Day 3
Alright let's take a look at the trends:
Civil Rights: 85 "Excessive" Up +2 Points again. I think this oddly stems from the fact that the Citizens of Ancapanda can go walk around naked if they so choose. Hooray for freedom!
Economy: 72 "Strong" So this is actually down -3 points from the last two days. Nothing major. Oddly, I think the simulator judged that people having the ability to sell their organs hurt the economy. I question the logic. It would create a whole new field of production, with doctors and businesses specializing in organ storage, and keeping organ recipients alive for fractions of the cost so they can continue to contribute value in the economy. Oh well, its only 3 points, and my free market is going to "recover." (not that it was ever sick, like GottaReadEmAll).
Political Freedoms: 52 "Average" No change here. I guess my decisions yesterday had no effect.
Here are today's issues:
1. Where's the Love Gone? An issue was raised about the rising divorce rate in Ancapanda. I had three options: 1. Make divorce illegal. 2. Force married couples to complement each other every day. Or 3. Get rid of the laws against Homosexual Marriage. Easy choice, option #3. I didn't even know Ancapanda had such laws against it, and I'm happy to get rid of any law whenever possible. It's a win, win, win. #Lovewins. I predict this will further raise the civil rights trend in Ancapanda. Decision: Strike down laws against Homosexual Marriage as an extension of Freedom of Speech and Association.
2. Book Publishing Workers Go On Strike. So apparently, people who work in the book publishing industry want more money. That's fine. I have 2 options: 1. Mandate their Employers raise the wages of the publishers OR 2. Get rid of minimum wages and let the market decide, and allow employers to hire/fire whoever they choose. This is an easy choice. Option #2 it is. What if I suddenly decided I wanted a raise, would I hold a gun to my employer's head and force him to give it to me? No. That's called stealing, and using the government as a hit-man to force your boss to give you a raise is wrong. Besides PRODUCTION (more stuff) drives the economy and standard of living, not higher wages. The more goods there are in a society, the cheaper they become for everybody, especially the poor. This decision should actually increase civil rights and the economy. However, I fear the simulator may reduce the civil right's line because "it's not fair for the workers." Well you know what? It is fair. What's not fair for the employer is the other way. Violence and robbery isn't the answer. Decision: Strike down minimum wage laws and allow employers to hire/fire at will as an extension of Property Rights and Freedom of Voluntary Association.
That's it for today.
