Chapter 20: Battle Plans

I sat in the classroom with the rest of the brotherhood. Vlad, Hendrix, Alfred and Marcus sat around me at the front. General Mithras stood behind his desk, hands flat studying a map.

"Alright you maggoty toddlers, time to strap the boots up and polish those weapons. We are getting ready for war." Mithras barked. There was a loud clash of fists on armor and  thumbs of fists on the table tops.

"As you know the Giants have been stirring, and The Earth mother is on the move. The Roman and Greek gods are struggling."

"Why's that sir?" Someone called out.

"Because, for eons the Greeks and Romans have been kept separated- now they are close to war. As their demi god children gear up for a war, Gaea is plotting her move to take out the gods from their roots-"

"In Greece?"

"Yes. Now shut up! If you know the answers, don't ask the questions!"

"Sorry sir."

"You are forgiven." Mithras grumbled. "Anyways. Yes. The two camps in the United states are gearing up for war. It is the idiot Roman, the Augur who is  pushing for war. From our newest member, she has seen visions of a war ship flying across the ocean as fast as they can to stop the giants and Gaea. She has also seen visions of the camps. SO the question is. What are we going to do about it? We are a group of trained warriors, we do not sit back and let the world implode on itself. If Greece falls Rome falls. And if Rome falls...we do to. We are part of the Roman world."

There was a lot of thumps of fists and sword hilts. And shouting.

"HOORAAW!" Hendrix yelled.

"For Rome!" Marcus screamed.

Mithras raised his hand. The battle cries settled.

"Here's what were going to do. We can not directly interfere, but we will assist where we can."

"Sir, how come you aren't effected by the split forms like the others?" Vlad asked, frowning at the General god.

"From the beginning I've accepted I am a Persian Greco-Roman god. I accept from all backgrounds. I don't discriminate. You have what it takes, you are accepted. I don't care what your fucken back ground is. My wife is a flower from Germany. I have accept who I am, and you my men, are from all over and that in itself has healed the rift for me."

"Sir, that's the nicest thing you've ever said to us." Marcus grinned.

"And that's the last time. Now DROP DOWN AND GIVE ME TWENTY!" He barked, "Except you," He pointed at me, "Come here flower blossom, show me on the map what you saw." The men all grumbled and rolled their eyes. "I HEAR A LOT OF GRUMBLING!" He yelled.

I chuckled, and got up and came over to the map.

Rubbing my forehead I did my best to describe what I had seen in my dreams and visions. I was staring hard at the map when I felt the heat in the room rise. The air in front of me rippled and then I wasn't in the room anymore. I was seeing something across the world. I was seeing the camp for Roman demigods there was a big group of them sitting around a table.

Jason was explaining how they arrived at Camp Half-Blood without his memory, and how he'd gone on a quest with Piper and Leo to rescue the goddess Hera. (even in the Sight Vision I growled in annoyance) from imprisonment at the Wolf House in northern California.

"Impossible!" Octavian broke in. "That's our most sacred place. If the giants had imprisoned a goddess there-"

I wish I could swing at him, he sits there all calm and innocent while he ha Raph chained up in some dark basement. I looked at the other Romans, and wondered if they knew what he was up to. My anger boiled to the surface.

"They would've destroyed her," Piper said. "And blamed it on the Greeks, and started a war between the camps. Now, be quiet and let Jason finish."

Octavian opened his mouth, but no sound came out. I smirked, Piper had some pretty powerful charmspeak.

"So," Jason continued, "that's how we found out about the earth goddess Gaea. She's still half asleep, but she's the one freeing the monsters from Tartarus and raising the giants. Porphyrion, the big leader dude we fought at the Wolf House: he said he was retreating to the ancient lands- Greece itself. He plans on awakening Gaea and destroying the gods by...what did he call it? Pulling up their roots."

Percy nodded thoughtfully. "Gaea's been busy over here, too. We had our own encounter with Queen Dirt Face."

Percy recounted his side of the story. He talked about waking up at the Wolf House with no memories except for two names- Annabeth and Nora. Percy told them how he'd traveled to Alaska with Frank and Hazel—how they'd defeated the giant Alcyoneus, freed the death god Thanatos, and returned with the lost golden eagle standard of the Roman camp to repel an attack by the giants' army.

When Percy had finished, Jason whistled appreciatively. "No wonder they made you praetor."

Octavian snorted. "Which means we now have three praetors! The rules clearly state we can only have two!"

"On the bright side," Percy said, "both Jason and I outrank you, Octavian. So we can both tell you to shut up."

Octavian turned as purple as a Roman T-shirt. Jason gave Percy a fist bump.

Even Reyna managed a smile, though her eyes were stormy.

