Chapter 27

Life has crazy plans for you whether you like it or not. I'd have never dreamed to cross paths with someone who could pull the trigger my way when all I did in my entire existence was the other way around.

You always encounter something unanticipated. Today I just confronted one of my unexpected encounters. I never even thought that night would be so life changing. If I'd have known, I would have moved past Julie getting dragged. Or rather, not follow her towards her club.

Either way, now I'm stuck in a hellhole. One side, I have to live a lie for three hundred and sixty-five days and the other one is to save Julie. I can't believe I put myself into such a chaos when I already have so much on my plate right now.

"Master, we tracked down the call you received earlier. Julie is in Florida but couldn't follow the trail because the signals got tampered." I sucked in a deep breath. Florida is somewhere that I'd highly consider avoiding. "Master, Marios has been on full alert after you disappeared. I'd suggest you stay out of their way if you don't prefer to be spotted." I heard Drake's clear yet steady voice from the other side.

"I have to fly to Florida. Thanks, Drake." I exhaled. The tension in my tiny room suffocated me as Charles kept peering at me now and then.

"Master, why are you so unsettled? What is the matter?" Charles inquired, passing me a glass of I don't recognize what. I swigged it down, evaluating the cons and pros of what to reveal and what not to.

"When I was about to enter SAMS International, I received a call from an unfamiliar number. You asked me what it is, and I shrugged it off, but that was Julie calling for help. I didn't realize she was in real trouble, instead, I thought she needed my attention." I smoothed my palms on my face. My sanity not at bay.

"So, you had Drake track that call." He concluded. After that nerve wrenching meeting in SAMS, Charles dragged me to my apartment. I was in no frame of mind to debate as I needed some refreshment after that intense moment with a hothead. He never questioned me about what transpired inside, and I didn't bother telling him anything.

"What did he discover?" He asked. A plate full of Cashews and some other dry fruits arranged perfectly, along with a few variations of liquors. I never noticed my tiny kitchen had these stuff.

"I bought them on my way to SAMS." Charles interrupted my train of thoughts.

I nodded and not prying further, I continued, "He said that call was from Florida, but now he lost the trail." My eyes staring at the street through my bedroom window, swirling a mouth full of an exquisite mix he served me.

"You realize that you have men everywhere. You just have to order them. Even if she is in trouble, they are more than able to rescue her." He proposed. I don't consider that's all right. I felt responsible for leaving her alone that day.

"She is in Florida, Charles! Marios are out for my blood." I groaned when I realized he didn't even have any idea what I'm talking about.

"Marios and I had a split," I declared. He had an amused grin, and I knew what he was going to spout next.

"Ah!! I get it! You were the reason for Sandeu Mario, the head of Mario Empire's divorce because he found out his wife cheated on him with you! And yeah, the one and only who somehow got laid with their daughter-in-law too!" He clapped his hands, relishing the situation.

"That's not it!" I chuckled because I discovered about it later that they were related.

"What else did you do?" He moved closer, undoubtedly savoring the condition.

"I killed his son," I announced, shrugging as if it's no big deal. It was because they deceived me and I don't hold it well when someone betrays me.

"You did what! Why?!" Charles exclaimed, and I found his expression funny.

"He wanted to dethrone me. I discovered it out later and spotted him having a transaction against our contract with The Luchellies." I admitted, reliving what transpired that day.

"Oh!" He held his tongue and didn't pry any further because he knows how I trade with matters, and I don't think I'd ever regret what I did.

"Okay, you don't bother. I will release her." He spoke, but I don't realize why I didn't feel like I should assign someone to do my task.

"I owe her. I have to save her." I mumbled more to myself, but he heard it. His face was void of any emotions, but I could tell that he was loving my condition.

"What did you do now?"

"Samira intentionally drugged me the day before the kidnapping and used Julie to keep me busy." I tried collecting the memories that were still vague.

"And let me guess, you left her alone and came to " Rescue Liara" mission." He air quoted it. I swear he isn't helping it. I had the urge to punch him on his smug face.

"Whatever you call it." I dismissed him by waving my hand and swallowed down the whole glass.

