Chapter 3- Presents from the bottom of one's heart... or not

AN: I know some people would usually do a "Secret Santa" type of thing, meaning one character gives one gift to someone, well as bored as I was I made everyone give something to everyone, or at least as groups (couples or families).

Megwas the first to be under the Tree. "Oh, here's one with my name on it!"Christine smiled when she saw her opening the box. "This is amazing!" theballet girl pulled out a silver pendant that glittered in the light. It had asmall swan ornament. "Who knew, I want to dance the swan queen!" "Well, whoknew..." Christine said as Meg hugged her. "I know you will dance one day asOdette, you deserve it." She said, hugging her back. Antoinette made a remarkabout her having to practice a lot before she can dream about such a demandingrole, but Meg's mood didn't drop. "Oh Christine, it must have been soexpensive!" Meg said. "Actually, I picked it, Raoul paid for it." In the meantime,Joseph picked several other smaller gifts and gave them away.

Erik looked atthe present in his hand. Why would someone remember him? Christine! He pulledout a wooden box and inside was a rather strange, long stick. The Phantomstared at it, confused. "What..." "Oh dear, musical genius, and he has never seena baton." Eva remarked. It finally clicked in his head. "Wait. That's fromyou?" he asked. "And me." Ché added. "What," it seemed now that Erik was justsearching for a reason to be angry. "does it seem like I will ever be conducting an orchestra? Are you being ironical? Areyou..." Ché sighed. "I knew you were going to react something like that, but thenagain, we couldn't figure out what else to give to you." Erik noticed MadameGiry glaring at him. "Merci." He finally got out of his mouth. "De nada," Evawarbled.

Raoul in the meantime was suspiciously examining a wrapped presentwhich had a very similar shape to the one Ché was holding. When he unwrappedit, there was a bottle of wine with a sign saying "Altocedro". Ché pulled out abottle of wine as well, titled "Moët & Chandon".They exchanged glances. "Same idea," the Argentinian laughed. "That is aprecious French wine, I'm sure you'll love it." Raoul said. "You know, we makethe best wines in the world." Ché smirked. "Oh, really? Argentine wine isbetter. It's just not as famous because it's not from "la Frrrrance." Hemispronounced it on purpose. "You bet? What about we open it now and test whichis better?" Raoul suggested. "I hope you two are not planning to get drunk herenow." Antoinette stopped them. "I'm glad there is no Italian among us,otherwise this would turn into a never ending fight." Raoul put the bottledown. "Alright. I'll save it for a romantic evening after my wedding." Ché chuckled."France retreating, typical. 1:0 for Argentina." But he put his bottle aside aswell. "Shut up for once." Raoul laughed, and then turned to his fiancée.

Christinewas holding a flat square box which she just unwrapped. She opened it. Insidethere was a beautiful necklace made of pearls and sapphires. "Oh Raoul," shegasped. "It's so beautiful." "Just like the fjords of your homeland." Hesmiled. Ché looked aside. The necklace looked really expensive... he watched asRaoul put it around Christine's neck, kissing her neck furtively, and the shethen walked around gaining compliments from all the women in the room. Josephin the meantime unwrapped his gift, revealing a small box of chocolates. "Oh,that is so nice! Who is it from?" Madame Giry pointed towards the masked man,who was struggling to open another gift. "Why, Erik, thank you!" he saidhappily. "Ummm...yeah.." At that moment Eva unwrapped the exact same chocolate.Antoinette raised her eyebrows. "Oh, yeah, thank you, Erik." She said with aslight sarcasm, because she realised what Erik just did. During the wholeevening, everyone else opened the same gift, the same box of chocolates, exceptfor Christine. Antoinette put Meg's away because of her prima ballerina future.Norma was always getting either jewellery, or sweets, so it didn't matter toher.

AN: Okay, in case there are any Erik hardore fangirls, I'm sorry, but I enjoy making him annoying. :D

Eva proceeded to open a very elegant perfume bottle. "I hope it will helpyou make up that argument later, whatever you two were arguing about." Megwhispered into her ear. Eva's eyes widened. "Oh my, you're not as innocent as Ithought you were..." the ballerina grinned and just said: "It's from me and mum."And then she ran away to open another gift, a really pretty bracelet and a hairbun. It showed that Norma must have cared for each of her visitor's interest,at least a little. Joseph stood up and decided he will give away the gifts fromhim at once. "As you may know, my father owns big herd of sheep. The wool is ofgreat quality, so I decided to bring each of you a little something."Christine, Eva and Ché got a scarf, Meg nice socks ("Oh, these will be greatfor warming up en pointe in winter!") Raoul and Antoinette each a pair ofgloves and Norma and Erik a sweater. "Oh, dear, it looks so warm." Ms Desmondsmiled. "Really?" Erik asked. "Oh, I'm sorry if you don't like it, but Ithought it would go handy since it must be so cold underground..." Joseph washolding back his laugh as Erik glared at him daggers, but after another sternlook from Madame Giry he managed to say "Thanks". Ché was setting up a watchfrom the Giry's and Raoul opened his father's favorite book of poems, which hegot from Christine. His fiancée leaned on his arm. "Maybe one day, we will readfrom it to a smaller version of us." She whispered. Before Raoul blushed, but before he could react,Christine went away to respond to Eva calling, to whom she gave a hairpin. "Ithough you love experimenting with your hair." "I do!" they hugged each other.