"Uhh Percy..." Annabeth said hesitantly. He looked over at her, the smile on his face slipped.

"We haven't seen Nora since Winter Solstice. She helped extract Jason, Leo and Piper...and then she disappeared- our Hecate campers kept her soul from disintegrating from her body, she woke up for like half a day and then she just disappeared."

"What do you mean my sister just disappeared?" Percy hissed, he narrowed his eyes and leaned forward.

"She went to sleep in the cabin with her brothers and Raph, when they woke up she was gone. Raph went out of his mind looking for her, and then about 3 weeks ago he disappeared too. I would get regular IM's from him. Clarisse was out with him for a while, and then she showed back up at camp and said he wanted to keep going, he was following a lead, and then he stopped checking in. They are both missing now."

The look of pure rage was very visible on his face. I looked at Octavian and he had the perfect poker face, he looked just as shocked as the Romans around the table.

"She diapered the night we rescued Hera..." Leo said quietly. "Apparently."

Percy slammed his hands on the table and yelled, causing a few Romans to look over nervously.

The scene changed, I was aware my knees hitting the floor, and I was shaking, but I couldn't control it. The Visions were coming strong, in wile heat waves, It was like watching  a movie in front of me. I was aware I was smoking. The guys in the room were all watching in fear and awe. I was aware of Mithras squatting down in front of me. He didn't try anything to stop the visions. He stayed patient, a hand on my elbow to help steady me. The Vision consumed me again.

There was an angry crowd, kids in purple t shirts and togas over their jeans were angry and yelling. I saw Annabeth and a girl with dark hair in a braid and purple cape, she was shoving her way through the crowd. I saw Percy standing in a fountain blasting angry kids with water.  The big Greek war ship let another round of explosions down at the camp. Legionnaires in the field scattered as one of their catapults was blasted to splinters.

"You see?" Octavian screamed. "Romans, kill the invaders!" He was scrambling down the rope ladder as best he could. (All I could think, was please gods, let him fall and break his neck!)

Annabeth growled in frustration. The crew from Camp Half-Blood was outnumbered a hundred to one, they were going to be killed by angry mop of Romans.

"We have to leave," Annabeth told Percy. "Now."

He nodded grimly. "Hazel, Frank, you've got to make a choice. Are you coming?"

Hazel looked terrified, but she donned her cavalry helmet. "Of course we are. But you'll never make it to the ship unless we buy you some time."

"How?" Annabeth asked.

Hazel whistled. Instantly a blur of beige shot across the forum. A majestic horse materialized next to the fountain. He reared, whinnying and scattering the mob. Hazel climbed on his back like she'd been born to ride. Strapped to the horse's saddle was a Roman cavalry sword.

Hazel unsheathed her golden blade. "Send me an Iris-message when you're safely away, and we'll rendezvous," she said. "Arion, ride!"

The horse zipped through the crowd with incredible speed, pushing back Romans and causing mass panic. From halfway across the forum, she heard Jason shouting.

"Romans!" he cried. "Please!"

He and Piper were being pelted with plates and stones. Jason tried to shield Piper, but a brick caught him above the eye. He crumpled, and the crowd surged forward.

"Get back!" Piper screamed. Her charmspeak rolled over the mob, making them hesitate, but The effect wouldn't last. Percy and she couldn't possibly reach them in time to help.

"Frank," Percy said, "it's up to you. Can you help them?"

How Frank could do that all by himself, but he swallowed nervously. "Oh, gods," he murmured. "Okay, sure. Just get up the ropes. Now."

Percy and Annabeth lunged for the ladder. Octavian was still clinging to the bottom, but Percy yanked him off and threw him into the mob. (Please gods, please let him die by angry stampeding mobs of romans. I was disappointed when he popped up and pointed a finger at Percy, "TRAITOR!" He screamed) They began to climb as armed legionnaires flooded into the forum. Arrows whistled past Annabeth's head. An explosion almost knocked her off the ladder. Halfway up, there was a roar below and glanced down.

Romans screamed and scattered as a full-sized dragon charged through the forum—a beast even scarier than the bronze dragon figurehead on the war ship. It had rough gray skin like a Komodo lizard's and leathery bat wings. Arrows and rocks bounced harmlessly off its hide as it lumbered toward Piper and Jason, grabbed them with its front claws, and vaulted into the air.

"Is that... ?" Annabeth started but failed in her words.

"Frank," Percy confirmed, a few feet above her. "He has a few special talents."

"Understatement," Annabeth muttered.

"Keep climbing!"

Without the dragon and Hazel's horse to distract the archers, they never would have made it up the ladder; but finally they climbed past a row of broken aerial oars and onto the deck. The rigging was on fire. The foresail was ripped down the middle, and the ship listed badly to starboard. Leo stood amidships, calmly reloading the ballista.

