Chapter 59
"She thinks she could tackle the world all by herself," I huffed, drowning another shot of the mix Marco made for me. As I exited The SAMS searching for Julie, I got a call from Marco that they needed my help.
Ignoring Julie when she needed me the most was unfair, but hiding Logan Johns from the eagle-eyed Luchellies was a must for me. Considering how everything turned out, that bastard was deeper into the black market than I thought. Letting him off the hook was completely not possible.
Marco tried every way to go to the place I sent him the address of, but the Luchellies had their men stationed on every single route, making it hard for us to take Logan overseas. Leaving us with the only option of hiding him inside the warehouse.
"She isn't the best CEO for nothing." The twins said in unison and I glared at them. "I adopted you, not her," I replied, pointing at me.
Adrick and Aiden helped me take the tracker out of that bastard Logan and so we found out that Luchellies were yet to track him, giving us a sigh of relief.
"Nevermind, how long are we keeping him in the basement? His wounds are still fresh." Aiden said, looking at the stairs that reached the basement. The door was an automatic bookshelf that we forgot to close.
"Just close the door before anyone finds it out." I shut him off and Marco closed the door.
"Do you think Luchellies are still in search of him? How important is he to them?" Marco asked, confused as our men informed us about the Luchellies closing off to us.
"We don't have anywhere else to go," I said. New York may be pretty big, but hiding someone injured and that too from Luchellies was impossible. This countryside warehouse was hard to trace, being an old building, and no one particularly existed in the neighborhood.
"You don't have classes today?" I asked the twins after a pause. They meddled in my business, making me skeptical about their safety. But because of the enemies covering the checkpoints, my men couldn't get past New York boundaries.
"It's almost evening. What do you expect us to do? Stay on the campus forever?" Adrick barked at me like a crazy dog. I still couldn't figure out why that young lad hated me so much.
"Why do I bother asking you anything, anyway? Just change his dressing and feed him something." I said, waving them off as arguing with them wouldn't lead me anywhere.
As they turned away from me, I suddenly stood and said in a hurry, "Don't untie him, no matter what." I had this weird feeling that Logan would go to every extent to save himself. He wouldn't have had only one chip attached to his body. There must be a loose end we couldn't catch up with and I wanted to talk to him but wasn't in the mood for today, especially.
"Okay," Aiden said and walked away from us towards the secret basement that was used as a storage channel in the olden days to hide extra materials to let the employees not throw more waste. It also surprised me when I found out about it and it felt as if we went back to the olden days of cave jails.
"Master, how long do you think we can hold him hostage?" Marco asked, putting his jacket on to go to patrol again.
"That bastard had caused too much trouble and have tortured many people. His end is near." I said, brushing my shirt and straightening out the creases.
"But-" Marco froze, and I stood rooted when I heard footsteps approaching us. Not sure where to go and how to contact the twins to stay inside, I turned around as I heard the footsteps closing on us. Marco hid the bottles in the garbage tin and lit a cigar to eliminate any smell.
"Who are you?" I heard a bold, manly voice and turned around. Having a casual look plastered on my face, I examined the number of people surrounding us with sniper rifles and guns hanging around them.
"I don't think I'm answerable to you," I said, clicking my tongue as I saw a man in his early thirties glaring at me. He must be the leader of the gang who barged in.
"Really?" He asked in a mocking tone and laughed at me. I raised my eyebrows at him and thought of an exit route from this.
"Tie them up and search the entire building." He commanded his subordinates, who within an instant marched toward me and Marco. Marco started fighting with them and covered me. In my peripheral vision, I saw my men entering slowly, but I shook them off. They shouldn't act hastily, as that would draw suspicion.
"This is private property and you don't have the right to barge in without permission," I said, getting frustrated.
"We don't need permission. Do you have any idea who we are? Just looking at us, people know our value and get away from our path." He said proudly, making me gag at his rhyme.
"You look like thieves to me," I said in a mocking tone. Marco pushed a guy who walked toward us and I studied their body language.
"Mister, you better fuck off before we beat the shit out of you." The boss said, holding a knife and pointing at me. I clicked my tongue and raised my hands, surrendering in front of them to think of an exit route. My mind still focused on the twins, who might come out at any minute.
"Do you have a search warrant? Are you a cop?" I heard the voice giving me goosebumps. The group parted ways, giving her a path toward me. And my eyes landed on my contractual wife standing boldly in front of the most dangerous group. I wanted to scream at her to run away from them, but it was too late.
