Chapter 5

Anastasia & the Cullen's

Anastasia missed the Volturi.

She didn't think she would ever think those words, but she did. The Volturi was all she had known for the longest time. To have that all taken away was new. And though she loved being around the Cullen's, she also missed her old habits.

Back in Volterra, she was able to simply spend her entire time browsing through the enormous variety of books in the library with no one bothering her. Needless to say, she was always on her own. But in Forks, because she was surrounded by the unknown, she always had someone with her. Even in Volterra, the only time she was ever summoned to the Volturi crowd was for meals.

Anastasia missed her usual diet as well. Jasper and Alice informed her of their strange diet that consisted of animal blood instead of human blood. It was odd at first, and although it did ease the burning ache in her throat, she didn't think it was enough. Her eyes weren't close to changing to the beautiful honey color that Jasper's were, hers were still bloodshot red. She grew frustrated with herself every time she lost control, which occurred more often than she wanted to admit.

Ana had sought out random humans and killed them mercilessly. It happened five times out of a week, and she was disappointed. She felt she was letting Jasper down and it made her heart clench.

One thing she didn't miss from Italy was the enslavement of the castle walls. She was always forced to be inside. Aro rarely let her out of the palace, especially not on her own in case she decided to run away.

But in Forks, Anastasia constantly ran through the dark vast woods that surrounded the Cullen household. Although someone was always with her in case she lost control, she knew once she was able to resist human blood, she would be able to seek her own independence in the woods.

Sadly, Washington wasn't known for its sunny days. Anastasia still missed the sun and had yet to see her own skin twinkle in the light. The Cullen's had warned her about the sun; if a human were to see her, they would be forced to move away, something that did not sound jolly to anyone.

But she appreciated Carlisle for granting her more freedom than Aro ever had.

One night while Anastasia and Jasper laid side by side on the sandy beach, simply basking in each other's presence, all she could think of was how she continued to fail at controlling her thirst. She twitched around until Jasper looked at her. The fresh moonlight drenched her in its light, and Jasper sore she was an angel. His own personal angel that was just for him and him alone. But at the moment, his angel looked troubled and pained. He grew worried as he watched her. Breaking the silence, he gingerly took her hand and gave a soft squeeze.

"Anastasia, are you alright?" He whispered. Ana bolted up quickly. She refused to meet Jasper's gaze. Jasper whined before nudging her arm.

"Ana... Please look at me."

"Doesn't the moon look lovely tonight?" Ana mumbled as she tried to change the subject quickly. Jasper gave a soft chuckle before nodding slowly.

"Yes it is, but I am more interested in what my beautiful mate is so worried about..." He trailed off. Ana took a quick glance at him before sucking in a breath.

"Are you disappointed in me?" She finally asked.

Jasper was taken back by her sudden question. He scrunched his eyes and slowly sat up as well.

"I don't understand."

"This entire week I have lost control more times than I can count. I am a hazard to you and your family, and they are trying so hard to help me. And all I am doing is failing at every turn!" She grumped. The desperation heard in her usual sweet voice was evident and Jasper felt himself break. He slowly reached over and let her sink into his arms.

"I could never be disappointed in you, Anastasia."

Anastasia really only knew Alice, Edward, and Jasper in the Cullen family. Everyone else she just knew by face, not by name. But when the other vampires left back to their homes, Anastasia was left to the Cullen's. She slowly got to know each and everyone.

Emmet was the bear-like man who had a childish personality and a wonderful lust for adventure. He could always be found in the woods somewhere, either hunting bears or challenging Bella to a round of arm wrestling. Although his brutality was something he liked to throw around, he had a gently heart, and knew when to stop his arrogance. He was also one of the first of the Cullen's to fully treat her as if she hadn't just come from a cynical coven. He was kind to her, and tried to make as many jokes as possible to make her laugh, something nobody had ever done before.

Emmet's mate was possibly the most beautiful being Anastasia had ever seen, and Rosalie knew her looks were something that couldn't be compared to any other. Rosalie was the only one who strayed clear of Ana, only staring at her from afar. Rosalie wasn't very trusting towards the ex-Volturi member and insisted she go back to her own kind. Although Anastasia knew Rosalie had every right to doubt where her loyalties laid, she hoped Rose would soon trust her. All Ana knew of the gorgeous blonde was that she enjoyed fixing cars and spending time with her niece.

