Boromir's Stand

"Right, sorry," Percy sighed and hurriedly got up before she could hit him again.
"Don't follow him back to the river though," she said as he dusted off his pants. "Aragorn might need your help."
"But Aragorn's right over...you know what? Never mind," Percy shook his head and started off, discreetly following the ring bearer. "Why do I bother questioning her? She'll whack me again anyways or throw something at me..." His muttering trailed off as he walked away, ducking as a shoe found it's way to his head, flying through the air. "See? 'Watch out for that one,' Dad said. 'She's got a heck of an arm.' Do I want to know how he knew that? No, thank you very much. Might find out the hard way...."
"Percy!"
"Over here! These ugly things are getting in my face and I don't like it!"
"Don't do anything you'll regret!" Annabeth called as she grew closer to the clanging where he was and shot the orc he was fighting in the head. "Frodo?" Annabeth asked, looking around. She didn't see him but that didn't mean anything. Hobbits are so small. She saw Aragorn fighting a couple of orcs though.
"He has gone," Aragorn answered.
"Got clear just before the uglies showed up," Percy finished with a grunt as the orc's blade connected with his with more force than he expected.
"Good," Annabeth sighed in relief as she shot another orc between the eyes.
"Find the halfling! Find the halfling!"
That was the orc in charge of course.
"Find the halfling!" Percy mocked. "Oh, shut up you big pile of rotten flesh!"
Annabeth hid a laugh by shooting at the orc in front of her.
Aragorn leapt off the structure he'd ended up on just in time to catch a few of the monsters. By the time he got up, Legolas and Gimli showed up.
"Aragorn, go!" Legolas cried, joining Annabeth in shooting the orcs down.
"Percy, take care of this, I want to see it!" Annabeth shouted before taking off after Aragorn.
"No way! I'm coming with you! There'll be plenty of uglies where you're going, I'm sure."
"Fine," she bit out, reaching back and stabbing an 'ugly' in the eye with an arrow.
They ran, Legolas and Gimli following, cutting down as many orcs as they came across until they heard a horn.
"The Horn of Gondor," Legolas said and took off, leaving them behind.
"C'mon, Perce, we gotta go!" Annabeth shouted, putting on another burst of speed.
"Can't we save him?" Percy said. "You know I've been working on that water travel thing. Maybe I can-"
"Percy, we're not here to change things," she cut him off.
"We haven't done that just by being here?" Percy said incredulously.
"Surprisingly, no," she answered.
"So trying to water travel there won't change much, will it?" Percy pushed.
Annabeth sighed. "You're gonna try anyways, aren't you?"
"You know it."
"Fine."
Fortunately, the trip wasn't too bad and they made it just as the first bolt flew at the soldier of Gondor.
Merry and Pippin stopped throwing their rocks in shock, too stunned to do anything. The second bolt flew, hitting him in the stomach. It took him a second but he got back up and sliced the orcs closest to him down.
Annabeth followed Percy in running after the orcs. Percy landed them a few hundred feet behind the orcs so they were not close enough to help. She aimed her own bow at the orc firing at Boromir. Her arrow finding it's mark in a non lethal area on his arm because he moved, shooting his third arrow at the falling soldier.
Now the hobbits were angry. They dropped the rocks they were throwing, drew their short swords and charged. Only to be picked up like sacks of flour and carried away. The pack of orcs ran off, leaving a dying Boromir behind, gasping for breath on his knees but refusing to lie down.
The orc shooting him stopped before him, obviously not satisfied with Boromir's show of strength.
"No!" Percy yelled. "Dishonor! You don't shoot a man point-blank who is already down! He might die of his wounds anyways you pile of Minotaur droppings! Dishonor!"
"They don't care about honor, Percy," Annabeth drew back her bow and aimed. She fired.
Her arrow hitting the orc in the back of his head, causing him to fall to the earth.
"Serves him right," Percy spat as he came up to the fallen orc. "Of all the-not even the monsters back home do that!"
"Percy," Annabeth admonished as she dropped next to Boromir, Aragorn appearing in the clearing at the same time. He was immediately at Boromir's side.
"You're right, Gaea might do that actually but even Kronos had enough decency in him left to-"
"Percy!"
"What?"
"I'm going to pull out the arrows," she started. "Push on the wound and get your water ready. I want you to try to heal him."
"But I thought you said-"
"DO IT!"
That stopped any talking on Percy's part. He followed Annabeth's directions and Aragorn shook himself enough to help.
"Boromir," Aragorn whispered.
"They took the little ones!" Boromir cried as he continued gasping for breath.
"Be still," Aragorn tried calming the hero.
"Frodo," Boromir groan. "Where is Frodo?"
"I let Frodo go," Aragorn answered.
Annabeth did her best to appear as if she weren't paying any attention. This was on of her favorite parts but it was also a private one for the two of them.
"Then you did what I could not," Boromir said with some shame. "I tried to take the ring from him."
"The ring is beyond our reach now," Aragorn assured him.
"Forgive me. I did not see. I have failed you all."
"No, Boromir, you fought bravely. You kept your honor," Aragorn protested.
"It is over," Boromir said, despair lacing his voice. "The world of men will fall and all will come to darkness and my city to ruin."
"I do not know what strength is in my blood but I swear to you; I will not let the white city fall. Nor our people fail," Aragorn said firmly.
"Our people," Boromir whispered with a smile as Aragorn reached over to put his sword in his hand. "Our people." Boromir was still struggling for breath but not as much now, Percy's water doing it's job. "I would have followed you my brother. My captain...my king."
"Sorry to disappoint, Boromir," Percy said, realizing what Boromir thought was happening. "But that peaceful feeling your feeling is just my water doing it's healing magic."