"Who are you to question us?" The boss walked towards her, an amusing smile never fading from her face. I tightened my hold onto the table and looked at Marco, who was as surprised as I was.
"The owner of this building." She said as a matter of fact. Walking through the path paved by the Luchellies men, she looked at me and smiled. I didn't know what to interpret it but whispered, "Want to die? Do you have any idea who they are? Are you insane?"
"Should have made proper plans for me to not interrupt, then." She answered, waving me off.
"This is not your office nor are they your employees?" I sneered at her. She must not understand how dangerous they were.
"You should have had an idea who you married to before treating me like I'm easily breakable." She snapped at me.
"What a lovely sight for our eyes. We had not expected such a beautiful woman to welcome us in this barren warehouse." The leader mocked and Liara laughed as well. My anger surged through my veins as I grew frustrated.
"Boss, the boys are still unaware of them. They might come out anytime." Marco whispered into my ears slowly, but Liara heard it and I could see the anger in her eyes. She might want to burn me alive with the look she had.
"Aren't you Harry Luchellies men? I must ask him why he sent his men to interrupt my work." She said and clicked on some numbers on her phone. The gang started murmuring, and the leader had a surprised look on his face.
"Anthony, please connect me to Harry." She called Anthony and casually mentioned the heir of Luchellies as if they were childhood friends. "Harry sir didn't ask us to come here." Hurriedly, the leader interrupted her.
"Then why are you barging into other people's property without notice and how dare you to tie my husband like that?!" she shouted, and they scurried away a few feet back. I heard a wow from Marco and glared at him.
"I must inform him that his men are troubling me." She said and soon I heard footsteps. I just prayed that the boys would just be inside until this was over. Even if she had his contact, his men would have barged in if they found anything suspicious.
"Harry, this is completely unacceptable. Your men barged into my property without permission and caused a ruckus. I'm hurt." Whoa! What an act. Her voice was never like this before. She turned her voice down, talking so sweetly with him. How could someone change so much in a second? Unbelievable.
I held my hand below my chin and stared at my wife, acting cutely with some man over the phone. What an amazing relationship we had.
"Please sort it out. I have a meeting here and they have grouped around us as if we were the criminals and they came to catch us." She said, glaring at the men. The leader had a horrific expression as if he would piss his pants at any moment. The men behind him slowly walked out of the building. I shook my head at how she stopped them from barging in. I still had many questions but shut my mind for a second as my eyes were busy staring at my wife in formals and acting all cute. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
"Here, talk to him.'' She said, throwing her phone at the leader and he hastily caught it, letting his knife fall to the ground.
"Yes, boss. Yes. No... I mean.. Ok." He stuttered and bowed down at her.
"They tipped us off with false information. We didn't have the intention of hurting your husband." The leader said, bowing down to her and then to me. "Fuck off.'' I mouthed at him, and he hurriedly walked away with his gang within a minute.
"So," she started, and I looked everywhere but her. Anthony slowly closed the main door and walked toward us.
"That guy is giving us a headache. I hardly emmm ppg" I shut Aiden's mouth as he kept blabbering things without looking at the people present. One thing that I was glad that he came after they left.
I looked at Liara, but she was almost gone. Towards the hidden door. Marco wanted to stop her, but Anthony shielded her. Why do I always end up in a messed-up condition? I thought to myself. She'd have questions that I wouldn't want to answer. His being the prime criminal and me hiding him would give her the wrong impression.
"Liara, stop!" I said, but it was too late. She walked fast through the stairs towards the tunnel. Her heels clicked on the floor hard, letting me know the verge of her anger. I didn't even want to imagine what she'd do when she knew that I'd had Logan captivated for days and hid it from her.
"Liara, let's talk first." I held her hand, but she jerked it off without bothering to look at me. Adrick met us midway and his eyes would have popped out of their socket by how surprised he was. Effortlessly, she paved her path, wearing five-inch heels in the rough patches.
"Master, she must be furious," Marco told helplessly, following us.
"You think I don't know that?" I murmured and saw as she found her way towards the dimly lit room. The twins walked away from her, staying away from her line of sight. The tunnel was lit with lamps and the room was still stoney without proper facilities.
"Logan Johns." She said, Her face held an unidentifiable expression, as if it shocked her as well as disappointed, making me even skeptical about her thoughts. She discussed matters in front of me and I didn't tell her anything.
Logan looked surprised, but still had a tiny smile on his face. "I wished it should have been you to be with me first on my birthday." He said, wincing as his cracked lips pained.
