CHAPTER FOUR: I normo

ᝒ ᝒ𝕬𝖓𝖈𝖎𝖊𝖓𝖙 𝖍𝖎𝖘𝖙𝖔𝖗𝖞ᝓ ᝓ

"Nathaniel!" Kazimeras calls out, excited.

The superhero turned his head. After entering the school, he immediately heard a familiar voice call his name. He smiled when he saw Kaz and Oliver.

Oliver looked extremely confused between Nate and a blond-haired girl walking down the hall.

"So, Nathaniel," Oliver called out after a few seconds of silence. "You coming to the cardinal?"

Nate shrugged. "Haven't decided."

"No. No. You have to come!" Kaz quickly says. "Uh...there be popcorn! And Cotten candy, you love them!"

Nate tilted his head. "Yeah, I do...okay, you both are going, right?"

"Yeah."
"Of course."

"All right. I'll go."

"Come on, stupid bread!" Skylar Storm yells as the three walk into the training room. "Toast! Toast!"

Nathaniel thought about burning the bread in her hands to get her to stop talking. He had got that; she had recently had her powers taken away, but sometimes, she did things that, if Nathaniel himself wasn't a superhero or knew of them, he would believe she needed to go to the mental institution.

"Hey, Skyler, is there still no heat vision?" Oliver questioned.

"No. I'm so sick of being in this hospital. I'm bouncing off the wall here! Literally. I tried using my powers to run through them, but I just kept bouncing off." The girl explained.

Nathaniel laughed at the image, hitting his chest to force a cough when he revived the three looks. Thank god Skylar didn't have any of her powers, he would be dead.

"Hey, why didn't you hang out with us?" Kaz questioned the girl, stepping in front of Oliver.  "There is this carnival at our school. You should come."

"I don't know. I've never spent any time in the normal world. I fly in from my planet, save humanity, and fly out. At most, I'll stop for a soft pretzel."

"You'll be able to have a lot of soft pretzels while you're on earth for the unforeseen future," Nate speaks as if he didn't think of the girl's reaction to his words.

When, once again, all three turned to him, a look of disbelief on their faces.

"What? She loves pretzels! She doesn't have to fly in from another planet to get them. She needs to leave Mighty Med."

"Nathaniel," Oliver turned, eyes practically popping out of his head with the stern look.

"I won't fit in at your school," Skyler says. "Just like I don't fit in in the superhero world anymore." She went to walk off.

"Oh, come on, it's just what you need..." Kaz followed after her. Which caused for Nate to roll his eyes. "For you and you best interests. Having nothing to do with me or...or my best interests. At all!" He laughed.

"I could use a break from Mighty Med," Skyler says.

"Kaz, can I talk to you in private?" Oliver says with a fake smile.

Skylar walked away, picking up a piece of toast, she momentarily stared at it. Before, in frustration, glared at it. "You will not defeat me!"  She tossed the bread.

"Hey!" Nathaniel speaks, when he need almost hit him. Yes, it was just bread, it wouldn't hurt. But, it was still rude.

"Skylar, you are coming with us," Kaz walked back over to her.

"Good, because any place is better than this," Skylar makes a face. "Except the lava pits of Kelnar. The lines there are so long."

"But, you'll need an alter ego so no one knows you're the real Skylar Storm," Kaz speaks.

"I'll just use the most popular girl's name from my planet-"

"Oh no," Nathaniel sighed.

"Aiyeee-eeki-eeki-waa," Skylar says.

"Or you could just use...Connie Valentine," Kaz says.

"Okay. But it doesn't roll off the tongue like aiyee-"

"We get it!" Nathaniel cut her off, he sighed as he dragged a hand down his face.

So, at the carnival, to which Kaz dragged Nathaniel to, the four were spending the time together. The farthest they went, was one going to one of the games set up, and the others at the food table.

"I'm so nervous," Skyler speaks. "I really want to fit in as a normo. I'm so self-conscious. How should I stand?"

"Sky, you're over thinking it. It's extremely easy. I mean, you being this nervous has got you have way there." Nathaniel smiled.

"Oh, and what, superheroes don't get nervous?" Oliver asked. "You don't get nervous?"

"I was nervous when I was blasted off a two thousand foot building, I couldn't fly yet." Nathaniel lowly says.

"Oh my god," Oliver face palmed

"Hey, I remember that comic," Kaz says. "Hey Tecton came, flew in and caught you!"

"Shut up!" Nathaniel smacked Kaz.

"Skyler-Connie," Oliver corrected. "just do whatever feels comfortable."

"Okay," Skyler leaned back, bending backwards and placing her hands onto the floor, with her feet still planted down.

"Except that. Please don't do that," Oliver speaks.

Skyler flips to get back up.

"Shoot," Oliver sighs, looking to his watch. "I have to work the ring toss booth with Gus for the next hour. While I'm gone, stay with Skyler and make sheet she feels comfortable."