"Uh-huh, and you feel guilty for leaving her like that to protect another woman." His amused voice penetrated my ears.

"You've got a death wish today," I snarled, my eyes almost closing.

"Since when do you do the cuddling stuff after sex, master?" He will not surrender that easily.

"Shut up, Charles," I said through gritted teeth. My phone beeped, but my hands were like jelly. Whole situation messed my brain pretty badly.

"Drake's men hacked the footage of the area where the phone signal ended. He sent the video to you." He said shoving the phone directly in front of my face.

From my blurry vision, I noticed a brunette struggling to pull out of the grasp of two enormous men. She suddenly held something near her ear but shortly after, was manhandled by those bulldog-like humans and was being pulled inside the van. I couldn't see the number plate, so I asked Charles to look into it.

"Okay, so here are the details. It lists the black van under the name of Brain Sizzler. A resident of the US. Do you wish to lead the way?" He inquired. I gently opened my eyes and looked at his figure hunching down a little, and a small tiny smirk on his face.

"What are you grinning at?" I demanded. My mind is getting a little better. I realized he was brewing something ludicrous in his insane mind.

"You like Julie." He spoke, not a question but a comment.

"I do."

"What about Liara?"

"What about her?"

"Don't you like her as well?"

"That's different."

"What way?"

"That's none of your business."

"You can never lie to me, you know that, right?."

"What are you hinting?"

"I never asked you what transpired inside the building. But I saw you smiling when you came out." He didn't look at me. Turning his head away from me, he stared at the scenery out of my house.

"We are married now. A contractual marriage." I blurted out. It was more to me than just informing him. I felt a peculiar vibration inside my tummy when I imagined Liara as my spouse. We are not actually couples, but we had to act like one.

"Okay, even if I am young, I still have a heart that can stop when I am overwhelmed. Oh my God, my heart is beating so quick and loudly! I might die, Master. Please tell me you are joking." He studied me with what they signal "a puppy dog eyes," pleading me to take back what I just stated.

"I'm telling you what's the truth, Charles. Believe it or not. I'm married to Liara D'Waner." I pointed out and as shortly as words escaped my mouth, his face fell. He was comprehending whether I'm still joking. When I scowled at him, he swallowed down his saliva and looked like a deer caught in a headlight.

"You are what now?!" Damn, he will damage my ears.

"Married." I repeated, amused at his expression. I was enjoying his reaction. He marched across the room and was pulling his hair.

"You realize you are endangering her life by doing that, don't you? Hell, her entire family will endure because of one stupid decision!" His voice lashed with rage and bitterness. I raised my eyebrows at him. Why do I have a thought that he likes Liara?

"She knew about my past, and she was the one to come up with that idea. So stop barking like a dog at me and do what you need to." I scowled at him, frustrated with his behavior.

"She knows about us?" This guy is really into deep shit today.

"Drake, I am leaving for Florida. Alone. Don't send your watchdogs behind." I Speed dialed Drake. Without even glancing at Charles, I headed to Florida. I have to protect her. She needs me. For the first time after the first encounter with Liara, I did not think about an ocean blue-eyed woman, rather a brunette with brown eyes.

*********

"Master, we are almost here," Charles announced. He wasn't his usual self now. He was acting weird. Something changed in him after knowing about my marriage. Though I didn't bother to tell him the entire truth, the mere mention of Liara's name stirred something in our relationship and that disturbed me.

He followed me to Florida, saying, "I'm responsible to take care of civilians of The US. And that's what I'm going to do."

I peeked out of my car's window. Yeah, my guys were waiting at the airport when they learned I was coming.

"Master, we found an old building where people were wandering. It is a vacant building ready for demolition." One of my guys informed me when we discovered an old rusty building that stood like hanging on a thread. I got out of my car and searched for any movements but found none.

"That's because we are in the building's backyard. We caught a few cars taking off from the main gate so we had to choose a different route." Charles answered my unasked question. He remained beside me and studied the building.

I felt like I was breathing again. These things keep me alive. The euphoria that I felt inside my body when I have to battle against something is marvelous.

"You feel alive again, don't you?"

"Why do you keep poking me today?"