Her favorite one was definitely Esme Cullen. The small, kind vampire had more heart than anyone Anastasia had ever met. Besides Emmet, Esme didn't hesitate to show Ana motherly love. Ana wasn't sure what it was at first, and she was very confused when Esme fussed over her, but eventually, she came to love it. Although Anastasia was a vampire, Esme insisted the new Cullen be pampered to no end.
Esme buried her in various blankets, insisted she change out of her old Volturi robes, and brushed her hair to perfection. Ana felt like a doll.

She had met Alice before. The petite pixie girl was very cheerful naturally and she also drowned Anastasia in a completely new wardrobe. After claiming her Volturi robes were complete rubbish and burning them afterward, Ana wasn't left with much besides a simple black dress. Alice had quickly stuck her into a completely new outfit, consisting of a simple dark green dress and black flats. Anastasia had refused to wear such a short dress, but Alice swore nobody would judge her. The dress wasn't even that short- it ended at her knees, but Ana would never wear such a thing back with the Volturi. Alec would've stared at her legs non-stop.

Edward and Bella were a package deal. Both never seemed to be found without the other. Anastasia swore they were sewed together at the hips. Bella was the silent type, never really voicing anything unless Edward spoke. She did seem more graceful now that she was a vampire, Anastasia thought. They were almost always found out somewhere in the woods or with their daughter. Edward was a lot like Bella as well; silent. Only occasionally he popped up with his comments but since he was never around, Ana didn't have time to make a clear judgment of him.

The Cullen's were a good batch. Anastasia considered herself lucky to be with them.

Anastasia groaned as she posed in another dress that Alice swore would look amazing on her. She slouched her body and pouted as Alice circled her.

"Stop slouching."

"I just don't see the purpose of this dress. It's tight and revealing. When will I ever need it?"

"Your first date with Jasper would be good," Alice piped. Anastasia glared at her but the pixie-like vampire didn't seem to care.

"I can see the future, Ana... And I believe this is the dress you will be wearing," she said cheekily. Anastasia scoffed and shook her head.

"Can I take this off now?" She asked and Alice huffed but let her go back into the closet so she can remove the cursed dress.

"You're overwhelming her, Alice," Bella said as she walked into Anastasia's room. She held Reneesme's hand, but as soon as the child saw Ana, thankfully now out of the tight contraption and back in her Volturi dress, she ran gleefully to her new favorite person before jumping into her arms. Anastasia caught her and smiled.

"Well, she can't wear those ridiculous robes all the time! She needs some color besides red and black, that's why I bought her a whole new colorful wardrobe," Alice commented as she began to rapidly search through the pile of clothes. Alice had surprised Ana when she returned home from town. She had about a dozen bags filled with clothes that Alice insisted the new vampire would look stunning in.

Bella sighed. She began to fold the clothes that littered the floor. She glanced towards the redhead and smiled when she saw her playing hand games with Reneesme. Her daughter had quickly grown attached to Anastasia, and everyone seemed to get along with her. Of course, Rosalie was the exception but it wasn't anything new.

A soft knock was heard at the door and Reneesme eagerly opened it. Jasper smiled down at her before lifting her off the ground.

"Hello darlin'. I'm going to have to steal Ana away from you, just for a second. We have a dinner reservation," Jasper said and Ana smiled brightly. Alice quickly handed her a pair of leggings and a loose shirt so she could change. Once changed, Anastasia bid farewell to the girls before Jasper grasped her hand and tugged her out of the house.

"Where the heck did you get reservations? We can't exactly eat actual food?" She said as they strolled out in the forest.

"I was tracking mountain lions all day. I know they're your favorite," Jasper said as he came to a stop. Ana was so pleased she nearly cracked his head off by how tight she hugged him. Jasper groaned.

"Careful, my love," he muttered and Anastasia quickly let him go but Jasper pulled her back in.

"That doesn't mean let me go completely."

Anastasia smiled shyly and slowly wrapped her arms around Jasper again.

"Did Edward tell you I preferred mountain lion over deer and bear?" She asked softly. Jasper slowly nodded his head and Ana chuckled.

"Sounds about right. Tell him to stay out of my head. He doesn't need to know what's going on in there."
