Chapter 13

CHAPTER 13

Mamoru Nanami had never understood women, perhaps it was because he'd never had a friend, that was a girl. His entire childhood had been spent with Satoshi, and later Manabu, and when he entered the military, he was surrounded by men once again. He thought he understood Minori, because he knew her pretty well, but currently, Minori was acting stranger than he'd ever seen her act. He blamed it on the influx of emotions that she experienced because he'd almost died, but even that didn't fully explain Jun's strange behaviour right that second. There were a million possible scenarios that flitted through his head, from her having some sort of fatal disease, to her and Manabu accidentally doing something together they shouldn't have, because they'd been spending an awful lot of time in the infirmary together. When he awoke next to her the next morning, she seemed perfectly fine, but something was still different. She didn't look the same, something about her was different and Mamoru couldn't put his finger on it. As soon as his eyes opened, Jun darted out of the bed, and into his bathroom. Immediately, he was sitting up. Something was definitely not right.

"You alright, Minori-chan?" He called out, trying to ascertain what she was doing in the bathroom in the first place.

"Oh, yeah," he heard her answer, "I just really needed to pee. Sorry." When she emerged, Mamoru looked her body up and down. He was looking for something, he didn't know what, but he needed to find something, that was, until he laid eyes on her breasts. Jun had never been huge, if he were being honest, and he would know, he'd seen her breasts quite a few times. She used to say she was blessed with small breasts, but even then, she still wore a binder. It was a precaution, if anyone were to see she had breasts, her gig would be up. That morning, however, underneath his shirt, her breasts looked bigger than he had ever seen them.

"Minori-chan, this is going to sound weird," he raised an eyebrow, and watched her smile, "but... did you get... bigger?" Immediately, her eyes went down to her breasts, and she blushed, trying to cover them with her hands, but immediately removing them afterwards.

"Well, I guess. Maybe?" She shrugged, and came to sit next to him. He continued to try to observe anything else, looking at her breasts constantly, not because he was finding the change attractive, because he was, but because he was interested.

"Are you still wearing the binder?" He asked, and she turned to him.

"No, it got too pain—" She stopped herself before she could say anything, refusing to say anything afterwards.

"Minori." He said her name softly, narrowing his eyes at her. She couldn't look him in the eye, it was now or never though. The night she'd spent thinking about her future, had given her some time to think. She could barely sleep, anyway, but she thought about how she could break it to him.

"It's fine, Mamoru. It's just... that time of month, you know how it is." She shrugged herself upwards, and walked over to his bathroom again, shutting the door behind her, and shedding the shirt. It was becoming harder and harder to hide from him, with her symptoms coming in sooner than Manabu had advised. She shed his shirt onto the floor, and observed her body. It was true, her breasts had definitely gone up a cup size, or even two, and were peeling out of her tiny bra. She'd been a B cup before everything, but now, she was well-approaching a big C. She couldn't deny it anymore, the overwhelming urge to pee, the ravenous hunger, the insomnia, and the god-awful nausea. She had to tell him that she was... pregnant... with his child. There was no denying it anymore, Jun was pregnant, and anyone with half a brain would know if they observed her close enough. She didn't know how she was going to continue hiding it, because she could barely wear the binder anymore, it hurt so much, sometimes she felt like she was going to actually die if she didn't take it off. She'd started showing earlier than Manabu had reckoned, he'd said they'd have until at least the 20-week mark before it started becoming blatantly obvious, but Jun was starting to panic. When she got out of the shower, and put Mamoru's shirt back on, she felt safer, but only for a second, because now she was going to have to brave walking past him again hoping that he didn't notice the now obvious changes to her small body. She scooped her uniform off the floor, and casually walked back into the bathroom. For Mamoru, it was strange, she'd always changed in front of him. She struggled into her uniform, barely able to buckle the pants, and hoped that the binder wouldn't bother her too much on her way to Manabu. In a panic, she stood in front of the mirror, hoping that she didn't look too different. Her hair was wet, and in her face, and the binder didn't look like it was working well enough anymore. However, on the up side, her belly was definitely not visible. It looked like she'd gained some weight, or perhaps muscle, and that was fine with her. She just needed to scurry to Manabu's office, and kill him for not telling her about the early stages.

"I've got to go," she said, as she pulled on her shoes, and slicked her hair out of her face, "got to see Manabu really quick." She came up to him, while tapping her voice modulator, and placed a kiss on his cheek.

She could see he wasn't satisfied, one of his eyebrows arched upwards, "you've been spending an awful lot of time with Manabu."

Her face softened, "I know, Mamoru," she stood in front of him, "but I promise. It's not what you think, okay? Manabu's just helping me out with a... dilemma." He still wasn't satisfied, but the "I love you" fell from his lips too easily, and then she was out the door.

The walk to Manabu's infirmary had never felt so long. When she arrived, she was almost in tears that he was alone.

"Manabu!" She practically tackled him, the tears now streaming down her cheeks like little waterfalls, "I'm so happy to see you."

"Woah, Minori-chan. Are you alright?" He remarked, a funny looking smile stuck on his face. She sat down on one of the hospital beds, and wiped the tears.

