Chapter 6
Thirst
Anastasia lurked in a tree as she stared at a rogue human who had lost his way from the main trail. Her wide eyes stayed tight on his body, watching as he checked his trail map. The human was confused as he continued to examine his surroundings. Anastasia licked her lips and jumped a branch down, hoping to get a better view of her prey. She didn't expect to find a human out so deep in the woods, but she had quickly caught his scent and stalked him out. Although she struggled to ignore his savory scent, she did manage to resist him so far. Ana just watched him from afar, internally waiting for someone to come and take her away. Emmett had been babysitting her, but he got distracted by a grizzly bear. Ana had let him take on the huge beast, but in the middle of Emmett and the bear's rumble, Anastasia had caught the heavenly scent.
She continued to watch the man carefully with dark eyes, her mouth watering with venom and her throat aching with a sudden thirst. She crouched down, ready to pounce on the man and drink him dry, but she was yanked back. She hissed loudly at her capturer, only to find Jasper's concerned statue. Anastasia instantly grew embarrassed and cowered her body into submission. Her fangs shortened down and she looked down to her bare feet in shame.
Jasper didn't say a word as he lifted her up into his arms, speeding her away from the spared human. They arrived at the empty Cullen house and Anastasia leaped out of her mate's grasp, not daring to look back at him.
"Anastasia," Jasper called out softly but she didn't respond. She threw herself glumly on the couch and buried her face into a throw pillow.
"I almost killed him," her muffled voice strained with disappointment. Jasper rubbed her back in attempts to soothe her but nothing availed. He resorted to using his powers to calm Anastasia's irritation, but Jasper noticed it wasn't working. While Ana continued to curse into the pillow, Jasper tried again to use his powers. Somehow, Anastasia's demeanor didn't waver a bit and her mate gave up. He would have to consult Carlisle when he returned from the hospital.
After his attempts to calm her, and utterly failing, he decided to brighten her up the old fashion way; by using his words.
"You're too hard on yourself, Ana. I lose control sometimes too."
"But you have beautiful honey eyes! Mine are still bloody red and they just don't want to change," Anastasia snapped, throwing the pillow to the side. The pillow broke Esme's favorite vase and Jasper winced. Ana paid no attention as she pulled at her hair, still extremely frustrated and flushed.
"Your eyes will soon change, too," Jasper said, again trying to ease her. Anastasia growled.
"I'm going to look like a fucking nightmare forever." She threw herself on the couch, face down and refused to look up. Jasper stayed at her side, even after the rest of his siblings had returned. Ana didn't look up when Esme and Carlisle arrived either, Esme not really caring about the vase instead looking very concerned for Anastasia's behavior.
"Had she been there all day?" Bella whispered as she peered down to Anastasia. Jasper nodded, not taking his eyes off of his mate. Edward suddenly stood up with a small grimace.
"Headache," he simply said before rushing outside with Bella following.
"I'll take her upstairs," Jasper muttered and lifted Anastasia into his arms. She made no attempts to move and was perfectly still as Jasper carried her up to his room. Once inside, he placed a limp Anastasia onto the bed and sighed.
"Ana, it's really no big deal."
"Edward was trying to read my mind. I could feel him invading my thoughts," she mumbled.
"And?"
"I started thinking of infected toenails to get him to knock it off."
Jasper twitched and felt pity for his brother. Poor bastard won't dare to look into her head for a while.
"Very cynical of you, Anastasia."
~
Carlisle sighed as he checked Anastasia's latest test results. His pen clicked continuously as he grew a bit impatient. Jasper had explained to him that Ana wasn't swayed when he tried to manipulate her emotions. He never struggled with any of his other siblings, so Jasper wasn't quite sure why his powers didn't affect his mate. And while Carlisle was an excellent doctor, he couldn't come up with a certain answer to Jasper's predicament.
"It may have been the overwhelming state of her emotions that couldn't get you to concentrate. I don't think its much of a problem but I will keep track of her emotions while she's here," Carlisle said as he swiveled on his chair. He glanced up at Jasper.
"Does Anastasia have any secret powers she hasn't mentioned?" He asked. Jasper frowned.
"Not that I can recall," he responded. Carlisle nodded slowly before handing Jasper a clipboard. On it was endless information on Anastasia's past.
"When Ana left the Volturi, Aro was kind enough to send us all the information he has collected on her. He has them for every one of his followers. I believe you should look at it."
Jasper nodded and watched as Carlisle left the room. He was left to his thoughts. He took a seat on the couch and began to slim through the many pages.
Anastasia Jones
Born: June 19th, 1946
Age Turned: 17
Location: Washington, D.C.
Physical Traits (before turned): dark red hair, green eyes, 5"5
Education: Bancroft Elementary School
Work: Barista at a local pub
"What are you reading?"
Jasper threw the papers away when he heard Anastasia's voice behind him. He stood up suddenly to retrieve them but Anastasia beat him to it. Her eyebrows scrunched as she read through the papers.
"This is about me..."
"Carlisle said Aro sent it to him when you stayed with us. He offered it to me. I should've said no-" Jasper's ramble was cut off.
