READ AT OWN RISK!
Her wedding day. The day she had always dreamt of.
Yet it wasn't her dream. It was the wrong dragon. The wrong life.
She could only pray Kinkajous #foolproof plan was #foolproof.
Otherwise her days would be spent with a psychotic maniac.
"You ready?" Ostrich looked at her.
"As I'll ever be."
Anemone fiddled with the edge of her crown. She was waiting in the hallway for Pike to walk round the corner.
"Just breathe, Anemone." She told herself.
"Hey." Anemone jumped 4 feet in the air and spun around to see her sister.
"Auklet!" Auklet smiled sadly.
"Did I scare you?" Anemone grinned at the familiar lines.
"Can't prove it." Auklet's grin faded as quickly as it had come.
"Look Anemone...I just wanted to let you know that I love you. You're the best sister I could have had." Anemone's smile grew bigger.
"Thank you, Aukie. I love you too." Anemone embraced her younger sister and nuzzled into her sun-soaked scales. A breath snaked past her ear.
"I'm sorry...if I don't do this, he'll kill Cliff." Anemones eyes widened as the thud of metal echoed around her head, and she collapsed to the floor.
WHERE WAS ANEMONE?
Kinkajou surveyed the room anxiously. Tamarin was due any minute. Pike was already here. The plan was meant to be foolproof, so WHO WAS THE FOOL? Her, Tamarin, or the smoke breather who had done this?
Turtle, sitting next to her, looked triumphant.
"Why are you so happy?" She hissed. "Anemone is missing. My plan is a bust." He looked at her quizzically.
"Your plan? What about my plan? You know, when Anemone gets captured and we rescue her and marry them?"
"What about MY plan? You know, full of glitter bombs and NOT getting captured?!" They looked at each other.
"Oh, no." They said in unison.
Oh crap. Kinkajou thought.
Tamarin tiptoed down the isle, a flower crown adorning her head and her stomach swirling with nervousness. She looked through the crowd, at the endless sea of Seawings and Rainwings, and tried to find Anemone.
She wasn't there.
Bile rose in Tamarins throat and she spun around, but Pike, who was near, grabbed her veil and pulled her closer.
"Initiate the ceremony." Tamarin squirmed, but Pike held fast.
"Dear beloved, we gather here today to witness holy matrimony between these two dragons..." Kingfish droned on. Pike stared at Tamarin, his eyes narrowed with pride.
"What have you done?" Tamarin said, about to deposit her breakfast over the front row.
"What was necessary." Auklet hurried into the venue, her face streaked with tear tracks. She sank into her seat and Kingfish continued.
"Does anyone object to this union?" Kinkajou stood up.
"I object!" Turtle followed.
"I object!" A chorus of objections followed.
"Oh." Kingfish said. "That line doesn't mean anything. It's symbolic. Now, let's continue with the ceremony. Do you, Pi"-
"EXCUSE ME, WHAT?!" Kinkajou roared. "LISTEN HERE, SALMON-LICKER! YOU DO NOT GET TO TELL ME THAT, AFTER ALL THE WORK I PUT INTO THIS PLAN. GO GET A LIFE!" Kinkajou chucked a glitter bomb and Tamarin ducked, the glitter bursting in Pike's face.
"Run, Tamarin!" Turtle gestured toward the door. Tamarin ripped off her veil and took off running, throwing the room into turmoil. She ran faster, crashing through the doors and spraying shards of pearl everywhere.
"I'm coming, Anemone!" She yelled, and ran to Pike's chambers.
In a prison deep underwater, Anemone waited in silence.
Her heart ached.
How could Auklet do that to her? Betray her?
A thud cut through her pain, and a roar loud enough to crack walls sounded.
"GO GET A LIFE!" The dragon finished with a flourish. Anemone waited for someone to come rescue her.
"HELP!" She screamed, but the silence still weighed heavy. No one was coming, that was clear.
"Help!" Anemone yelled again, softer, weaker this time.
She really was alone.
"Help?"
"ANEMONE?" Tamarin screamed, filling her lungs with air. "ANEMONE?"
She was in Pike's rooms, bland, grey walls with pale furniture. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
"UH!" She screeched, stamping her talon. A click sounded.
The tile beneath her sank down, revealing a tunnel.
A staircase descended deep into the earth.
Tamarin stared, agape, as the click, click, click sound of metal upon metal revealed more stairs, going further and further into the unknown. Tamarin didn't hesitate for a second as soon as the clicking stopped, rushing down into the dark. The sound of water grew louder and then fainter, the tunnel sending her into the ocean.
"Anemone?" She said, her voice scratched and dry from screaming.
An ever fainter voice replied, "here."
Anemone looked up with glee as Tamarin rushed into the room in a swirl of flowers.
"Anemone!" Anemone stood up, bars keeping her distanced from Tamarin.
"The key's over there!" Anemone pointed gleefully. Tamarin dug her talon into a small hole in the wall and pulled out a moss covered key. She jammed it into the lock and Anemone tumbled out, embracing the Rainwing fervently.
"Are you okay?" Tamarin gasped, clutching Anemones hand.
"I'm fine, but we have to get out of here. Pike will come looking for you any minute." As if on cue, Pike burst into the dungeon, Kinkajou and Turtle on his heels. Anemone turned to Tamarin.
"Run."
Anemone and Tamarin shoved past Turtle, prompting him to immediately spin around and race after them. Kinkajou followed, and they left Pike shoved to the ground. He wasn't idle for long, though. With a roar, he clambered his way up the steps three at a time.
"Faster!" Turtle screeched. The shapes moving above him became a blur. He urged his exhausted legs to pump faster, and made it to the top, following Anemone and Tamarin to the grand ballroom where the reception was being held. The duo skidded to the stop in the middle, and Turtle crashed into them. Looking up, he saw multiple of Pike's dragons standing over them.
"We've got them." They smiled crookedly, showing that they were traitors to the whole room of dragons. Queen Coral, who was chatting with some of her subjects in a corner turned to see Tamarin be picked up like a rag dragon toy that Snapdragon had. Turtle landed hard against a wall as one threw him, sending cracks through the pearl.
"Stop!" Coral yelled commandingly, but the thugs continued away with Tamarin. Anemone scrambled to her feet.
"Someone! Help her! Please!" She pleaded.
"I wouldn't take orders from her." Pike sauntered calmly through the doors. "Anemones the real traitor here."
Woohoo! We're at the finale!
If you made it this far, congratulations!
