The next day, John wakes up, gets dressed, has breakfast, and then heads out into town. He drives to the park. Once there, he gets out, locks the car, and goes over to the bench to take in nature and look around at couples being in love, families sitting together, and children running around on the playground equipment.

He looks over at the monkey bars and sees Eliza with whom he presumes is her daughter. He smiles and goes over to them.

John. Hello.

Eliza. Hey. This is a surprise. I brought Maddy here so she could run around and play. How have you been?

John. I've been great. I was just sitting over on the bench watching everyone enjoy their day and watching nature. How have you been?

Eliza. I've been great as well. Maddy wanted to come here and I figured we both needed a little fresh air so I agreed and here we are. She was born deaf like me, so we have a special bond.

John. Well, that's great that you have a bond with your daughter. One that not many people have with their children.

Eliza. I know. I feel lucky to have a bond with my daughter that is unlike any other.

Just then Maddy climbs down the steps of the monkey bars and goes over to John and Eliza.

Maddy. Hello. My name is Maddy. What is your name?

John. Hi Maddy. That is a lovely name. My name is John. I am your mother's friend.

Eliza. If it's alright with you, I would like to be your girlfriend.

John smiles. Of course, that is alright with me. I would love to be your boyfriend.

Eliza smiles and wraps her arms around John and kisses him sweetly. John reciprocates the kiss, sliding his arms around her waist. They come away a few seconds later and smile at each other. They are interrupted by Maddy tugging on John's pant leg. He crouches down to her level and smiles softly.

John. What is it?

Maddy. Can you be my daddy?

John looks shocked but smiles again.

John. I would love to be your daddy, but we have to ask your mommy.

Eliza smiles and crouches down on Maddy's other side.

Kate. Of course, you can be her dad.

Maddy smiles and wraps her arms around John and Eliza.

Maddy. I love you both so much. I have a mommy and daddy.

The rest of the day, the three of them spend their time at the park playing together and laughing. In the afternoon, they go to a nice restaurant near Times Square and have lunch. Maddy orders mac and cheese, while John and Eliza order spaghetti with sauce and clotted cream and blackberry preserve sandwiches and for dessert they all order a chocolate and raspberry cake to split between them.

After lunch and dessert, Eliza invites John to come over to her mansion. Her mansion is composed of a deep red and gold color scheme with white marble steps. The inside is composed of the same colors except for royal blue, and the chairs are dark wood and black velvet for the backrest.

The table is also dark wood with a deep red tablecloth and bordered with gold along the edge. The rooms of the mansion are composed of deep red and gold and the bedrooms have a red and gold bed with a royal blue coverlet trimmed with gold and black pillows that reside at the head of the bed. The washrooms have a porcelain toilet and bathtub with a showerhead as well as a porcelain sink and a mirror above the sink. The mirror is bordered with royal blue and gold. The master bedroom consists of a four-poster bed with deep red and black velvet covers and a black and red coverlet with royal blue trim and an ensuite washroom identical to the other washrooms, except the ensuite washroom has two sinks.

The three of them enter the mansion and John notices that everything except the royal blue is the same as his mansion. He sits down on the couch in the living room and watches Maddy play with her princess and unicorn figurines.

Eliza. She is a great kid. I love her so much. I am so happy that she wants you to be her father and that you so readily agreed. Do you understand that you have to put her first and do everything to make her happy? Including canceling important meetings or just including her in your meetings?

John. Of course. I want you and her to be happy and healthy. I would do anything to make sure you both are taken care of. And my colleagues would not mind having you or Maddy in my meetings.

Eliza. Alright. I love you both so much. She kisses him sweetly.

John kisses her sweetly back. And I love you both so much.

Eliza. What are you going to do with your mansion?

John. I was planning on staying there, but I would come over and visit every day. And when we get married, I will give the mansion to anyone who needs a place to stay. And whoever moves in at that time, will be given plenty of money to help with payments, and food, and drinks, and clothes, and anything else.

Eliza. That seems reasonable. I think that whoever decides to live there after we are married would greatly appreciate having so much space.

John. I would like to show you and Maddy my mansion one day. And the two of two can come and visit me at any time. And if you and Maddy wanted to sleep over, you certainly can.

Eliza. I would love to see your mansion one day.

John and Eliza turn their attention to Maddy and cuddle each other while their daughter plays with her toys. A few hours later, dinner is served and the family goes into the dining room to eat.

The dinner consists of duck, pheasant, quail eggs, ham and cheese sandwiches, blueberry preserve, and clotted cream cheese muffins, with strawberry ice cream and vanilla sponge cake with raspberry icing.

2 months later on a clear and sunny August morning, Eliza wakes up with John holding her gently in his arms. She smiles at the sight of her wonderful and handsome husband. Eliza gently strokes John's face and tangles her fingers in his hair. She gently kisses John on the lips and gets up to take a shower.

Eliza finishes her shower minutes later and dries off. She walks out of the washroom and goes into the closet. She changes into a simple plain blue t-shirt and shorts. She walks out of the closet and smiles as she sees John coming out of the shower with water rolling down his bare chest and a towel wrapped around his waist.

John. Hello love. Are you ready for today? It is a very special day. I hope you like the surprise.

Kate. I'm sure I will love your surprise very much.

John changes into a pair of jeans and a white t-shirt. He and Eliza get Maddy ready and they head out to the park. Maddy runs around and plays on the playground equipment. Moments later, John brings Maddy over to the bench.

John. Maddy, my beautiful girl. I have a very serious question for you. I have a question for mommy as well but I want to ask you first. I love mommy very much and I love you very much. I want you both to be in my life forever. I want to be your father in every sense of the word. And right now, I am not your father legally. So with that being said, will you agree to me marrying mommy?

Maddy smiles brightly. Yes. I want you to be my daddy in every sense of the word, including legally.

Maddy and John hug and John kisses her softly on her cheek. He then turns to Eliza and smiles. Eliza, my love. As I have said I love you and our daughter so much. I want to be with you and our daughter for the rest of my life. Will you marry me? He produces a little blue velvet box with a beautiful diamond ring. There is a large diamond in the middle and smaller crystals of red, blue, green, and black. The band upon which the diamond and crystals are placed is gold. The ring and diamond and crystals represent the bond and union of the two lovers and their countries.

Eliza smiles with tears of happiness down her cheeks. Yes. Of course, I will marry you. I love you so much.

John smiles and slides the ring onto her left ring finger. He kisses her sweetly on the lips. I love you so much and I love our daughter so much. I can't wait to finally be married to you. I can't wait to be your husband and a father in every sense of those two words.

Eliza. I feel the same. Would your father be willing to officiate our wedding?

John. He most certainly would be willing to officiate our wedding. For now, I think we should have lunch.

Eliza. Definitely.

The family head to a restaurant by the water and have a wonderful dinner to celebrate the engagement. After a few hours of lunch and dessert, the three of them head to a bridal shop and after many dresses, Eliza finds the perfect dress. John also finds the perfect outfit as well.

The family heads to Eliza's mansion to drop off her dress and then heads over to John's mansion to drop off his suit. They then go to the Statue of Liberty and ride the elevator to the top. They marvel at the magnificent view of New York. When it gets closer to nightfall, John drops Eliza and Maddy off at their mansion and after tucking in Maddy and kissing her cheek, he heads off to his mansion. He changes clothes, has dinner, and heads off to bed.
