Hi, friends!

I was just looking through some old documents on my dad's computer, trying to find stuff to get rid of, and I found this play that we started writing together. I was just rereading it, and it is actually pretty funny! I was tearing up I was laughing so hard, so I thought I should share it with you. Maybe it's just because it's a childhood memory that's resurfacing again, but tell me what you think.

Characters

Director – The most confused of all.

I Don't Know / Anybody (McKenna) – Kind of the leader.

Somebody / You (Ashley) – Wants everything to be perfect.

Mad / Nobody (Samantha) – The really fast one.

Everybody / Which One (Julie) – Just likes to be silly.

Scene I (at a stage somewhere)

McKenna: Hey guys, let's make up a play!

Ashley: Good idea. What should it be about?

Samantha: Shouldn't the director decide what it's about?

McKenna: We're ALL the directors, until we find one.

Julie: Then let's put an ad in the newspaper for a director!

Ashley: We should get a professional, because I want a good play.

Samantha: I'll go tell the editor of the newspaper. (walks off stage, counts to 15 and comes back on)

Julie: Wow, that was fast!

Samantha: It's just down the block.

McKenna: Ok, ok! Guys, I have an idea: let's come up with weird names for our characters. Each of us gets to play two characters. One of my characters will be named, "I Don't Know". The other one will be named, "Anybody".

Ashley: Cool! Ok, I'll be a character named (thinks a minute) "Somebody", and another one named (pause) "You".

Samantha: I get it! Well then, my characters will be named, "Mad" and "Nobody".

Julie: Too funny! My characters will be named, "Everybody", and "Which One". What do you think?

All: (all the characters start talking at once, making a big noise of excitement) GREAT! This is going to be crazy! Wow! Fun! Neat! Awesome!

McKenna: Guys, guys – Let's start writing and practicing the scripts.

Julie: Why are you calling us "guys", we're all girls?

McKenna: It's just an expression! Now here's an expression for you: Get going!

(All the girls exit)

Scene II (at McKenna's house)

(The Director enters, holding a newspaper).

Director: Hmmmm....these kids want a professional play director. Hey, I'm one! I think this is the house where they are going to practice.

(Ding dong! The doorbell rings)

Julie: Someone's at the door, I bet it's our new Director.

Samantha: Go get the door McKenna, it's your house.

Ashley: But let's get into our characters. One of yours was named "I Don't Know", right?

McKenna: Ok, Ok. (answers the door)

Director: Hi, I'm answering an ad for a play Director. Who lives here?

McKenna: I Don't Know!

Director: You don't know who lives here?

McKenna: Yes I do.

Director: Well who is it?

McKenna: I Don't Know!

Director: ARRG! Well is this where the play is being rehearsed?

McKenna: Yes, come in!

Director: So are these the kids who want to do a play!?

All Kids Together: YES!

Julie: (whispering to the other girls) Remember, we're practicing using our character names!

Director: OK, everybody get in a line and tell me your names in the play.

(Only Everybody/Julie gets in line)

Director: I said, EVERYBODY!

Samantha: That IS Everybody!

Director: OK, OK, YOU, come over here. (Points to Samantha and instead, Ashley walks over.)

Director: No I was talking to YOU. (points at Samantha)

Samantha: Me? I'm not You, I'm Nobody.

Director: What? You're right there, so you have to be SOMEBODY!

Samantha: No, she's Somebody! (points to Ashley)

Director: Uh, well don't you know who she is, she's your friend!

Samantha: I know who she is, she's Somebody!

Director: ARRG! (He turns to Julie) Who ARE YOU?

Julie: Which One.

Director: You! I'm talking to You!

Ashley: What?

Director: No, her! (Points to Julie). Who is she!

Julie: Which One!

Director: YOU! YOU!

Ashley: What! What!

Directory: ARRG! Ok, Nobody leaves until I figure this out.

(Samantha leaves, walks off stage).

Directory: What are you doing! Alright everybody just get out of here!

(Julie walks off stage)

Director: (to McKenna) Can YOU just leave!

(Ashley leaves)

Director: Doesn't anybody understand what I'm saying!?

McKenna: Yes, so I guess I'll leave! (Walks off)

Director: Sigh. We'll try this again tomorrow. (walks off)

Director: No it isn't, it's only ONE of you four.

Ashley: You're right, in a way, because I do have two parts. Somebody and You.

Director: Wait, how can you be me, if you don't know anything about me!?

Ashley: I'm You, not Me.

Director: Ok, this is getting me really MAD.

Samantha: I thought I was Mad?

Director: Ok, just LEAVE. We're going to do this tomorrow. Shoo, Shoo!

(Girls all show their shoes to the Director and say:) Here!

Director: Ok, everybody leave I said!

(Only Everybody/Julie goes back stage)

Director: Everyone that's in this play GO HOME!

McKenna: I AM home!

Director: And what is your name, as I asked you before!

McKenna: I DON'T KNOW!

(director leaves in confusion)

Ashley: That was odd (everyone shrugs their shoulders and leaves the stage).