"Leo!" Annabeth screamed. "What are you doing?"

"Destroy them..." He faced Annabeth. His eyes were glazed. His movements were like a robot's. "Destroy them all."

He turned back to the ballista, but Percy tackled him. Leo's head hit the deck hard, and his eyes rolled up so that only the whites showed. The gray dragon soared into view. It circled the ship once and landed at the bow, depositing Jason and Piper, who both collapsed.

"Go!" Percy yelled. "Get us out of here!"

Annabeth ran for the helm. She glancing over the rail and saw armed legionnaires closing ranks in the forum, preparing flaming arrows. Hazel spurred Arion, and they raced out of the city with a mob chasing after them. More catapults were being wheeled into range. All along the Pomerian Line, the statues of Terminus were glowing purple, as if building up energy for some kind of attack.

Annabeth looked over the controls. She grabbed the aviation throttle and yanked it straight back. The ship groaned. The bow tilted up at a horrifying angle. The mooring lines snapped, and the war ship shot into the clouds.

As the scene shifted, I vaguely saw the classroom with all the warriors standing around, all looking at me, mouths wide open, staring at me. There was nothing I could do at the moment, I was stuck in the Sight Vision.

A woman stood on a beach, A black-and-chrome motorcycle was parked nearby, but each of the wheels had a big pie slice removed from the spokes and rim, so that they resembled Pac-Men. No way was the bike drivable in that condition.

The woman had curly black hair and a bony frame. She wore black leather biker's pants, tall leather boots, and a bloodred leather jacket—sort of a Michael Jackson joins the Hell's Angels look. Around her feet, the ground was littered with what looked like broken shells. She was hunched over, pulling new ones out of a sack and cracking them open. The woman I realized was a goddess, who she was I wasn't sure, but she was in he middle of a conversation with Leo and the other girl I recognized earlier.

"Very few gods will be able to help you on the quest. Most are already incapacitated, and their confusion will only grow worse. One thing might bring unity to Olympus again- an old wrong finally avenged. Ah, that would be sweet indeed, the scales finally balanced! But it will not happen unless you accept my help."

"I suppose you won't tell us what you're talking about," Hazel muttered. "Or why my brother Nico has only six days to live. Or why Rome is going to be destroyed."

The goddess chuckled. She rose and slung her sack of cookies over her shoulder. "Oh, it's all tied together, Hazel Levesque. As for my offer, Leo Valdez, give it some thought. You're a good child. A hard worker. We could do business. But I have detained you too long. You should visit the reflecting pool before the light fades. My poor cursed boy gets quite...agitated when the darkness comes."

I fell forwards, I dropped my head, painting. I stayed on my hands and knees breathing hard.

"I was right." I gasped. "I was right about everything!"

"Nora." Mithras's voice was firm, "what did you see?"

"Hera, the cow kidnapped Jason and Percy whipped their memory and swapped out leaders, trying to get us to trust each other. She took me because she views me as a threat to it all, despite me being both Greek and Roman. Dumped me here trying to get me out of the way. And because of that she put Raph in harm's way, getting him captured by Octavian. And now... The seven demigods are on their way to Greece."

"Then we must hurry." Mithras said with a nod. He helped me up. A Nectar Aid juice box was tossed. It tasted like mint chocolate ice cream. "We have a few threats we need to handle."

Mithras spent the next while handing out assignments and missions. Then he turned to Marcus.

"Solider."

Marcus stood at attention.

"I have a mission for you. I need you to go undercover into this...camp half blood. Your mission, son, is to disguise yourself as a son of Ares, see what you can find out. Keep an eye on the camp. Keep them from harm until we can come with reinforcements. We won't let this Roman scarecrow physcho from destroying the Greek camp."

Marcus saluted, "Yes Sir."

I stood with my mouth dropping open. I felt a sudden rise of emotion in my chest. My throat felt thick and sticky.

"If you can gleen any information to the wear abouts of this young Sword master..."

"Absolutely, sir." Marcus nodded his head again.

"Keep me informed as best you can." Mithras ordered.

"Yes sir."

I flung myself at Mithras and hugged him tight. I felt him stiffen for a moment and then he awkwardly patted my head.

"I would never leave a home of my warriors unprotected. You are part of the brotherhood of warriors, and my godsdaughter. I will not let harm befall you, my little flower blossom."

"Thank you." I whispered.

"Now. You have your own path, and we must prepare you." Mithras pulled away, keeping his hands on my shoulders. There was a fire in his eyes, it reflected through his sunglasses.

"Come."

I followed him from the room.
