Aberdeen
Abigail parallel parked the car in front of what looked like a run down B&B.
The walls were made of pockmarked stone, and ivy trailed down the walls, hiding most of the windows from view. A green sign stood behind a garden bench, saying; VACANCIES, DOUBLE AND SINGLE
They had been driving for what felt like days, and after the whole standing on the back of the car incident, nothing had happened. (bar Caleb and Mina's arguing) Of course, they'd stopped for food when she realized she was starving, possibly because they hadn't eaten for a DAY AND A HALF.
She was still kinda pissed.
But Harriet got out of the car, her legs still feeling cramped. She leant back into and grabbed her staff and bag, and stepped back to let Caleb out.
The place was giving her the chills.
It wasn't how it looked, as such. It was more... A feeling. Hostility. She'd rather not stay here, but she had no idea what was going on, or where they were. Hell, she didn't know if they were still in England.
She hadn't being paying attention to the road signs.
Harriet saw a hand waving in front of her face, and blinked twice, leaning backwards.
"Hello? Earth to Harriet?"
Pushing Caleb's hand down, she gave him a dirty look. "Shut it, Cal."
He simply smirked and patted her head. She hated it when he did that.
"Caaaaaaaleb."
"Yes, honey?"
"Ew."
"I take offense."
"Good."
Caleb gave her a small shove, and she grinned, thoroughly pleased with herself.
"Plus, you're my twin, remember?"
He gasped, and leant back, raising a hand to his forehead. "Of course, how could I forget?"
"Shall we go, womb neighbor?"
He threw a hand around her shoulders, "Indeed we shall."
"Hey, gingers. Get yer' arses over here."
Harriet and Caleb turned to glare at Mina at the same time. And gave her the middle finger at the same time.
She stifled a grin as they walked to the door, also in unison.
"Fucking telepaths."
Kadriq half smiled from beside Katroina.
The interior was much more welcoming than the outside. Of course, it dependeds on what you define welcoming as. A cheerful fire burned in the grate, illuminating the wooden floor with a soft glow. There was a small desk on the other side of the wall, with a middle aged woman sitting behind it. Her hair was dyed a light blonde, and dark circles adorned her eyes. A pair of glasses were perched on her nose, making her look like a hawk, or an eagle. Something of the sort. Harmless.
Abigail walked back over to them, hands in pockets. "Okay. I've got us a few rooms, so go freshen up and we need to meet someone."
--
They met back in the foyer after three hours. Freshening up took a while when you were covered in blood. Harriet had changed into another t-shirt, and after a very short debate, had brought her brass knuckles. Abigail had said not to bring any weapons, but Harriet wasn't taking any chances.
"Come on." Katroina walked quickly out the door once they were all down. She seemed to have reverted to what she was like when Harriet had first met her. Abigail was trailing behind, at the back of the group. Something had happened between them.
But what?
Harriet slowed down to walk beside Abigail. Now that she had time to look at her, Abigail looked tired. Like the blonde woman. She just hid it well.
"Are you okay?" She asked, but immediately wanted to withdraw it. Had she gone too far?
"I'm fine." Abigail replied shortly, shoving her hands into her pockets.
"Sure."
A pause.
"You're not fine."
"No shit." Abigail said, looking away from her.
She had overstepped.
They walked to the car in silence, but Abigail gestured for Harriet to join her in the front. Katroina didn't say anything, simply climbing into the back, joined by the others.
She wasn't sure they should be out like this, willingly with the rebels, but she doubted the King's guard would be here.
Any idea what's going on?
None.
Helpful, aren't you?
Kadriq threw her a dirty look from the back seat, and she involuntarily grinned.
Fuck.
She was being an idiot.
Harriet glanced back again, and the Chosen One was looking decidedly uncomfortable in between Mina and Caleb. Who, obviously, we're arguing.
Not sorry.
Asshole.
She gasped. Language! Wouldn't want the press to find out about that, would we?
Ha ha. It was funny the first time.
It was? Aww, so sweet.
You're unbearable.
Why are you still talking to me?
I'm thinking to you. There's a difference.
Abigail stopped in front of a block of flats, and got out of the car. This time, Katroina stayed at the back.
She wanted to know what was happening.
They walked up a staircase with peeling paint and rotting banisters, and she felt a rush of magic. Looking back, she could see the others had felt it, too. Except Caleb and Katroina, of course. Magic users could feel how much magic was in a place, normals could not.
Usually, a high concentration of magic meant a powerful user, or a magic infused spot. Around her, Kadriq and Abigail, the magic levels rose by a lot. Because they had so much magic, they were more well, blind to changes in the magic levels. And if they could detect the change, then this person, whoever they were, was either very powerful or on the way to becoming so.
"Who is this person?"
Abigail kept walking, and for a second Harriet thought she wasn't going to answer.
"Someone you don't want to get on the bad side of."
A/N:
Again, sorry about this chapter. My writing hasn't been up to scratch lately, so I will try and improve. Also, if you see something I could've done better, COMMENT. Or PM me. I won't find it rude, promise! Anyway. That was a crap authors note. Sorry.