"No, I'm freaking out," her voice returned to normal, "you said I was safe. My symptoms wouldn't start showing until later, way later, like 12-weeks later." He pulled her into a back room. It was dimly lit, before he switched on the lights, and closed the door.

"What do you mean, showing? My calculations should've been correct." His eyebrow raised in confusion. At this, Jun unzipped her tight uniform top, and removed the binder, her breasts falling down in all their newly giant glory. Manabu's eyes widened, and he blushed, vibrantly.

"Stop being a pervert," she scolded him, and started to wrap the binder around her breasts once again, but couldn't bind it together, without wincing, "do you see my problem? They're huge Manabu. I'm a B cup, for reference."

Manabu did the calculations in his head, and then asked, "what else has been showing?"

"Well, the nausea started super early. Remember that one day where I barely left Mamoru's room, and told everyone I had food poisoning or something. I could barely leave the room I was so sick," she shook her head, remembering that day, "recently, these... things," she gestured down to her breasts, "have been growing like crazy. I'm peeing like something out of a horror movie, and I'm so thirsty as if I'm dehydrated all the time. Not to mention the unbearable hunger, and the insomnia." It clicked for Manabu, then.

"I might have made a mistake." He admitted, "we'll need to get a check-up, but I only have an outdated ultrasound machine."

"Better than travelling to the Hiyokuna and hoping to get a scan there." She shrugged, as Manabu left the room, and retrieved a retro looking machine. He lay her down on a nearby bed, closed the door, and then squirted some cold jelly on her stomach. From this angle, she could definitely see the bump, it wasn't noticeable if she were standing up, and if she got herself a bigger, baggier uniform, she should be okay. Manabu moved some sort of thing around her stomach, and started laughing.

"What?" It obviously wasn't very funny to Jun.

"Congratulations, Minori-chan," he said with an amused smile, "you're having twins."

"You're not serious." It felt as if Jun's breath had been knocked out of her lungs, but it became all too real when Manabu turned the outdated screen in her direction, and there they were. Two little things, floating around in the darkness. Two distinct figures.

"And identical, by the looks of it." Manabu remarked, turning the screen away.

"We've got problems, now that we've discovered you're having twins. We're not safe anymore. You're already starting to show," Manabu looked down at her stomach, "does your uniform still fit?"

"Barely, I couldn't button the pants this morning." Jun answered.

"That's another problem, there's no way I can get you maternity wear without looking suspicious. I don't have a wife, and neither does Satoshi or Mamoru, or anyone we know, and trust for that matter. I can't get you any maternity bras either, because the binder isn't going to work anymore. We've got problems, Minori-chan. Twins move twice as fast as normal pregnancies, and have way more risks. You're going to pop at 17-weeks."

"So, we've got 7 weeks to make a plan." It hit her then, she had to tell Mamoru now. She couldn't hide it anymore. She needed him to help her through this pregnancy.

"Basically, but don't worry. I'm going to try and procure some looser fitting uniforms, and ask if we can get some better bras for the girls. I can't promise you anything, though. And this might be strange, but I'm going to need to measure you." He smiled sheepishly.

"You're loving this." She shook her head, and lifted her shirt, removing the binder. Manabu pulled measuring tape around her breasts, and nodded.

"Okay," Manabu opened the door, after Jun had redressed herself, "now you need to tell Mamoru." She was preparing herself for it, later in the day, but unfortunately, Mamoru Nanami stood in the doorway, looking displeased as ever.

"Tell me what, Manabu?" He narrowed his eyes at his friend, who shrunk beneath the gaze Mamoru usually gave Yutaka.

"Calm down, and take me to your quarters. I can't risk it here." She spoke cautiously, and took his hand in hers. She could see he was highly dissatisfied as he glided through the halls of the compound, and opened the doors to his quarters. As soon as he closed them once again, Jun started to remove her uniform, shedding the pants, and standing in front of Mamoru with her breasts practically peeling out of the too-small bra, and the slightly noticeable bump on her stomach.

"Are you trying to kill me, Minori-chan." His eyes were on her breasts, but she laughed.

"I've always trusted you, Mamoru. You know that, because your morals are better than the rest of the soldiers. But I've got a problem now, I've got to make a big decision, and I don't know whether I can include you in it," she bit her lip, unable to stop the tears, "it's probably going to be the biggest decision of our lives, you know, and you've got to think fast, because I've made up my mind. You've noticed the changes in my body, you'd be blind not to. So here it is, I'm pregnant, Mamoru, and not just singular. I mean, twins. You're going to be a father, and I can't stop... crying." She hesitated, but she didn't let him speak just yet.

"What you said, back when we rescued Takahashi, did you mean it? About women not being objects, that they were more important than your duties? Because that's the decision. I'm not going to doom my child – children – to a life where they have to follow the rules. That's the decision, Mamoru," she straightened up, wiped her tears, and looked him dead in the eye. His expression was unreadable, "is it going to be me – I mean, your children – or your country?"

"Minori-chan," his face suddenly shifted, and immediately he enveloped her in a giant hug. She was too happy to complain about the pain, "I don't care about my damned country. I don't care about anything else. I'm ecstatic about this. Of course, it's you, Minori. It's always you." And then she cried, mostly because of the damn hormones, but also because she knew she loved him, and knew that whatever these two children inside her were going to be, he would love them too. And that was enough for Jun.
