Chapter 9: The Headmaster's Son
I rubbed my bleary eyes and walked out of my room, already dressed up. There was pearly glow in the sky. Another day has begun bringing with it new hopes and aspirations.
It was Friday, exactly November 14th, 2008. The small colourful cute butterflies danced all around the green, shady flowerbeds outside, looking for sweet nectar. The flowers scent filled the environment making the morning so pleasant. Fresh, windy, cool and crispy air started whistling like an invisible ghost. The greenish beautiful countless leaves whispered to each other about their morning plans. As if something special was going to happen, I felt it in my guts. Maybe probably, it's because of the contest that was going to hold later that day, and I was ready.
Walking of the building, I looked around in search of my uncle. Then, I saw him seated outside on the sunlounger under the big tree beside our house. He rested his back, folded his legs on each other with National Echo Newspaper in his hands.
A wide smile spread across my lips. It's been ages since I last saw him read newspaper and perhaps, I didn't drag him into or out of bed today. Isn't it a good thing?
"Good morning, Uncle." I walked up to him, excitedly.
I wanted to tell him about the contest but I stopped in between. I decided not to, he might decline again. It's obvious that he won't let me go. I'd already hidden the red gown Amber got for me. He probably won't know about this.
"You're reading?"
"Yes. The day is bright and fair, a little vitamin D won't hurt. And who knows, a job might be waiting for me out there. " He muttered and turned to me, sitting upright. Then he closed his newspaper, narrowing his eyes at me.
"There's something different about you today. There's this glow in your eyes. Why is that?"
"I guess because today's Friday." I blushed.
A serious smirk formed on his slim lips. As his blue eyes observed me thoroughly. "Sweetheart, is there something I should know about?"
"No." I smiled faintly. "I'll be going now. See you later."
I turned to leave.
"Syl!" He called me. I turned back to look at him.
"Come here."
I walked to him, thinking he wanted to tell me something important, I ducked.
"Come closer." He whispered. I did as he asked.
"All the clothes in my wardrobe are dirty and I might be coming late today. Make sure you don't leave home after school today, okay?"
"Okay si-" My words were interrupted my his hand that quickly grabbed my jawline.
I didn't know what happened, I felt a soft kiss planted on my lips. It happened so fast as I pulled away. A frown killed my expression at what just happened.
It was awkward silent, only the bird's chirping could be heard. He gazed into my eyes, with pride in his. My eyes watched his lips form a curvier smirk as a shiver ran through my spine. I suddenly felt hypnotized as if the breeze hit a million thoughts against my mind. And, everything around me felt different. I was lost.
"You can go now." Collins rolled his eyes at me with satisfaction.
Without any words. I swallowed hard on my throat and stood upright. A strange feeling blew through me. I couldn't understand why he did that. Tear pricked out if my eyes as I walked through the narrow brick path out of the wicket gate opening. As if joy suddenly left me. As if my strength to happiness made faded. I looked back at him in disappointment. He laid back and focused on his newspaper. He poured a bottle of beer into the beer cup, gently sipping it as his eyes scrolled through.
Strolling along the lane in sadness, my eyes caught the single-decker bus that parked at the bus stop. It was just 7:30 a.m, luckily, I came on time without missing the public bus today. Only a couple of passangers were seated. I took a seat and placed my heavy head against the side window.
'Yesterday, Noah stole my first kiss. Today, it's my uncle. What is going to happen tomorrow?' My vision went blurry with tears as reality hit me hard.
'As everyday passes, I miss my parents even more. If only they were alive.' I wished.

Getting off the bus, I wiped away my tears and adjusted my hair. Joining the thousand of students walking into Evermore High. Just then, my eyes caught Noah with a swollen chin that had the shape of an amoeba. How unfortunate, Amber's beating disfigured his pretty face. Even Adam had a black eye while Zayn didn't come. Who knows, he might have broken a bone of something. Seeing Noah walk pass me made me want to apologise but he owes me one.
Looking at him sympathetically,
Noah rolled his eyes at me spitefully and walked pass me. I really hate making enemies but he kind of deserves it. It's weird. It's weird how nobody dares to face or challenge him till now, except Amber. I wonder if his dad, the headteacher also is also felt pained or he's just turning a blind eye about it. Speaking about the witch and here she comes. No, my fairy Godmother.
"Good morning Amber!" A smile brightened up my full face.
"Good morning Sylvia!" She held me in a soft hug, holding a box to the side
"Oh, before we get in. Here are the shoes. I want you to try them on before the first class. Come on, let's go to the gym locker room." She pulled my arm as I followed her excitedly. Putting it on, her shoes were my exact fit.
"Oh my, these are so perfect. Thank you." I gave smiled, looking at my reflection on the wide, wall mirror.
"I'm glad you love them." She smiled back at me. I took the black, shiny heels and carefully placed them back into the box. Just then, the bell rang for our first class.
It was English In Literature Class. Amber and I Sat together. Mr. Brown shared our script and it was an excellent one. Everything was going smoothly until the teacher handed Noah his script, since he sat alone.
In anger, he tore up his script in crumbles like a monster tearing up it's prey. He stood up from his seat, about to leave but Mr Brown blocked his way.
Everyone turned to them in utmost surprise.
"What's it, Coleman?"
"I'm Noah, idiot!" He pushed Mr. Brown away, making him fall on his butt. Without thinking, Noah ran out of the class in blackout rage.
"Hahahaha!!!" The class roared out aggressively into laughter except me. I don't know why, I felt something was wrong. It could be because of what happened yesterday.
Amber crushed the bubble gum in her mouth and chewed on it. "He's such as asshole!" She hissed underneath her breath.
"Okay, calm down! Calm down..." Mr Brown quickly stood up and continued the lecture that was about to end anyway. The sound of the school alarm made him let out a scoff in annoyance.
"Ugh! Such a waste of time!" He picked up his book. "We would continue from where we stopped next week." He announced before leaving the class.
Meanwhile, Noah went to the male toilet. Fighting down the pressure in his head, he grabbed his hair, full fist in burning anger and rage. Looking at his refection on the mirror, he hit his fist arrogantly at it, making it crack into the shaped of cob webs.
"Ugh!" He grunt out in pain as blood poured out if his fist. I hate myself! I fucking hate myself!" He admitted in his groggy voice making tears cloud in his red eyes, full of regret.
Although, he tried. Noah could no longer hold the the heartbreak. He could no longer hold the pressure of pain, shane and anxiety that filled his heart. As if it was too much for him to bear. Noah tore down into gut-wrentching sobs that tore down his chest. His grief poured out in flood of uncontrollable tears as he held the sink for support. His hands trembled as he held unto it, tightly. Looking at his refection on the broken mirror, Noah's eyes bled with pain.
The live his parents live, led him to this. Mr Johnson Coleman, his dad is an education freak. All he does is care about the school, better than his family, while he sleeps with most of the single parents in Evermore High. His mum on the other hand is a religious freak. As lonely as a widow, all Lizzy would do is to convince him to be a better son. She cries most nights and drawn herself to the ocean of tears and alcohol. Yes, it would have been better if they were divorced but the pressure of being the perfect couple, the perfect family eats them up. Noah as the only child, suffers even more. He lets out his anger by bullying others. Well, that's the one thing he's good at.
Thinking about home, Noah splashed his swollen face vigorously, with water. He lets out a soft sigh, trying to calm his nerves.
"I need to teach that bitch a lesson." He said promisingly before leaving the toilet.
