a gasping breath then immediately start coughing. My shoulder and elbow are tingling with pain that forces black spots into my vision and turns my stomach.

I recognize the ceiling of my bedroom, along with the new bunk bed inside. Two pairs of hurried footsteps approach me and I spot Diana and Daniel.

Diana kneels beside me, her eyes full of worry. "Oh my god, are you alright?" she asks, searching my body for any injuries.

"I think I'm okay," I try to say but my voice is hoarse and it comes out as an incoherent rasp.

Daniel brings me a glass of water while Diana helps me up. I let out a pained groan, clutching at my head. The water helps my throat a bit, but it does absolutely nothing to stop the pounding in my skull. "What the hell happened?" I moan, burying my face in my hands.

"We went to a club last night and you took a lot of drugs," Daniel mutters and my face twists into a grimace.

"God will nothing kill me? And why are you perfectly fine? You took the drugs too," I mutter, rubbing my temples.

"I didn't actually take the pill," he says.

I frown with furrowed brows for a few moments before shaking my head. "Yeah I really don't remember what happened last night. What time is it?"

"3:15, in the afternoon," Diana tells me making my eyes fly wide.

"What! Are you serious! What time did we get back?"

"About 2 or 3 this morning. You kind of passed out so I brought you back here," Daniel explains and I feel the sudden urge to look down.

I am wearing my sweatpants and hoodie again, though I clearly remember changing into a dress. I look at the two with my eyes narrowed suspiciously. "Who changed me?" I ask with a raised eyebrow.

"Uh—I did," Diana says with a small glance at Daniel who just shrugs.

"Uh huh, okay well I am going to take a shower and try not to puke my guts out," I say and slowly stand up with a groan. Everything suddenly starts to sway and I feel my stomach turn.

"Shit," I mutter and I am vaguely aware of being helped into the bathroom. I can't make it to the toilet and empty the contents of my stomach into the sink, groaning as the pounding in my skull grows worse still.

"You okay?" Someone asks and I nod.

"I don't think there's a word to describe how I feel right now," I grit out and use the wall to stand up. My legs are weak and visibly shake when I put weight on them.

I pull off my sweatshirt and my nose wrinkles in disgust as I catch sight of myself in the mirror. My hair is a sticky mess and I smell like a bar. My contacts must have fallen out, but my eyes are still bright red as if I'd slept in them.

I turn on a hot shower and peel off the rest of my garments before climbing in. I sigh as the water hits my skin, leaning against the cold tile of the wall.

I scrub my body until it turns pink and I smell strongly of my mint body wash. I wash my hair too, sighing when I finally feel clean.

I dry myself off and go through my morning routine once again.

"Hey what do you guys do on Saturdays?" Diana's voice calls down the hall.

"Usually everyone goes to the lake and parties. I almost always sneak out into town or hang out in the forest—or just hang in here and read," I say, walking into the room.

Diana is peeking through the blinds of my window while Daniel lounges on the couch.

"You two should go to the lake, you'll fit in better if you do," I advise but they both shake their heads.

"I'm not a big fan of large crowds," Daniel says with a small shrug.

"Plus the other angels here are assholes," Diana comments.

"Okay so do you guys want to go to the forest or sneak out?" I ask.

"Why don't we go to town, get some stuff and then go to the forest?" Diana suggests.

"Sure, why not."

"What? You guys had a sauna?" I ask in disbelief.

"Yeah, we had a sauna, hot tub, massages, and just about anything else that qualifies as 'relaxing'," Diana tells me.

"Why?"

"It was a rehab center, they were trying to get us to be normal. Most of the time we were too aggressive, too angry, and therefore too dangerous, so they needed to calm us down before they could rehabilitate us," Daniel explains.

"Lucky bastards," I mutter, putting arms behind my head.

"I'm honestly surprised they didn't put you in the rehabilitation center," Diana says.

I sigh heavily. "They just got rid of my wings so they could be certain that I wasn't a threat anymore."

"That sucks, well now you have us so things can't be too bad."

I smile a little. "Yeah, things are definitely starting to look up."