Joseph proceeded to open a set of glasses. "Wow," he looked mesmerized at it."You're welcome, dear." Norma winked. "Oh my... each for my brothers... but... missDesmond, I can't accept this, I mean, it's nice, but I don't think I will useit and it must have been so expensive..." Raoul elbowed him. "There is anothergift with your name on it. Maybe you will realize that you actually need this."Joseph opened a box with another bottle of Moët & Chandon, but a differenttype than Ché got. "Man, you want to get us all drunk." He laughed. "Actually, this was Christine's idea." Joseph shook his head. After all, his brothersliked drinking.

Antoinette was examining a LP with classical melodies. Sheliked getting practical gifts, and this would be handy for her ballet pupils. As Erik opened a big and luxurious chocolate box from Norma (Which was quite asurprise) everyone got freaked by Meg's screaming. "What's wrong?" Raoul asked."OH MY GOD IT'S THE QUEEN THANK YOU MUM!" she ran towards Antoinette squeezingher in a hug. It was the most special gift she could get – a programme of SwanLake signed by Anna Pavlova herself.  (Don't we all love Meg being little nerdy ballet fangirl?) "Mum, did you open the gift from me yet?""I don't think so..." Meg ran under the tree and grabbed a gift. "Oh my... wheredid you get that?" It was a small, but beautiful portrait. Madame had her hair in a very elegant braid flowingaround her figure, which was all in the art nouveau style. In the bottom rightcorner, there was a sign of the author. Mucha. "Mü-sha?" She attempted topronounce it. "Actually, he told me his name is pronounced moo-ha or somethinglike that. I don't know. He's not French. His accent was so cute." Meg babbled."Mucha... wait, Norma, can you show me that poster you had over there..." Madameasked. "The one of Sarah Bernhardt?" Antoinette shivered. "Wait. That's SarahBernardt? THAT Sarah Bern... oh my God." In front of her was indeed, a portraitof the famous actress, in the same elegant style, and with the same signaturein the corner. "I...can't believe the same artist who works for Sarah Bernhardthas painted me." "So, do you likeit?" Meg asked. Madame Giry hugged her daughter as everyone smiled at thatsight. "It's amazing, thank you, darling."

(I apologize. Alphonse Mucha was a czech painter... well why not put him here LOL)

The horde of gifts was gettingsmaller. "Oh my, tango? I have no idea who could have given me this..." Christinesaid jokingly, looking at Eva. "Yeah, songstress, if you ever get tired ofopera, you may try this type of a song." She winked. Christine opened the bookand read one of the titles. "On this night of a thousand stars... that soundsbeautiful-""Please, no, not THAT song." Ché remarked. Eva just sighed.

"I likethis a lot." Joseph seemed to be fascinated by a set of pens he got from theGiry's. "You know, I'm always full of ideas..." At that moment, Erik freaked out."Oh, Christine! This is the most amazing gift ever! I will write you just theperfect role!" Erik was holding an empty staff note book. "Um, I'm glad thatyou like it, but you don't have to overreact..." "I have a perfect song just foryou. Why would you sing this nonsense." He threw aside the tango song book."Now that's just rude." Ché remarked. Erik ignored him and put a sheet music infront of shocked Christine. "Wow, Erik..." she mumbled. "You really did not haveto do this." She looked at Madame to save her, but she was lost in reading abook she got as a present. "I...I will definitely practice this, yes..." thoughtshe didn't feel so comfortable doing it. "Thank you." "Christine!" Her bestfriend came to save her. "There is one last gift for you you didn't open!"Christine gasped as she found a fairytale book she and Meg would read when theywere younger. "Oh Meg, this brings back so much memories!" she hugged herfriend as she was about to cry. Erik backed away realizing nobody is payingattention to him. Just as he sat back into his armchair, the old cat arrived athis feet. And she kept staring at him.

