I dash up the ladder to where Lapis is. I'm panicking.

"L...Lapis? You okay?"

  "Yes, Peridot, everything is perfectly alright. And I would prefer it if you call me Lazuli."  She snaps back.

"Uh... okay, Lazuli...?" I stutter.

"Now get out." 

"Uh... okay. Bye, Lazuli..."

I begin down the ladder sadly. But as soon as I begin to walk away to work on my little robonoids, I hear sobbing upstairs.

I'll try again.

So I go into the little run-down kitchen and I make hot chocolate. I put in marshmallows and whipped cream. Gems don't have to eat, strictly speaking, but food is good, and we do get hungry after getting used to it. I bring it upstairs as fast as I can, and catch Lapis crying.

"Lapis... what's wrong?"

I hand her the hot cocoa and let her lean over and cry on my shoulder. 

She cries for a while. I hold her. She sips the cocoa. And she begins to talk.

"I... It's nothing... I just... I had a dream..."

"Lapis...?"

"I- I had a nightmare. About homeworld... about Jasper... about... about... about you..."

I blush and look down at the last bit. She tells me about the dream, but doesn't mention me anymore in it. She moves a little stream of cocoa over to me. I wave it back to her, and she puts it back in the cup to sip it.

She finally falls asleep again, laying against my shoulder. I like it. She's so cute... wait, what?

I am falling asleep.

I kiss her forehead and let myself drift off.