"It's okay, Jasper. I'm not angry. I wish you would've asked me, but my past isn't that bad. I wasn't a troublesome kid," she said and sat next to him closely, clipboard in hand.
"I guess the only thing I'm embarrassed about is my education," she continued and Jasper looked over it again.
"You didn't go to University?"
"My parents couldn't afford it. I didn't even make it past the 5th year. After I finished grade school, I was sent to work in a factory near my home. We need the money," Anastasia admitted. Jasper pulled her into a side hug.
"Carlisle has connections all around the world. If you wish, you could go back to school," he whispered. Anastasia hummed but shook her head.
"As wonderful as that sounds, I was privately tutored in Italy. Aro hired a governess and although I didn't receive an official diploma from one of those fancy schools, I am at least not illiterate," she said. She remembered the many lessons she had to sit through the endless lectures and ramblings of the governess. Anastasia liked her tutor, but she learned quickly not to get attached when Aro killed her after she got suspicious of mysterious activity that went on around the Volterra castle.
"You could get your bachelor's or masters. Carlisle wouldn't mind," Jasper confirmed. Ana smiled. She liked her mate trying to please her and support her.
"I'll consider it."
~
Bella showed Anastasia another pamphlet displaying the University of Washington. She smiled slightly and pushed it closer to the redhead.
"I will burn it," Ana threatened before pushing it away.
"This is the university I wanted to attend, back before Reneesme was born," Bella admitted, "I was thinking about it... I'll join you if you end up going," Bella continued. It did make Anastasia feel a little better, thinking she could go to school and be normal. But the thought of being around humans for the entire day snuck into her head and her smile diminished.
"I can't go anywhere if I can't control my thirst around humans. Uni's out of the question," Anastasia mumbled. Bella sighed in annoyance and grabbed her friend's hand.
"Where are we going?"
"To practice."
"... Doing what?"
~
Bella and Anastasia somehow ended up in Quileute territory. Bella dragged Ana along with her and Reneesme bounced at their side. Anastasia could see a slight age difference in the child. She was astonished by the rapid growth the child displayed.
Her eyebrows scrunched as they stepped out of the woods and into a clearing, where a little house was tucked between the trees. The home was clearly worn down but it was cozy.
As they closed in, Reneesme ran lightning fast to the door and rapidly knocked. In seconds, Jacob answered the door and picked Reneesme up with a spin. The child giggled and wrapped her arms around Jacob.
"How's my favorite girl," Jacob mused to her. He completely ignored Bella and Anastasia, but the mother didn't seem to care. She entered the house and greeted the women in the kitchen with a hug. Anastasia carefully walked in. The women noticed the new vampire and approached her with a warm smile.
"Oh, you must be Anastasia! Sammy told me about the newest Cullen, you're even more beautiful than the boys said! I'm Emily!" She exclaimed and tightly hugged Ana. The vampire was stiffly confused but nonetheless accepted the hug.
"It's nice to meet you, Emily," she said. Emily beamed at her before letting her go and yanking Reneesme off of Jacob.
"You made it here right on time, I just finished cooking for the boys. Eat, Nessie, before the savages devour it," Emily said and carried little Reneesme to the table. Ana glanced over the table-filled food and tilted her head. She didn't remember how any of the food tasted like, but it all looked pleasing.
"I wish I could eat food," she mumbled. She remembered back in Volterra, Demetri, Alec, and Felix had a bet that whoever caught the least humans in a night had to eat a whole meal of human food. Anastasia had been a vampire for about a month when that occurred, and didn't understand what the big deal about human food was. But she quickly understood when she witnessed Alec throwing everything up only an hour later. Anastasia didn't dare touch human food.
After Reneesme had served herself food, Emily yelled out for the rest of the boys to join her. Soon, the living room was filled with many boys, their chatter diminishing when they saw Anastasia.
The vampire choked back a gag as the smell of wet dog hit her hard. She fought through the unpleasant smell before smiling brightly at Sam Uley.
"Pleasure to see you again, Master Uley, you have a lovely home and a wonderful wife," Anastasia said. Sam smiled proudly before taking a seat next to some of his tribe members.
"What can we help you with today? You two aren't exactly usual faces we see around here," Jared Cameron said and Bella featured towards Anastasia.
"Ana needs help controlling her thirst. I figured with your overwhelming... scent, it should help her when out in public," Bella explained slowly. Several of the shapeshifters grumbled at the mention of their scent but Jacob agreed.
"I think it's a good idea. Less trouble for everyone if she can control her demonic side," he said with a smirk. Bella smiled for she knew that was the best the wolves could offer.
"Great. When do we get started?"

Hello, rare people who read this book.
I'm Perri, (although some know me a little better to know that is not my true identity) and I am very thankful for those who read, vote, and comment on this book.
If you know me on a profile base wise, you'll know that I was a HUGE ouat fan and have written about Peter Pan a lot. So writing about Twilight is either a huge step up or step down for me, I haven't decided yet.
But it really means a lot to me that people vote and comment on here, because I know it's not my typical works.
Thank you again so much.
Cheers 🌹
P.s sorry, I don't update too often.