"Oh wait, here's another one for me!"Meg got excited a bit too much. She opened it to find a pair of shoes on heels."Heels? Aren't you a bit too young for them?" Antoinette got overprotective. The ballerina rolled her eyes. "Mum... oh, they're my exact size!" from next toher she heard a sigh of relief. "Well, miss dancer, we thought that if you everwant to try a different style of dance, these might come handy." Ché smiled.Meg's eyes widened. "Tango?" "Yes! I was worried they wouldn't fit you." Evareplied. "But I have no idea how to dance that!" She stood up in them. "Oh comeon, I'll teach you..." Eva took her hand and led her to the centre of the hall. Aftera moment, they could hear giggles from the girls. "Great, I'll be singing tangosongs and you'll be dancing it." Christine laughed, watching them.

Ché waswatching it all silently. He was drinking champagne, still feeling down afterthat argument. Joseph tapped his shoulder. "There are still a few gifts. Whydon't you check if one of them is for you?" The Argentinian suspiciously lookedunder the tree... there was one gift for Joseph which he still hasn't opened, onesigned Erik which was obviously Madame's writing and the last one, quite big, with a very familiar shape. And there stood a sweet writing – "for the one whowouldn't stop following me". Eva noticed it and turned with giggling Meg aroundaway from the tree, "And now the guy goes backwards and you... bend your knees!"Ché tore the paper to reveal a guitar neck. "Oh my..." he looked towards Evita, who was pretending to ignore him. He put the guitar around his neck. "A musicalinstrument? To this wretch? Seriously???" Erik started complaining again. "Canyou stop?" Raoul nudged him. Ché played a chord. "And it's so terribly off!"Erik scoffed. "Because it has been packed. Nothing that couldn't be tuned." Evaheard the chord and shivered. At then she felt him standing behind her. Sheturned towards Ché. "I'm faaalliiing..." Meg squealed. Christine caught her. "Whydon't you show me what you just learned...?" she led her away from them. "Fromyou...?" Ché asked. "Who else...?" she answered with a question. His lips turnedupwards. "So do you li..." before she could finish the question, he pressed hislips against hers. She almost fell backwards before he caught her waist, whilethey actually moved a bit. When they pulled apart, he said. "It's gorgeous. Butnot as much as you, belleza." Eva's gaze moved up above them. Ché looked up aswell. On the chandelier, there were leaves of mistletoe. "What's that? Is Erikgoing to bring it down? Should I..." Eva cut his speech, "Shut up and kiss me,idiot." She said in the deepest voice she could before she kissed him again.Raoul shook his head. "Either they're arguing or they're making out." Hechuckled. Christine snuggled against his shoulder. "Next is our turn." Shewinked. Raoul blushed and smiled awkwardly, but caressed her shoulder.

"Alright, what does this do?" Erik asked, confused at the machine that he just opened."Um, it's called a phonograph." Madame Giry said. Erik was still confused. "Itrecords sound. I know you're against all technology in music, but this is thefirst thing they ever used to record it. (Makes zero sense, considering there are characters from times with better recording technology, but then again, this thing makes NO sense IN GENERAL, so... cope with it :D) Look, this is how it works..." Josephopened the last gift. "Oh my, what is this?" the colourful soft scarf fittedperfectly to his coat. At that moment, the phonograph repeated what Joseph justsaid. "Antoinette..." Erik said softly. Madame smiled. He hadn't called her thatfor long, and now it seemed that he may finally calm down a little. "Oh, it'sso warm! But it's not from sheep, is it?" Joseph kept warbling. "Wait..." thekissing couple finally stopped doing what they were. "That's a Peruvian scarffrom alpaca wool." Eva explained. "Is Alpaca this colourful?" "No... they dye it.These are the traditional colours of Cuzco, they use the rainbows everywhere."Ché answered. Joseph raised his gaze. "So that's why you talked about Cuzcobefore..." Raoul played with the scarf. "I seriously thought you gave it to himbecause he wears gay pride coat." Joseph turned to him. "I said, this is a coatfrom my father! And actually, this scarf fits with it so well..." Christinecaressed it. "It's so soft. We should visit Peru, Raoul." Eva smiled. "If weknew that you'd like it so much, we would take one for you as well." Raoulnodded. "Maybe we should see the whole continent while we're here. What do yousay, Ché? We'd need guides." The latter shrugged. "Why not...?" The girls startedimmediately planning their trip even though it wasn't sure yet whether theywill go or not. "I'd go with you. Even though I might be playing the gooseberrythere a bit, I would love to see Brazil..." Joseph started. "Please no, notBrazil." Ché frowned, as Raoul remarked "Typical Argentinian." While laughing.

(Maybe I should write another fanfic about ALW's kids visiting South America.)