"Relax. I'm not gonna let Skylar out of my sight," Kaz replied, reaching an arm out and wrapping his arm around the girl's shoulders.

"Yeah, that's not Skylar," Oliver says. Which leads to Kaz to flinch away, letting it a small yell.

"Look, of anything, you- do you know sign language? You could pretend to be mute," Nathaniel tells her.

"Oh, uh, hey," Kaz quickly sides up next to Skylar. "Before we start socializing, there are some Norma customs you should learn. You know, so you don't stick out."

"Okay. Like what?"

"I'm gonna go get cotton candy," Nathaniel says as he heads towards the candy machine. He made a gesture to the three people standing in the way. "Excuse me."

Two of them looked at him as if he had asked the most absurd thing on the world.

His head turned when hearing a loud sound, only the seeing that Oliver, oddly enough, was trapped in a cage. On the stage. Above the cage was a sign, that read; 'cabinet of danger'.

Nathaniel sighed, shaking head his.

"What are you doing?" Nathaniel asked Skylar, who was trying to force feed an apple slice to anyone passing by.

Skylar shoved the apple slice to Nathaniel, who put his hand on her wrist and bright the fruit down. "No. No thanks. I'm allergic to apples." He lied. "Why are you trying to feed people apples?"

"Kaz said it's what friends do! I'm making friends," Skylar smiled.

"Oh, did he?" Nathaniel asked, smiling back. I'm gonna kill him.

"So..." Skylar walked up to Kaz and Stephanie. "I see you guys are becoming friends." She smiled as she stepped in between the two. She crossed her arms as her looked down at the dessert. "What is that?"

"Is lava cake," Stephanie answered, smiling proudly as she held it out.

"Kaz, don't eat it!" Skylar slapped the dessert from the blond's hands.

"Wait!" Nathaniel quickly approached the two, the cotton candy still in his hand.

"What is wrong with you?" Stephanie asked is disbelief.

"Me?! You just tried to feed him lava! Do you know what that could do to a person's insides? I do! I've seen it happen before."

"Kaz what did you do?" Nate asked, pulling him a step back.

"I just-Skyler overreacted."

"It's just cake. What, are you from another planet?" Stephanie asked.

Kaz laughed. "Another planet?! Ha! That's a good one." Kaz laughed.

"No.' It's just, Kaz is allergic to what's in Lava cakes." Nathaniel lies.

"You don't even know what I used to make the cake," Stephanie crossed her arms.

"Better safe than sorry!"

"I'm outta here," Stephanie walked off.

"I didn't know. I was just trying to help," Skylar tells Kaz.

"Stephanie, wait!" Kaz chased after the blond-haired girl.

Nathaniel sighed. "Look, Skylar, that just how Stephanie is. Kaz, he's being a jerk. Just, stay away from the both of them for the night." He holds up the stick of cotton candy.

She smiled, as she accepted the candy. Nathaniel turned around. "I'll talk to Kaz-" he started and when he turned Skyler was gone. And speaking to the future telling machine.

"Well, at least she's distracted for a little."

Famous last words. Because next thing Nathan knows, Skyler is attacking is football team, who had been throwing water balloons at the teacher. Skylar had knocked down the team members.

"Wait! Damn it!" Nathan quickly moved to Skyler's side.

"W-w-what did I miss?" Kaz asked.

"I saved him. Why is everyone so upset?" Skyler asked

"Look at the sign," Stephanie speaks. "Douse Princial Krauss. They're just raising money for the football team."

The students laugh.

"Okay! Enough!" Nathaniel yells as Skyler runs off.

"She's so odd," Stephanie says.

"Shut up." Nathan tells the girl, anger coursing through him.

"Okay!" Kaz suddenly yelled, as he ran forward, catching Nathaniel by the front of his shirt, he pushed the other back. "He and Connie are cousins," Kaz laughs nervously. "He's really over protective."

They two were by the gym doors now. Before Kaz pushed him into the hallway, pulling Nate towards the bathrooms.

"What are you doing?" Nathaniel question.

Kaz had began to knock on the stalls, pushing open the doors. "What am I doing? What are you doing?" Kaz says back, gesturing his hands wildly. "You don't feel that?"

Nathaniel's face pulled into confusion. Then followed Kaz's gaze, seeing at the end of his hands, at his fingertips, fire danced along. And following, was ice. It was odd, his fire powers immediately being distinguished by his ice powers.

"You don't have control of your powers?" Kaz asked.

"Not since my parents died."

Kaz has momentarily freaked out. And then freaked out again when Nathaniel told him to grab his phone from his jacket pocket, and call Tecton.

Kaz freaked out again when he once again when he was able to speak to one of his favorite superheroes. Tecton had flew in through the window, picking up Nathaniel and flying out.