"Let Liara go if you want to keep her safe." Here he comes. I knew he had something for her. My blood boiled and hands itched to hit his face hard.

I drew a sharp breath and spoke, "Concentrate on the task you have first." Without bothering to look at him, I asked my folk to stand still.

"I am going alone inside. If I don't show up within fifteen minutes, then you guys come inside." I watched five of my guys, all in black, standing still, always behind my back.

"I'm coming with you."

"Are you forgetting who is the Boss here? Do I need to remind you of that repeatedly?" I grabbed Charles's shirt's collar and looked him in the eyes as if giving a warning. He lowered his eyes and settled back.

Quickly, I took off inside the building.

The backdoor was wide and shortly a masked man emerged out of the building holding guns around his shoulder. I had nowhere to hide as the building stood in a vacant area. It took little time when his eyes fell on me. I ran towards him to tackle him down and stop him from informing others about my intrusion. But to my disappointment, he held a whistle and blew it in a nanosecond.

I tackled him down and broke his neck which then stopped the whistle but the information was sent already and I could do nothing about it. I heard footsteps approaching and scanned at the building from the backdoor and found it clear. That's creepy, I thought, and took tentative steps inside.

The corridor and the rooms were so rusty. The whole construction was a mess, and not to mention the iron smell. It reeked so bad. The pillars were rusty and the bricks half-broken everywhere. "I'm surprised how this two-storied building is still holding up." I moved past the bizarre walls like a wind. I still heard footsteps but found none approaching yet.

I searched the ground floor but couldn't spot anything. I saw separate iron stairs reaching to the topmost part of this rusty building through the second floor.

The stairs creaked when I stepped foot on the first stair. I peeked at the hallway confirming if someone heard it but found nobody. Slowly I climbed up to the edge of the rusty stairs but to my surprise the entire ground floor was vacant but the first floor was full of green dressed fellows who stood unmoving.

"Weird" I muttered. Tiptoeing, I landed face-first on the ground when a sudden punch hit my face out of nowhere. "Damn you, man! Why the hell you'd hit on my face?" I cursed whoever hit me from behind, but alas, that ended up with another blow on my back.

Taking a deep breath, I rose on my legs and swung a punch on the person in a green hoodie on his chin. He didn't budge. I then studied my surroundings and met with a bunch of green hooded men surrounded me, making me feel like I'm standing in the middle of an orchid. I could nowhere see Julie. Worriedness took over my expression and anger soared out of my body. My blood boiled remembering how they manhandled her.

Soon, one after the other, the green hooded men kept on charging my way. I slammed them one by one, hard on the ground. Some of them came in a group, I knocked hard on their face making them miserable and kissed the floor.

I didn't know when this would end as the number was not reducing, I could see through my peripheral vision as more and more green men entered the floor. "I have to find her as quickly as possible". I considered and reached for my phone and called Charles, letting him know that I need him here while I still held neck of a green hooded guy.

Shortly after, the speed slackened as my men entered the floor and enveloped me, knocking the green guys. They paved the way away from the commotion and I drifted past them to find Julie.

A few chambers were horizontally available in the corridor, away from the ruckus. I didn't know if I had time to check on all the chambers, but went on and kept looking inside. All the cubicles were empty. The rusty locks didn't restrict my entry. Soon, I was at the end of the corridor and spotted nothing. Worried, I started panicking. But to my surprise, I heard a muffled cry. An eerie wail, as if someone is weeping out loud inside a channel or something.

I concentrated hard and suddenly raced towards the sound. I got goosebumps when I picked the sound repeatedly. The agony in the cry was so apparent. I tiptoed when I noticed two masked guys standing out of a cabin like an underpass. I sank my hands on my t-shirt and held my gun, placed a silencer on the top and fired it directly on the temple of the masked man, the same with the other. Within a second, they both collapsed on the floor.

I analyzed the surroundings making sure no one overheard it and when I saw no one; I headed towards the underpass. A giant iron door with an enormous lock hanging on the other side.

"Crap!" I cursed under my breath when I came face to face with a monstrous iron door, a lock jingling in the centre.

How the hell could this crappy building hold such a heavy corridor?
