It came as no surprise that George's parents really weren't keen on the idea of him moving overseas so suddenly, let alone in with a man they had yet to meet.
Technically, they had met him. But they had met him as Dream, the lead singer of (Dream)ing Of The Disco, and not as Clay, George's boyfriend.
And so, that's how George ended up cross legged on his parents couch, bracketed by his parents themselves, with his laptop perched on his knees and an outgoing call to his boyfriend.
George couldn't tell whether his heart was hammering so fast that he couldn't feel it any longer or whether it had just stopped all together. His hands were sweating and trembling and oh god, did he smell bad? He's pretty sure he smelt bad. It's fine, it's his parents, he's smelt bad in front of his parent before and he's pretty sure Clay can't smell him through the screen so it's fine. It's okay, everything's great.
Except if it's not great. Except if George's parents don't like Clay or- or if they tell Clay some weird story about George and Clay decides that George is too much of a freak or a weirdo and doesn't want him any more.
Or if they tell him about how annoying he is to live with, the little things he'd managed to hide over the two separate weeks they'd spent together - that sometimes he drools when he sleeps; that sometimes he leaves socks on the floor around the house; that sometimes he can't be bothered to do the laundry so he'll walk around in these tiny black shorts that he kept from way too long ago or his pyjama pants that he really should replace and this graying and stained white shirt that he doesn't remember buying; that sometimes-
"Hi." Clay's voice echoed through the room as his face appeared on the screen. His smile was nervous but warm as he waved.
"Hi, Clay! It's so nice to finally meet you." George's mother greeted, his father waving back with a kind smile.
"It's so nice to finally meet you too, Mr and Mrs Davidson."

It was going well. Oh good Lord, it was going so well. George's parents liked him. They liked Clay.
George's dad found him funny, laughing loudly at jokes George wasn't sure whether he understood or not but Clay did and George's dad did and good Lord George could finally breathe again. George's mum found him charming, too and didn't that just add on to the relief George felt flooding his lungs?
They got along well and Clay looked just as relaxed, just as confident as he always was. Almost like he belonged there.
And wasn't that a dangerous thought? That Clay belonged with - in - his family? That he seemed to just fit, to slot perfectly in beside George as though he'd always been there.
George could almost picture the cheesy Christmas photos in tacky, matching Christmas sweaters made by his grandmother that they'd send to George's and Clay's families. He could picture turning up to birthdays and various celebrations with Clay at his hip, arm tucked around his waist or slung around his shoulders. How disgustingly domestic of him.
"George? You still with us?" Clay called somewhat teasingly but George could hear the underlying tone of concern. George simply smiled.
It was one thing George's parents had noticed rather early on, how very much Clay cared about George. The way he'd attempt to read him and always be ready to be there for George with exactly the right words. George's parents had noticed early on just how very much Clay loved George.
"I think you lost me when dad started talking about cricket." George quipped by way of reassurance and felt a swell of what could only be labelled love at the mingling laughs of his parents and boyfriend. Of his family.
"Oh good, you didn't hear us telling Clay about your little incident in high school." His mother joked, squeezing his arm as his father elbowed and George flushed with a stuttered 'what'.

"Georgie! Georgie Worgie," A poorly replicated British accent sung through his headset and George giggled, glancing at where the chat began spamming names.
"Hello Sapnap." He greeted with a wide smile, still riding on the high of the fact that he'd be moving in with Clay over the next few weeks. That his parents had taken to Clay almost immediately and had readily agreed and even offered their own help.
"You're moving! You're gonna be here, Gogy!" He continued cheering and George could do nothing but laugh. He nodded dumbly at the face cam.
"I am, I am." He responded, laughing elatedly. He was about to speak again when they were interrupted by a robotic voice announcing Buddy has joined your channel.
"Hi!" If George's chat had been fast before, it was light-speed now. The majority of the comments being som variant of 'DREAM??', 'ITS HE', or 'PISSBABY!'.
"Dreamy-pie!" Sapnap greeted in the same sing song tone that he had George.
"Sappy-Nappy!" Dream sung in reply and George couldn't help his laughter.
It took little effort to notice that George was giddier, easier to laugh and almost permanently smiling this stream but precisely no one was complaining. It was nice, to hear his happiness in his voice and see it clearly on his face as he continued to play, now accompanied by two of his favourite people.
"Am I the only one that's glad to see Sapnap and Dream are still friends? I was scared their friendship was lost after what happened." The familiar robotic voice read and George grinned in both fondness and memory.
"I'm glad too," Dream responded and Sapnap let out a loud coo "it wouldn't be the Dream Team without him."
"Keep being soft and I'll start crying, bro, no cap." Sapnap responded, pretending to sniffle into his mic.
Yeah. George was glad for it as well.

I am short circuiting because I hit 1k part way through writing this and cannot stop crying, thank you all so much. The Not Normal Nation is growing so fast and has come so far and I'm so very glad for each and every one of you. You guys are the best thing to have ever happened to me and some of the best friends I could ever ask for, even if you're kinda cursed sometimes. I love you all so much, my wildflowers.
Feedback is welcome and appreciated!!
Yours, Dandelion.
